  1. McCoy, no question in my view. While Karlos is all power he runs so upright I worry about him, and Dixon hasn't done much so far. The leading rusher might just be Tyrod. The Bills still have receivers in Harvin, Woods, 7/11, Clay, Goodwin, Thigpen, Mulligan, Gray, Gragg, and maybe even give Easley some targets.
  2. Yet that QB still went 7-5, and threw for 3018 yards, 18 TD's, in only 12 games. With a completion percentage of 64.2%, and I agree he did all that with the worst rated offensive line in the league. So many Bills fans don't like Kyle Orton, and I dunno why. Marrone wanted him back, and when Orton said he was retiring even after being offered 5 mill per, his retiring is a big reason why St Doug quit. The Cowboys also gave Orton a call when Romo went down this year. I agree the overall talent on the offense this year is greatly upgraded this year over last year, and while not completely upgraded. The overall offense is in far better shape this year then last. All the Bills players played their hearts out for Dick Jauron, and I wouldn't want him back either
  3. The whole story isn't written just yet, and by that I mean its only been three games for Tyrod Taylor. Not five years like it has been for Kaepernick! Would the 49ers have been smarter to sit Kaepernick a few years, and keep Alex Smith as the starter? With no veteran QB behind him pushing him or on the bench to help guide him Kaepernick has regressed very badly the last two years. Man 0 man, Colin Kaepernick was 9 of 19 for 67 yards, and 4 INT's last game against Arizona, and Blane Gabbert is the backup Whats puzzling to me is that the 2014 49ers were #4 in rushing yards, and #9 in rushing attempts, and yet were 25th in points, 20th in yards because the QB was stinking it up almost every game. Kaepernick had a decent receiving corps with Anquan Bolden, Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis, Brandon Lloyd, Stevie Johnson. Then RB Frank Gore was a beast as the 49ers had over 2000 yards rushing. It got so bad on offense that Jim Harbaugh took over the play calling half way thru the season. Yea, Tyrod has been great in all three games even though the rest of the offense has not been so great. Taylor is making an average to below average offensive line look better then it is with his runs, and roll outs. Who know what will happen should Tyrod injure a wheel, and be forced to just throw from the pocket. Anyway, here is hoping that the current great success of Taylor, Roman and the Bills offense continues
  4. Really Kirby? Marrone seemed more intent on helping his friend the ST coach, and basically neglected what was going on with the offense. Coming from an offensive background as the Saints OC you would think that he would have had major input into what was going on with the offense besides up the middle 70% of the time with Spiller, and Jackson the first season. Then letting his OC go crazy calling pass plays before his second year QB was ready for that in year two. Then once he had Orton under center they basically just called 40+ passes a game, and almost ignored the run game. Kyle Orton carried that 2014 offense despite the bad offensive coaching. Marrone with an offensive background and his offenses stunk, and were no better then around 20th each year. No QB coach the first year with a bunch of rookie QB's, really? That singular move was about the most stupid thing I've ever seen a HC do in his first year. The only thing Marrone had over Chan Gailey was the hiring of DC Mike Pettine, and then DC Jim Schwartz. Then I'm pretty certain that Russ Brandon / Doug Whaley hired the former, and might have had a strong hand in hiring the latter. If Gailey had hired Mike Pettine from the start he would have done a lot better then 6-10, and perhaps might even still be the Bills HC.
  5. The 1977 Atlanta Falcons used to run that, and even had a nickname for it. They called it the "Gritz Blitz" under Leeman Bennent , and it worked on and off for a few years. Jerry Glanville became the Falcons DC, and then started using that again when he became a HC. Anyway that 1977 Falcons defense set a defensive record that still hasn't been broken. That year they were ranked 1st in points allowed, and 2nd in yards allowed. You can read about it here: https://swisssportsblogger.wordpress.com/2014/10/20/breaking-it-down-atlantas-gritz-blitz-defense/ The problem is that all it takes is one receiver breaking free, and its off to the races. Now that plan might just work if you have all the DB's holding while trying to jam the receivers. Then after a few hard hits on Brady things might just go differently. One other thing, anyone who discards the idea that knowing the opponents game plan doesn't help. (Bryce Brown / Matt Cassel) All they need do is look back to when the Bills signed Patriots S Lawyer Milloy 5 days before the start of the 2003 season, and the Bills whomped the Patriots 31-0. If Bill Bilicheat wasn't already cheating this probably gave him the idea to spy on other teams practices.
  6. Lets not forget that Rex Ryan wanted some players too. Tyrod Taylor- Percy Harvin- Richie Incognito, and he picked Greg Roman for his OC. But yea, this years team looks to be far better with those players and other new acquisitions in RB Shady McCoy, RB Karlos Williams, TE Charles Clay, OG John Miller, DB Ronald Darby.
  7. and don't forget who the QB coach is...
