  1. Realistic depends on public vs. private school. I think state universities in general are OK; I got both my degrees from UB and got a solid education. And the work force and the research you get from that investment as a state seems reasonable. For a student’s cost, I would say maybe 5 k a year for a state school , maybe 20-25 k max for private. Those are off the top my head and I’d need to see detailed budgets. In general at a research university I’d have research professors who have to generate their income through grants and teaching faculty that are funded by the school. And probably have fewer faculty overall.
  2. I agree to a point. Online classes would be very helpful, but not as practical depending on the course. I teach physiology, and the lecture component of such a class is doable on line. The lab is not; labs by their inherent nature are best done by getting your hands in there and doing things. My younger daughter is a freshman right now, and is going into music therapy. While some of her classes work well on line, it is very difficult to do her voice and instrument classes in that venue. Those really require being in person. I have taught at college and medical/graduate schools for decades now, and would emphasize the social aspects of the learning environment. I think that, for some kids, the social aspects of college may be as important as the academics. College gives a kid the opportunity, and the challenge, of developing their own sense of values, their own sense of work ethic, the ability to work together with others and to develop socially so they can function when they get into the working world. In one of the classes I teach, I challenge my students to develop the ability to think, not just regurgitate information which is unfortunately what many are taught through high school and earlier college years. I also demand accountability, which in the era of helicopter parents is sadly lacking in many students. The affordability is a real issue. I am an advocate for just putting a realistic number on it and going forward. Right now a private college is around 30-60 k a year, and half of that gets cut immediately as a "scholarship" if you have halfway decent grades. Just make it realistic.
  3. To the original question, of course Chauvin should go to prison. He killed the man.
  4. Same with my family. And we read three newspapers a day, Courier Express, Buffalo Evening News, and Tonawanda News.
  5. The weakest guy is the one who lifts the least amount of weight. In terms of their play, probably LG. Boettger is average at best and with Ford hurt we don't know who takes that spot.
  6. Birx should have stood up at that very moment and told the people how stupid an idea it was.
  7. Somewhat. Maturity hopefully allows one to see through his or her prejudices and acknowledge that, in the political spectrum, neither side is ever 100% right or wrong.
  8. Not always wrong, but extreme views on either side never take into account their hypocrisy.
  9. Don’t know. I would hope someone rational.
  10. 2+2still equals 5 to you. Just yesterday the Nevada Sec State confirmed no fraud. As did the Georgia Sec Stare. And so on. You have nothing to support your contention.
  11. As an Independent I have some things I lean more one way than the other. This one I lean way right. No way I allow a mad man with a nuclear weapon to exist. Take the nukes out now before he uses them.
  12. I honestly do. We are wasting time with this irrational nut, and if he dies his sister is just as bad if not worse. They're going to fire a nuclear missile at us or our allies, it's just a question of when it happens. I'd rather use the most powerful military in history in a proactive vs. retroactive manner.
  13. I agree with your comments. They're being trained, but things have to change. I think any clear eyed view of the situations in our cities would tell you that. They have to change to help the citizens and the police. Training needs to change to help manage conflict.
  14. Don’t be disingenuous. You know he’s not talking about them taking math classes. As a general rule for any job more training is better than less.
  15. The situation in Columbus was just awful. I feel for the victim’s family but also for that policeman. What a situation to walk up on. I don’t see where he had other options.
  16. You guys like to pretend that there’s a difference between liberals protesting or boycotting when a corporation doesn’t do what they want vs. conservatives. You create a false distinction between a group deciding what it wants and pressuring a corporation to comply vs. a corporation setting a policy and then a group pressuring them to comply to their wishes. In the end it is the same thing: people threatening a boycott to achieve their political wish. Trying to create some false difference is amusing, almost as amusing as McConnell telling corporations to stay out of politics given his career. As for the protests and such, I have said riots should not be condoned regardless of who does it. You want to pretend O didn’t say that fine. Just like you can pretend that some of them did not involve the Boogaloo boys. The value of being an Independent like me is that it’s easy to see the silliness of positions taken by those on the extreme of either side of the political spectrum.
  17. Negotiation requires someone rational on the other side of the table. This murdering thug of a dictator is irrational and thus negotiations will never accomplish anything. The only way to deal with him is by force; send in the troops and wipe him out.
  18. I immediately denounced the riots. Protests are fine, looting and such is not. And as bad as they were they do not compare to trying to overthrow our government. And we had our President watching it on TV. Home Depot will do what they do. I have stated I don’t like the tactic but that both political sides pressure corporations and have given examples. Why is it bad when liberals do it but not conservatives?
  19. I stand corrected
  20. One more time. They are both political plays. End of story.
  21. The problem with this entire thread is that people keep using an old classification for a newer defensive scheme. McD’s defense does not use a tradItional MLB that plays right behind the line and primarily plays the run. We play Edmunds and Milano, and they play then because they are each fast and can cover a lot of ground. If your idea of a MLB is like a Butkus, you will never be happy with Edmunds. He is not that guy.
