Wild card round - Steelers @ Bills - 1st half game thread
HappyDays replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Coaching is the only reason this has become a game now... McDermott needs to stop with these brain parts on critical decisions in critical moments. And Brady needs to run the freaking ball. The same complaints we've had all year are still rearing their head. -

At no point on that drive did I expect us or want us to play for a FG attempt. Unfortunately we are playing without an entire unit in the game. -

The one thing he couldn't do is turn it over. A sack doesn't matter. It's TD or bust on this drive, just take a knee and get to the 2nd half. -

That's fine, I don't trust our kicking at all right now. Go into half up 14 and regroup. -

McDermott simply needs to do better with clock management at the end of halves in playoff games. It has been a huge weakness since he started here. -

Special teams has been just awful this year. And now our punter has pulled his hamstring. Just ridiculous. -

I don't know why we ever trot Murrary out there. Cook and Johnson should be our full time #1/#2 until the game is out of hand. -

I don't like designing plays to players off the bench. Ride with the ones that got us here. -

I swear we're the only team that gets teams into 20+ yard situations and regularly let's them convert. -

We made a conscious decision to go conservative on that drive. I guess I get it given how the defense is playing, but wasting great field position is a mistake. -

Couldn't have called a more perfect opening drive. Great play calls, great reads & throws, great OL play, great running, perfect catches. -
I think it depends on what kind of WR they draft in the 1st round... If they draft someone closer to Diggs skill set, I think vertical speed is still a big need and in that scenario I would take a WR with that skill set on day two. Last year I really liked Jalin Hyatt, I personally would have taken him with our 2nd round pick (although Torrence has looked mostly good so far). You could argue we have two needs at WR - someone that can be a true #2 outside WR with future #1 potential, and someone with game breaking speed. If we get all of that in one player I am good with that. But if it becomes necessary to take two different players, I would rather do that than leave one of those roles unfilled. Truth be told I am hoping they make some kind of splash at WR in free agency so they aren't forced to reach for one or two in the draft. They might have missed that opportunity when they passed on Hopkins last year... But no excuses, they have to get the position right some way some how. Even if it comes at the expense of other areas on the team.

It's not exactly true that the defense has been better this year though. There was a stretch in the middle of the season where they were performing like literally the worst defense in the league. They have certainly gotten it together down the stretch, but to be honest Leslie Frazier's problem was never regular season defense. It was always the playoffs where they would fall apart and let teams march up and down the field at will. Starting today we will see if that trend has finally changed.

What's your confidence level going into the game today?
HappyDays replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm at a 9. Pittsburgh was genuinely a bad team for most of the year. I'm not letting a couple of hot games from a 3rd string QB dissuade me. It's Jake Browning, it's Joe Flacco, it's Josh Dobbs. Eventually the true player always comes out. If the Bills manage to lose this game I'll be first on the fire McDermott train. We get the weakest opponent in the playoffs missing their best player. It could not possibly be set up better short of being the #1 seed. -

Ben Johnson gets it. For my money this was a perfectly called offensive game for the Lions. -

It wasn't dirty. He made the only possible hit he could make in that moment. Just so happens Higbee had awkward footing while trying to double catch the ball. -

100%. The only reason it looked bad is Higbee double clutched the catch and made the timing look weird.
