  1. No solution for this, unfortunately. Criminals rarely follow the legal process for obtaining a weapon, but hey they’re people too, right? A cop must be vigilant, but not afraid. A scared cop won’t last in most towns. Cops don’t often shoot the unarmed out of fear itself. These things usually happen when the subject refuses to follow simple instructions and moves suddenly or doesn’t keep their hands up and visible. They don’t know that the individual is unarmed, but if they act as if they have a weapon the officer must respond to protect themselves or others. Even unarmed criminals have a problem taking an order from a cop. Of course, none of this seems relevant to the Floyd case. It looks to me like a rogue cop doing exactly what training protocol says not to do. Another stands by and does nothing about it. Charges will be filed here, what they will be depends on the cause of death among other things.
  2. Criminals with guns are what make cops jobs dangerous.
  3. No, it doesn’t. A civilian is not an officer of the law. That’s how it is, and how it has to be. A case will be built against this officer, and I believe he will serve jail time. You don’t dismantle the required protections due to the actions of a rogue officer. A cops job is difficult enough as it is. The looters and rioters are just looking for an excuse for their lawlessness.
  4. There is a separate process for officers acting under the color of law, yes. An investigation will ensue, and it appears certain to me the officer(s) will be charged. They must proceed carefully to put him behind bars. Don’t pretend that you, a civilian ( I assume) would get the same consideration here. If you don’t understand why there is a difference, I’m not sure where to begin but you need to look into it. As for the officer, he did not appear to act within the scope of his training, imo.I’m confident that the evidence supports this and he will be convicted. That process needs to play out, though.
  5. Most. The local news outlets are all pushing the results of this poll, as they know polls are used to shape public opinion. One local tv station also mentioned that “ only self identified conservatives” thought that waiting too long to reopen was a bigger problem. As if they don’t matter and are obviously being unreasonable. I’m not shocked at the results of the poll because most of those who are for staying closed down are all too willing to sacrifice their freedoms in exchange for a government check. The story also stated that a large percentage of those who said too early had lost a job. The correlation is pretty strong. They don’t care about their job, working, or if jobs return. The government will bail them out !
  6. I agree, Skin-erd. While I’ve never been a religious person, that’s not really germane to the issue here. Some comments in this thread seem judgmental about religion and/ or those who wish to attend houses of worship. This is about constitutional rights, and I fully support the folks who want to attend. They are being unfairly oppressed by tyrannical Governors, no two ways about it.
  7. True. Fans will be clamoring for Moss to get more touches weeks before McD actually makes it happen.
  8. Don’t like this at all. The media will push this as a great idea. Some Gov’s will require these. Restaurants/ bars should do distancing and disinfect often . That’s it. Went to Ohio this weekend , they allowed patio dining. Servers wore masks, but not customers. It was great. No one needs to dine in at a restaurant or go to a bar. I’d sign a waiver before I’d wear that thing.
  9. This^^We’ve known this for quite awhile with Coronavirus. There are so many asymptomatic cases, and so few people actually seeking tests now that the “ official” case count is a fraction of actual cases. We also know the death count has been vastly overcounted due to hospital reimbursements and government directives. I wonder how many times Tibs has gotten tested lol
  10. That guy is nuts...Cuomo seems to mimic California though, and that’s not comforting.
  11. Well, that’s why they’re starting with no fans. No jobs are unimportant, but they’ll come back when we go back to fans in the seats, concerts etc. Hopefully very soon. Hiding inside thinking we won’t get Coronavirus isn’t doing anyone much good. The best thing might be having lots of under age 40 folks get this thing and reach herd immunity faster.
  12. Do you actually think there will be a point in the not too distant future where there is no risk ? Everyone will have to accept the fact that the country, and the economy cannot stay closed down. That’s the real world.
  13. I agree with your statements and questions here. As for Cuomo , If he has said that , it will be one of the few things I’ve agreed with him on thus far. Perhaps he has recently come around to admitting that reality. While I’m sure anyone would want it to be untrue, it’s just the fact we must deal with.
  14. And most people find masks uncomfortable , so they inevitably touch their faces multiple times and touch the mask while adjusting it. Amazing that gloves were immediately dismissed as ineffective by the media after their flaws were pointed out. However, Fauci’s original take on masks was similar to the issues brought up with gloves,( right down to providing a “ false sense of security) and he said they weren’t needed.
  15. Not really. What is needed is to trust no one...assume everyone near you could be carrying Covid 19 and a. Wash your hands frequently b. Maintain your distance from others c. Don’t touch your face d. If you must cough, sneeze and can’t control it, turn away and do so into your elbow. That will help more than platitudes about “ togetherness” etc etc.
  16. Yes, she does. If (half)Whitmer wasn’t a woman, she’d be described as having a very punchable face lol. She is the very definition of a liberal tyrant. Just a power mad, nanny state loving dictator.
  17. Without all the details/ minutiae this is the conclusion that Fauci had when initially asked about the wearing of masks. We are not a mask / facecover wearing culture, so in the recesses of our mind masks have a sinister and mysterious connotation. They keep us at a heightened sense of risk/ fear and that is really the intention.
  18. I agree with this. Some may say your words are cold and unfeeling, but that’s really just semantics. This ( and wars) are harsh realities that involve difficult, even brutal decisions. Not for the faint of heart, but they must be made. As a country, there is a sizable faction doing everything they can to make the wrong one.
  19. What a mess. Hospitals have been incentivized to classify anything as Covid 19. Yet those very statistics are what Governors are using to keep people locked down and out of work.
  20. Maybe it will take Politician’s fear of the insurrection act to make them lift the extreme and burdensome lockdown measures .
  21. This shows just how pointless these lockdowns are now. Many recent positives are reporting they’ve been staying at home. Yes, there are still going to be many , many more cases of Coronavirus out there. Why can’t they admit this ? It’s not a failing of government, just a fact. Let businesses operate, with guidelines and continue to test. Quarantine positive cases and trace contacts. Clean, disinfect , continue on with business. Continuing these stupid lockdowns as if there will be some magical date where the virus is no more is not only disheartening, it’s completely illogical. We have to learn to deal with this and get people back to work. It’s not going away.
  22. Who are these experts and how recent is their data ? Often , there are very good reasons not to believe “ them” because what they say isn’t accurate. Believe who you want, but there is no substitute for personal experience. Perhaps there is someplace somewhere USA that has a problem, but testing has been ramped up for awhile. It’s good advise to always take everything with the required grain of salt. Even “ experts” don’t agree on everything and this isn’t exactly a theory anyway. It’s a practical matter: can you get a test or not? Yep, sorry not doing that. I’ll take my chances vs that contraption.
  23. Just telling my personal experience. Don’t believe everything you see in the media. I doubt I’m the only one. A relative went to a mobile drive thru testing site in the south towns last week and had a similar experience. They are testing anyone ( no symptoms required) for the last several weeks and it takes just a few brief questions by phone to make an appointment. Results are fast, even more than I expected. Sometimes you just really have to go out and see for yourself. I’d recommend getting tested to anyone, and it will help contribute to counties amassing accurate data.
