I also think he missed the entire 2014 season to injury (IIRC).

That was this year. I think he meant 2016. Bradford played 15 games for Minnesota and had a pretty damn good season. 71% completion percentage, almost 3800yds, 20 TDs to 5 INT.

Happy trails to Todd Haley, officially out in Pittsburgh
BillsFan4 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll be curious to see if anything comes out about this down the line. I find it interesting that someone would (potentially) turn down a shot at being a head coach for a shot at being an OC. -
Bon Jovi on Howard Stern Talking Buffalo Bills
BillsFan4 replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As others have said, it wouldn't have mattered if Bon Jovi wanted the team to stay or not because he would have only owned a minority stake. Plus, even if he truly had planned on keeping the team here, it would have been an axe hanging over all of our heads. We'd have been constantly worried about when the lease ended at the Ralph them taking off to Toronto, or if enough public money wasn't given for a new stadium them taking off to toronto, or if ticket sales or profit margins weren't high enough... well, you get the point. Toronto would have constantly been hanging over our heads. -

Castillo was the very first person McDermott hired after he got the Bills job. He was hired almost 2 weeks before Dennison. I'm not sure if Dennison and Castillo are friends but I believe you are thinking of when Mike Waufle was being recruited by the Bills. He's good friends with Castillo and was the one who said in that video about how he was excited Castillo is coming too.

Was Saints loss equivalent to Homerun Throw-Forward?
BillsFan4 replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The way I feel is that Minnesota legitimately won that game. They did it with a perfectly legal pass and catch. There was nothing about that TD that shouldn't have counted. It was a legit win. Buffalo got robbed out of a win by a play that should not have counted due to an illegal forward pass. -
Technically, I don't think Daboll has ever been fired for poor performance. I'm not sure if he's actually ever been fired at all. What happened in his 3 previous NFL stints is that the head coach he was working for was fired. Eric Mangini brought him with from New England when he got the Jets head coaching job. Then when Mangini was fired in NY and got the HC job in Cleveland he again brought Daboll with to be his OC. After 2 years Mangini was fired in Cleveland and Daboll's contract was up, so he interviewed and got the OC job in Miami. Tony Sparano was fired the following season and Daboll took the OC job in Kansas City. After 1 season Romeo Cremnel was fired in KC and Daboll went back to New England. I dont think this hire has anything to do to do with that old boys network either. McDermott and Daboll never really worked together. McD was a player in Daboll's very first year ever as a coaching intern way back in 1997. Daboll moved on to Michigan the next year, so they never worked on the same coaching staff together. Seeing as it was Daboll's first year on a coaching staff (as a 22yr old kid) I doubt McD is very familiar with him and his coaching style (as I don't think Daboll was doing all that much coaching at that point. He was probably in a typical grunt work coaching intern role breaking down film etc). If this was about hiring someone he knew, I'd have to believe he would have hired Mike McCoy, Rob Chudzinski or Mike Shula - all 3 currently available and all 3 McDermott has more experience working with (and much more recently too) and has a much better idea of their coaching styles and/or how they run things sinc ehe seen them in much more prominent roles than Daboll. With how quickly this hire happened (2 days after Dennison was fired?) I have to think that Daboll was their #1 target, and I'm guessing that's because they felt he was the most qualified for the job. If you listen to the things Beane said the day of his year end presser recently, Daboll seems to check most of the boxes they were looking for. Very successful diverse power run game, designs his offense to fit the team's talent, has experience as a QB coach (at the NFL and college level) & working with young QBs, has shown he can make in game adjustments, known as a very good teacher of the game, great with X's and O's, very detail oriented and organized, known to be very good at connecting with his players, buys in to what the head coach is trying to do and delivers that message to the players, believes every player has to do their jobs well in order to have success... I could go on, but this is already long enough. lol. Let's just say that he really seems to fit the model of the Sean McDermott coaching style.

