He played RB during a preseason game it was memorable! I think he went on a long run maybe a touchdown.

Right. The concern has to be what would Watkins want to do. If he blows up and stays healthy all 16 games then suddenly he has all the levarage over a coach/GM who just refused to offer him the 5th year. Sammy was irked by fans comments on social media, how is he going to react to the team pulling his option which protects him against injury, all while he is rehabbing a foot. The same broken foot he played with for the same team... No loyalty in this buisness, I get that. I just think it's a little early for this coach and organization to start playing hard ball with one of its more talented players. It won't be long until coach needs a player like Sammy on his side in that locker room.

It's ignoring the assumed risk that anyone takes when guaranteeing an athlete money. His injury and reoccurrence goes right along with what I posted about Jones fractures shortly after the first surgery was announced. So many mentions comparing him to Julio with his early career injuries and then the Jones fracture. Now people are going to say this is the smart move? I don't get it. Maybe I do get it. It would have been smart if they did extend the 5th year because then what could we say? Hm they are showing faith in their best player and he will reward them by playing hard and not playing it safe so he can make sure he is healthy for his next contract. Then that would have been smart, but of course only if the Bills did it. They can do no wrong.

That's baloney. For what the Bills gave up and the talent Watkins has shown while healthy it's an easy decision. There is some risk to guaranteeing money to an athlete and this is part of it. You don't play hardball with your most talented guy because he has a reoccurring injury. Jones fractures have always caused extended problems in athletes and led to second surgeries. This is not Byrd telling people his feet are sore. This is well documented. Losing a year of leverage for what? If Sammy has a slow start due to the foot do you think he is signing here for less than that tag? No.

JetBlue baby! McHardass wants to see Sammy at full health before he can make sure he is worth it. So piss him off, lose a year of leverage and awayyyyy we go. Same town different circus. Heck I bash Sammy as much as anyone and this was an EASY decision.

A few wins early would do wonders for these young guys. The schedule makers may have done us a favor with an opening day romp over the Jets. Good share Yolo. I hope the young guys respond to the new coach but I remain concerned. It's one thing to say we want accountability, then when a coach is all up your ass that attitude may change.

Right. Just hire Beane so the HC/GM can work in unison for once. If it fails they both go fishing. They entrusted McD running the draft on his own, pushing back on his preferred GM wouldn't make any sense. I'd be fine with the combo it would eliminate the endless HC/GM drama and the move would fall in line with the power they have given the new coach. If you don't trust him to pick the GM then he shouldn't have been picking players either. A HC/GM that ACTUALLY work in lockstep would also put an end to any meddling by the owners and or Russ, for those who subscribe to that side of things.

I think doing things to appease players ended the day McD showed up. I'm happy about that, but I think Watkins in Buffalo may be short lived now.

Something that I haven't seen mentioned, what is Watkins Impression of the Bills organization? He was close to Ryan, Ryan is balls deep with Clemson, as Shady says Ryan probably wishes that were his son. How much has big mouth Rex said to Watkins during this past year? If he sides with Rexy I'm sure some ill feelings are in place. That might be a little drawn out but it's human nature. Ryan treated him like a king. Practice when you want play if you can! Ohh that Sammy..can just hear Rex's voice always standing by him.