  8. First off Brady doesn't simply throw to a "spot", he throws to the open receiver, and that might be to any number of "spots" on the field. Gee, if only the Bills were allowed 150 players on defense so they could cover all the "spots" Brady might throw to! Seriously, Rex Ryan was so worried about giving up big plays that he opted for dropping into coverage rather then going all out after Brady, and how did that work out? Brady set a franchise record for passes against a Bills defense with 466 yards passing. The very first play from scrimmage against Brady the Bills were off the line by five yards, and only rushed three D linemen (Kyle, Mario, Marcell)with Jerry Hughes #55 dropping into coverage on a WR in Aaron Dobson #17. YEA, THAT"S RIGHT! A DE IN PASS COVERAGE ON A WR!! The second series for the Patriots they were in max protect for Brady with just two WR flanked out on either side. The Bills had five on the LoS with Bradham being the fifth. The Patriots ran play action thus keeping the remaining two LBers frozen two yards off the LoS, and then they moved up to the line to stop the RB. But it was a play action pass and Brady hits #17 Dobson all by himself just past the first down marker. Why Gilmore was giving the WR a ten yard cushion I have no idea. The next play the Patriots were five-wide empty backfield. The Bills rushed only three, and were stoned by being double teamed at the line except for Mario had to run the arc. Brady got the ball off deep to Gronk after 3 1/2 seconds. Meanwhile the Bills were dropping everyone else into coverage with Darby on Gronk, who caught that deep pass for 36 yards. The next play was a penalty on Gronk, so its 1st and goal on the Bills 15 yard line now. The next play was a coverage sack by Mario on Brady because he had nowhere to go with the ball. The next play the Patriots went 4 wide, and initially the Bills rushed 3, and then sent a LBer late on the left side. Brady hit Edelman for 7 yards. Now 3rd and goal on the Bills 8 yard line. NE goes four wide, and the Bills have five on the line the Bills, and only rush three!! Mario, Bradham, Marcell. Mario almost gets there as Brady goes out of the pocket to the area where Mario came from, and hits Edelman for a TD. The next series for NE Amandola returns it to the Bills 28 yard line and a 15 yard PF penalty on Bills #27 ( Duke Williams) gives the ball to the Patriots on the Bills 13 yard line. The Bills rush four, and Brady hits Edelman crossing for 7 yards. 2nd and goal from the Bills 7 Pats RB dion Lewis off RG for 7 yards, and TD. Gronk singled up on Mario for a kick out block to open a hole for Lewis. Bottom line is the Bills never really pressured Brady. They didn't try and jam the Patriots players on the line either, and instead were mostly playing off the line. Almost a 10 yard cushion by the Bills CB's & safeties. The Bills were almost always in soft nickle coverage that Brady exploited by hitting the underneath stuff. Then when they were at the goal line they used their multiple TE package to score. The simple fact is Tom Brady is a first ballot HoF QB who has seen every coverage there is and will exploit any coverage unless the opposing team can field five Revis Islands. The Bills would be better off attempting to jam Edelman and Gronk at the line, and play close man coverage while blitzing every chance you can. Brady can be hit, and once he is knocked around enough he will make mistakes just like every other QB. To be honest I was quite surprised the Bills played that soft coverage scheme against Brady considering he had three rookie O lineman protecting him. JMO
  9. Yep, both Carr, and Mack looking good now. Mack was good last year, and now with Del Rio as his HC he will have someone who knows how to best utilize him. Ken Norton as DC helps too. WR Amari Cooper also looks like he could be an all pro very soon. This week the Raiders should be 3-1 after a trip to hapless Chicago. Yea, he looked like a superstar against the Bills last year because last years coaching staff was so lame they couldn't figure out a way to help chip the guy. Or simply didn't think he warranted the extra attention even after he was harassing Orton every play. The Raiders defense also did a number on the Bills run game with allowing only 13 rushes for 13 yards. Man, I'm so happy those offensive mental midgets in Maroon, and Hacker are no longer in Buffalo.
  10. I don't blame Bill for wanting more picks spent on the offensive line in the first round because the Bills have done that only once since 2002, and that looked like an afterthought being the second pick in the first that year. RB 03,WR 04, (WR in 2nd 05) DB & DE 06, RB 07, DB 08, DE 09(C with 2nd first round pick)RB 10, DT 11, DB 12, QB 13, WR 14, (DB in 2nd in 15)Four DB's- Three RB's-Three WR's-Two DE-One DT. One C. One QB, One QB, and one O linemen says a lot to me as to why this team has been so mediocre over the last 15 years. We all want Tyrod Taylor to develop into an elite franchise type pocket passer, and the Bills had better build him a decent pocket to throw from at some point. Tyrod looking a lot like another Russell Wilson running all over, and hopefully he stays healthy all season. If Tyrod gets a wheel dinged he will be a sitting duck behind that current line, IMO. Fingers crossed! The Buffalo Bills appear to currently have more money invested in their defensive line then any other team in the NFL, and it doesn't seem to be paying off when the team only rushes with the front four. (Patriots Game & Dave Wannstedt) Then all those picks at DB didn't seem to slow down Tom Brady in setting a Bills franchise record for passing yards against with 466. Just sayin. . On a different note, this years team is a collaborative effort between the new HC, GM. But there are a few players that this HC wanted, and look to be making a huge difference for the team. Tyrod Taylor- Percy Harvin- Richie Incognito, and Greg Roman was his choice for OC. While Rex Ryan might put his foot in his big mouth at times he is a big reason why the team is doing so well right now.