Not sure if this has been posted yet... 2 ex-NFL QB's give thr low down on new Alabama OC Brian Daboll - http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2017/02/two_ex-nfl_qbs_give_the_lowdow.html
-
I'm surprised more people aren't excited about this hire. He checks a lot of the boxes people said they wanted. -He uses a diversified power run game (very similar to Roman) that he has had much success with and will obviously bring to the Bills. -He has been a QB coach at the NFL and college level (and was just OC and QB coach of Alabama) and has experience working with young QBs. -He believes in designing an offense to fit his players, not in forcing a rigid system on a team. -He's shown to be able to make in game adjustments -He's not just some old retread set in his ways or just some friend of McDermott's. He is a very young coach (by NFL standards) and seems open to change. I am pretty darn optimistic about this hire.

http://www.masslive.com/patriots/index.ssf/2016/12/bill_belichick_patriots_coachi.html Found it very interesting that, while working with the Patriots, Brian Daboll is actually the one who found Josh McDaniels and hired him as a coaching assistant. Then he and Josh McDaniels found and hired Matt Patricia. Hopefully he can find those types of assistants to bring into Buffalo!

Pats DC Matt Patricia to Lions, per Albert Breer
BillsFan4 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. Hes the the one I want to leave the most. Belichick is a defensive mastermind. I think the Pats D will be ok without Patricia. But losing McDaniels, an offensive mastermind IMO, could potentially hurt them more. A new OC and possible tweaks to the system/play calling/verbiage etc with a 41yr old Tom Brady. Knowing the Pats they won't miss a beat, but damn would it be nice if they did. -
My bad.
-
I think he was QB coach with the Jets, no? He was OC in Miami, KC and Cleveland.
-
Huh? How did he inhereit the Alabama OC job? And how does he have little experience? He was hired by Alabama off the Patriots staff, where he spent much of his career (2000-2006 & 2013-2016). The guy has 5 super bowl rings and a national championship (he's won both a SB and national championship in the past 11 months). He was Belichick's first hire when he got the Patriots job and was said to be one of Belichick's most trusted employees. Belichick said his knowledge for the game is 2nd to none and that he could coach every position on the field. It was rumored for weeks that he was going to be Belichick's replacement for Josh McDaniels if he gets a head coaching job. Daboll's been hired by Nick Saban, Eric Mangini and by Bill Belichick, twice. He's been an offensive coordinator for 4 teams (3 of them NFL teams) and spent 17 years coaching in the NFL. He's been a coach since 1997 and has experience as an offensive coordinator (5yrs), wide receivers coach, tight end coach, QB coach, offeisnce assistant and defensive assistant.

Did anyone catch Chris Brown talking on WGR before the Bills playoff game? He said that Terry Pegula did in fact offer Doug Marrone a contract extension and he turned it down. That actually makes sense because we know for a fact that a Bill Polian had his ear at the time and was going to be brought in to the organization to work with Marrone, and that it fell through because Marrone left.
-
I was thinking the same thing! He's the only guy guy to beat Belichick/Brady in a Super Bowl twice. Not gonna lie though, it makes me feel a little queasy having to root for Doug Marrone to reach the Super Bowl... lol.
-
Well, now maybe the Bills defense will get more credit for holding Fournette and Jax's offense in check all game... Also, Doug Marrone definitely deserves his due credit, but I still can't help but think when I watch Jacksonville play that this really looks like a prototypical Tom Coughlin coached team.
-
Wow. I just got home a little while ago and was shocked to see that Jax was up 21-0, and now 28-7. Makes the Bills look a little better for the way we played them IMO.

