Who downvoted me before for saying handoffs to Cook on 1st down always result in 2nd & long? Well there's another one. We've had more yards lost than yards gained by Cook on 1st down. Play action. Harris. Anything but an undersized RB when they're expecting a run.

Only because there are a lot of rosters around the NFL who aren't as deep as we are. There are a handful of teams where Basham could make an active roster. Epenesa is fine as a backup. Elam is too young to give up on and had a decent rookie year despite falling far short of 1st round expectations.

Well you just answered your own question. If the Giants wanted to make sure no one else was able to claim him, the price should have been higher than switching late round picks two years from now. Another possibility is cutting a vested veteran and keeping Basham on the active roster then re-signing the veteran later and moving Basham to the practice squad. If somebody wanted to claim him after that, they'd have to put him on their active roster which might deter some suitors.
