The foundation under Dr. Fauci is starting to crack...
oldmanfan replied to JaCrispy's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Not really. The CDC is opening things up but still advising masks in crowded interior spaces and such. Fauci is saying back to life as we knew it with no restrictions at all. I would say Fauci is by nature very cautious; that comes with being an infectious disease specialist. -
No. 60 out of 60.

I wouldn’t call myself rich but I do OK and I pay my share. I just want to be sure the Jeff Bezos’s of the country do the same. The debate everyone is afraid to have is what the actual role of the federal government should be. Once you know that you then set the tax rates to pay for it. In the 50’s government needed to do a lot post-war and rates were high to reflect that. This crap with wanting a lot of government spending but low taxes is ridiculous; it makes no mathematical sense. Sign me up for much more limited government spending. And in your model if we taxed net profits they’d finagle their books to show no profit. Don’t be so naive.

Yes. I’d rather have a flat tax of say 5-10% that is actually collected from people and businesses than the current rates, which we all know rich folks and corporations never pay. When Amazon pays nothing in federal tax it’s absurd. Warren Buffett agrees; I think his opinion is more meaningful. I believe the trillions of dollars in debt we have is a threat to our country; we need to pay it down. Big corporations and such would probably save money compared to the slew of accountants they pay right now to avoid paying.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
oldmanfan replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
First I am not a virologist but I have more knowledge than your average guy. Here are my thoughts: 1. It depends on the virus. RNA viruses are much more prone to mutation than DNA viruses. In general the more mutations the less infectious but there are exceptions. I believe one of the reasons it was never possible to get an effective vaccine against HIV was because it mutates so rapidly. The Covid hasn’t had many mutations and the ones thus far seem to make the virus more infectious. 2. In general death and sickness with vaccines are pretty minimal if that. The CDC has a document on that, History of Vaccine Complications, on that topic. The idea that the Covid vaccines will somehow cause long term disease, especially the RNA ones, is to me based on politics and hysteria more than science. -

Do you want to have an honest dialog or are you going to lie again about what I post? If you want to have an honest dialog I can explain drugs and receptors and such. If it’s going to bo more dishonesty then I’m not interested. Let me know. -
Not a fan of the spending in general. OK with infrastructure but needs to be pared back. Needed to help bail out with the pandemic but that should have been targeted to small business and unemployed people. I do think it’s time big corporations paid taxes but would prefer just a flat tax of around 10-15% with all loopholes removed. When is either party going to actually tackle the deficit?

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

You just told a deliberate lie. I have opined on that, as did Fauci and others with respect to the protests and such last year. To reiterate, no one recommended such, but as I have pointed out the pictures I saw many were masked and they were outside which decreased possibility of spread (and as now know really decreases rate of infection). I specifically stated that from an infection standpoint is was not advisable but that they had a right to protest guaranteed under the Constitution. I am sure people got Covid from those protests; how many it is likely impossible to know. Deliberately lying about what people have posted is really sad. I would post about your reply with respect to the mRNA about not having side effects, about how most drugs out there like a thalidomide (which was way before the advent of more modern molecular biology techniques and such) and other medications act on membrane receptors whereas the vaccine does not. I could add a lot more. But since we now understand you will just lie about what I post I see no need. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

I would bet the CDC recommends masking is not required for younger kids as the data indicates while they can harbor the virus, it is rare for them to contract disease or transmit. States and local communities will set standards based on positive testing rates, percentage of vaccinations and such. Which is why people should get vaccinated. And when everyone is walking around without masks again (as should happen in the next few months) you will find yet more to complain about. -

There is nothing in there that should affect systems long term. You are not doing anything to the genome at all. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

The issue with the non-vaccinated is they give the virus a host in which to propagate. Not only can that potentially kill the host, but it continues to give the virus time to mutate and survive. The mRNA does not stay in the body for long as I understand it. Once it is read by cells to allow them to make the viral protein it is rapidly degraded. The rest of the formulation is just salts and some lipid to allow the mRNA to stay soluble. It’s very difficult to see anything in there that would have a long term issue. -

Got me! Seriously go get the shot- be part of the solution. Masks really don’t and never did impinge on your freedom. And no government at vs any level is making you be vaccinated. You absolutely should get vaccinated but no one is going to haul you out of your house and force you to do so. The government is not going to do cards for that. Businesses may require one for customers or employees as is their right. They have freedom to do so. And you have freedom to get one or not, support businesses or not as you want. And so on. -

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
oldmanfan replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The vaccination status to strangers matters because we are all incubators of the virus. Viruses need hosts to propagate. In vaccinated people the vaccine is very effective at blocking entry of virus into your cells. Thus the more people vaccinated, the less availability of hosts for the virus, and the less virus to be spread. The vaccines as I understand them create antibodies against the spike protein responsible for viral entry into cells. -

And some will. Some businesses like health care organizations may require vaccination as they do for the flu. And you can either comply or find another job. The more vaccinations the less the reason for masks. If we had 100% vaccinations and a completely open society you’d still complain. -