If the OC is Bevell I see 2 Things.....
BillsFan4 replied to JMF2006's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have no idea what the exact plan is at QB or who they will go after, but after listening to Brandon Beane on WGR I am pretty damn confident that they will be addressing the QB position meaningfully, one way or another. He says this is a QB league and until you have that guy you can build around you are constantly searching. He said finding a frahcise QB is a GM's number 1 job and the Bills are "still in the process of trying to accomplish that". (aka, it's not Tyrod) He went on to say that he has already seen "every QB that matters" in this draft - every QB that could potentially go in the first round. Then went in depth into how deep they dig into these QBs and all the things they look at. I was impressed listening to him. He he gave me a whole lot of hope man. It really sounds like QB is at the top of their list to me. Here, when you get a chance listen to these Beane interviews. I think it may make you feel a little better. I know it did for me - (Id suggest listening to the top link first. It's a lot talk about QBs). http://www.wgr550.com/media/audio-channel/01-10-bills-general-manager-brandon-beane-howard-and-jeremy http://www.buffalobills.com/video/audio/Brandon-Beane-We-think-this-helps-the-Buffalo-Bills-/86e9f397-8c2c-4c95-85d1-a8359ad5150b -
If the OC is Bevell I see 2 Things.....
BillsFan4 replied to JMF2006's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brandon Beane was on WGR earlier this week, after his year end presser. He said that whoever they get at QB will have nothing to do with him fitting any specific OC's system. Beane said if you acquire a specific QB because he fits the OC's system then what do you do if/when that OC leaves? He said they will try to get a guy that has all the tools/traits/intangibles (etc) they're looking for and feel makes a successful franchise QB. Then they will expect their offensive coordinator to design a system that best fits that QB. So, I don't think that they will draft Jackson or Mayfield just because they hired Darrell Bevell. If they draft either of those QBs, I think it'll be because they think that he'll be a franchise guy. don't think they will necessarily keep Tyrod for Bevell either. The only way I see them keeping Tyrod is if they are not able to find anyone they feel would be an upgrade over him. Or if they feel he is the best they can do for a veteran bridge QB for next year. After listening to Beane, I'd be surprised if he was here next year, though (again unless they can't find an upgrade or better veteran bridge). Beane gave me the impression that they would be going hard after a QB. -
I actually kind of feel just a little bit bad for Eagles fans... (not really though) Had Wentz not been injured this may have been their year. Now it's a pretty decent possibility that they lose Jim Schwartz and/or Defillipo/Reich.

I read that teams can only block an interview for a GM job until their season is over (including playoffs). Teams can block for other lower front office roles (as they are considered lateral moves) but not a GM job. Same me goes for coaching. They can't block for a head coaching position but they can for any other coaching position under the HC. OC, DC, QB coach etc. are all only considered assistant coaching jobs, therefore can be blocked (even though going from QB coach to OC is technically a promotion). Same goes for front offices. Teams can definitely turn down the interview if that person doesn't have interest in the job though. At at least that's how I understand the rules. I think there is certain criteria that has to be met though. Like the GM has to have final say on the 53 man roster, or teams can say that even though it's a GM job it's still a lateral move. I know the Bears did that to the Browns a couple years ago. NFL rules can get pretty complicated...

Smith and Taylor trades never happened. You never even said it was Smith until after the reports came out speculating Smith to Buffalo. Remember? The Stadium didn't happen. You can't get credit for something that didn't happen. But hey, at least you're not claiming to have predicted the Benjamin & Dareus trades and Oeterman starting anymore. We are making progress! lol You never predicted the Williams run either. You specifically said it was a Joe Webb trick play. I asked you in my last response if you wanted me to go back and dig up your posts on this. You never answered, so I did it anyway. Here is just 1 where you specifically said it was Joe Webb. There are many more if you'd like me to post them, too... Members 218 1,111 posts Report post Posted December 17, 2017 (edited) There was a package and go back and read my original post. It will depend on game and situation. No need to use it. They still have it for two more games. It is apparent some people’s knowlede of the game is limited. Every team has a special package or trick plays they are used when needed. Remember the music city miracle. Do you think the titans ever practiced that play? Of course they did. Why didn’t they use it before the bills game, the situation didn’t call for it. The bills have a special package for Joe Webb, will they use it this year, who knows for sure. If the situation calls for it yes, if not then no. That is called strategy. So I am a fraud because they did not use the package. Every thing else I said is disregarded.so be it. I refuse to argue with people that refuse to understand what a source is. They do not run the bills, he talks to people and gets a batch of emails to read through. He doesn’t call the plays. Not everything will be exact. You piece things together we are checking with multiple sources right know about the stadium so I can get you specifics so I don’t hear, I could have said that but you have read through a bunch of emails and connect dots.