  11. Thanks Mr Packers fan!
  12. That pick was all Chan Gailey, and him wanting his "waterbug" type player. Probably because he saw the talent in the kid firsthand during his HC college days at Georgia Tech. Spiller at Clemson (2006-2009) was the ACC offensive player of the year in 2009. Naturally Nix wanted to give his new hire as HC the players he wanted. Gailey also came into Buffalo spouting to the FO that he didn't need superstars on offense to win games, and could get it done with average players. (perhaps "average" meaning less expensive) The man might have been a bit more successful in Buffalo if he knew who to hire as his DC. JMHO But yea, I'm darn glad he is a Saint now!
  13. You know another person who is so technically involved in an offense it borders on ridiculous. Jon Gruden is very much like that, as his offensive play books are enormous, and he wants his QB's to learn and know every play in it. So that in any given situation he can bring up some obscure play that nobody knows or remembers and run it. Probably why he really only had great success with the Raiders, and veteran QB Rich Gannon who was in his 12th season, and on his fourth team.
  14. Thanks I don't see Pagano getting another HCing job right away if he fails with Andrew Luck at QB! Frankly, I can see Miami going all out, as they tried to hire Jim Harbaugh previously. I look for them to make a big run at Bill Cowher, errp, meant JON Gruden aka "Chuckie". Heck, should the Bills make the playoffs I can see them trying to steal Greg Roman. * Hrmm, Mike Shanahan sitting at home might be another possibility.
  15. Spiller is probably still learning the terminology, playbook and other players numbers. He is just coming off an injury but I don't see him being a big factor in the offense until later in the season...if at all this year. The Saints were foolish to let Jimmy Graham, Darren Sproles leave.
  16. The Browns have a decent HC, and just need to give him time to settle things down a bit. They are still looking for their franchise QB, and I don't get why they won't just go with Johnny Football for now. If he stinks it up then draft a QB next year Their GM Farmer was fined for sending / texting offensive plays to their OC Kyle Shanahan during games which is illegal, and he is a real bonehead. This stupidity by their GM caused their OC to step down. Kyle is now the OC in Atlanta and he installed a kick ass offensive scheme that makes decent adjustments at half time. The Falcons are 3-0. The Browns are also in a very tough division AFC Central Steelers, Ravens, Colts have been in the playoffs almost every year as all three have their franchise QB.
  17. Philbin-Miami 1-2 is as good as gone if this team doesn't get a WC Pagano-Indy 1-2 in his 4th year, and the GM doesn't like him, and this owner won't accept a losing season with Luck at QB Wisenhunt-Tenn 1-2 in his 2nd year * looks like they have found their franchise QB in Marcus Mariota Fisher-Rams 1-2 in his 4th year, and he might have stepped into an enormous pile of dodo in the NFC West as his Rams have never finished better then 7-9 Gruden-Skins 1-2 in his 2nd year Lovie- Bucs 1-2 in his 2nd year- The owners might fire him and the GM for choosing the wrong QB. Time will tell. Gus Bradly Jacksonville 1-2 In his 3rd year now. Is Bortles the answer at QB? Mike Pettine Cleve 1-2 in his 2nd year now Jim Caldwell Detroit 0-3 with Stafford at QB, and megatron 11-5 last year and a WC berth so who knows. Mike Tomsula- 49ers 1-2 first year, but this GM & owner might have a very low losing threshold Not even gonna mention the 69 year old HC of the Giants because should they have a losing season he will step down
  18. I agree that the Bills main flaw is their O line, and I think its a major flaw right now. McCoy 11 rushes for 16 yards. Dixon 5 rushes for -1 yard. While Karlos Williams did much better with his 12 rushes for 110 yards. One of his runs went for 41 yards so its 11 rushes for 69 yards which is still excellent. Now McCoy might have a slight injury that's keeping him from being 100%. I also think its because they keyed on him to run the ball when he is in the backfield. Between Tyrod's roll outs, and Karlos's power I think it made a bad offensive line look much better then it really is, and lets not forget that the Bills were playing with a lead all game. Then that lead came from all Tyrod's passing with four straight passes till the TD pass to Clay. The Bills were supposed to be a power running team this season with more running then passing, and so far the only player able to meet that power run criteria is Karlos Williams. Tyrod Taylor also gives the offense a big edge with his running ability. Still, there are a lot of things that can change before approaching the playoffs, and one of them is getting their O line coach Aaron Kromer back from his team suspension. Then the rookie at RG, and the 2nd year RT can always get better in the developmental process.
  19. A fan started this thread because of his picking Sammy Watkins for his fantasy team hasn't paid off just yet, and he was whining about it. Do Nothing, and be patient! I made a positive post stating I'm patiently awaiting the days when Sammy will take over a game like some of the elite WR's today, and that the Bills might have found that elusive franchise QB that so very few teams have. Yet it gets misconstrued as I'm bashing Sammy. A brand new coaching staff is learning how to use all the weapons on the team. A new QB with just three game starts is learning how to throw from the pocket, and make plays with all the weapons at his disposal.
  20. This! and it shows what a quality OG can do. Like someone else said he was signed for one year, and I don't see Buffalo keeping him. I remember reading that some fans wanted to see him signed by Buffalo last season to eliminate that godawful Pears experiment at RG.
  21. This! McCoy 11 rushes for 16 yards, and Dixon 5 rushes for -1 yards tells me where the upgrades are needed most. The most pressing need ATM is clearly at OT, and offensive center. This week both Tyrod Taylor with his roll outs, and running ability. Along with Karlos Williams, and his power run game in the 4th quarter made that woeful offensive line look so much better then it is. What we don't know is if those tactics will work against every team as defenses will adapt to fit what the opposing offense is doing. We can all now see the difference a top OG can make with Incognito at LG. Sadly its a five man line, and its only as good as its weakest link /s. I can see the Bills being a serious super bowl contender with a few positions upgraded.
  22. Yea, I was just teasing the Patriots fan who started this thread
  23. 1) NE kinda sad that Tom Brady will face that 4 game suspension THIS Year after all. http://news.yahoo.com/nfl-source-tom-brady-serve-131628730.html 2) Denver's defense is the real deal this year with Wade Phillips as DC. QB Manning, and HC Kubiak still working out the kinks in the new system, and their O line is in bad flux. Should they get their run game going with Kubiak's power / zone run scheme then they could be in the SB this season. 3) Cincy looks like the real deal with Dalton playing very well, and their run game is solid. This team may have one of the best offensive lines in the league, and a decent defense too. could also be in the SB this year. 4) Buffalo-NY Jets-Pittsburgh-Oakland all 2-1 right now, and KC to play tonight. Pittsburgh, with Big Ben out for a month they don't look like a serious contender with their bad O line, and defense. But ya never know. Buffalo, looking good but the O line is still a concern against good defenses. Seems that rolling out Tyrod, and Karlos Williams power nullified those worries this week. NY Jets, are looking typical Jets with a top 5 defense, and a mediocre offense Fitz at QB 20th ranked O. Not a contender with Fitz at QB. Oakland, believe it or not the Raiders have a top 10 offense, and still one of the worst defenses in the league. Not a contender this year. Kansas, we will find out more after tonight. Could be a decent contender for a WC Baltimore, might be the best 0-3 team in the NFL, and always a contender for a WC San Diego, might have all the weapons to be a contender, and once they get TE Gates back by the 4th game they could be serious contender for a WC. Indy 1-2 their HC could be fired right after the Dolphins fire theirs. Miami, 1-2 in disarry not a contender Jacksonville, not a contender Tennessee, not a contender Cleveland, not a contender Houston, not a contender Seriously, its still way to early in the season to know what will happen at the end. Lets revisit this thread around week 9 or 10.
  24. P.S. Some of you guys get way to fired up over some terminology. Seriously, who cares. It was an excellent win against a hated foe! We are all brothers here, all Bills fans. RELAX. Oh I dunno, Indy is currently 1-2 with 56 Points For, and 80 Points Against. The Colts might just be another team that fires their HC before the season ends. They just beat another bad team at home in Indy in the Titans, barely 35-33 The AFC South sucks this year, as all four teams are 1-2
  25. It certainly helps to play a team that looks to be in total disarray!! I wouldn't be surprised if the Dolphins owner fires the current HC after a few more games like the one against the Bills. Both Karlos Williams, and Tyrod Taylor helped make a bad offensive line a non issue this week with their outstanding play. It remains to be seen if the Bills were really that good or the Dolphins were really that bad, and I'm thinking its the latter. The Bills lost to a playoff type team in the Patriots, and blew away two bad teams like the Colts, Dolphins. The 1-2 NY Ginats next- Then the Vols, err the 1-2 Titens- Then another playoff type team in the 3-0 Bungals Then the 1-2 Jugs.
