Bills place TE Zach Davidson on IR...ending season
Tuco replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
Only with an injury settlement. -
Ugh. First of all, the restructure in March was two different things. Diggs had a $16 guaranteed option bonus that had to be exercised by March 21. Don't anybody be fooled by the word "option" in a guaranteed option bonus. It's not an option on whether to pay it, it's guaranteed after all. It's a team option on how to pay it. That means when the guaranteed bonus is due the team has the option to pay it all in the season as guaranteed salary (almost never happens) or to convert it into signing bonus and prorate it over the rest of the contract (almost always happens). The sole existence of a (guaranteed) 2nd year option bonuses is a way to guarantee a player more money at signing, but not having it hit the salary cap until the 2nd year of the contract, while still being able to prorate it in the subsequent years. All the big contracts have them, White, Allen tons of players on all teams around the league. Many times those of us who look casually at the numbers don't always even realize they're there because in many cases the restructure of the bonus is automatic. And even if it's not automatic it always still happens except in rare cases. Because it's literally always going to happen, very often sites like Spotrac simply show the number as option bonus and the cap hits in future years as though the restructure has already happened, and we don't really even see it as a restructure. So we never think about it. This $16 million was an option bonus in the 2nd year of the new contract Diggs signed in 2022. And yes, by agreeing to be paid in option bonus form, Diggs totally gave, and expected, the Bills to "restructure" that part of his contract in March. So the only part of any March restructure we're talking about in relation to the OP's question is the $6.745 million of guaranteed salary that was also converted to signing bonus and gained some $5+ million in cap space. The CBA specifically requires all salary to be paid throughout the season in either weekly or bi-weekly payments. It is possible, as maddenboy pointed out above, to have an addendum whereby a player can agree to let the team restructure salary without gaining permission. But the real point is, whether Diggs had that in his contract or not, even if he could have refused and did refuse, he could only have refused to restructure the $6.745 million. Everything else he already agreed to when he signed the new contract in 2022. It would have been possible for the Bills to reduce the dead cap by another $16 million but they would have had to trade Diggs before that exercise date of March 21st. That was unlikely and didn't happen, and the option bonus was converted as expected. So the end result is, the restructuring of the $6.745 million in March that increased our '23 cap space by $5+ million, also increased our dead cap figure for trading Diggs in 2023 from $38.721 million to $45.466 million. That number could be split by trading Diggs after June 1st. But the total amount is the same. So, as Mango said above, restructuring Diggs didn't make him unmovable this year. Giving him the whole new contract with tons of guaranteed money in 2022 did that. Whether Diggs had the ability to negate any restructure in March is basically irrelevant since the only amount of dead cap he could have controlled was a mostly negligible when compared to what was already there.

The lunatic is in my head You raise the blade You make the change You rearrange me 'till I'm sane You lock the door And throw away the key And there's someone in my head, but it's not me And if the cloud bursts thunder in your ear You shout and no one seems to hear And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

This is me having a little fun on my Facebook author page . . . M. K. Danielson - Author Welcome to Book Club meeting #1. Today's subject – Propounderance. No, beloved readers, I did not misspell the word preponderance on page 45 of Deadly Possession. The word is propounderance. And yes, I am fully aware that's not really a word. Why then, you might ask, would I use such a non-existing word? Well . . . honestly, it should be a word. Consider for now the root of the word – propound: to put forward or offer for consideration, acceptance, or adoption; set forth; propose. Now, just as we see right in the above definition, the word acceptance, as we all know means – that which is accepted, or is to be accepted, or has been accepted. Following this literary line, it stands to reason that the word propounderance should come to mean that which is propounded, is to be propounded, or has been propounded. And that is the meaning aimed for on page 45. Now for those of you who haven't yet read Deadly Possession (shame on you), let's bring up a little context. The paragraph reads – Tommy filled a cooler with beer. He took it out to the front porch, ignoring the propounderance of salad that stared up at him. He rolled the gas grill over next to the TV, got a chair and sat down. He popped the top off a fresh beer, grabbed a piece of perfectly cooked chicken, put his feet up on the cooler and watched the race. As you can see, the word preponderance would have no place in that sentence. Not even close to the right word. Okay, so why use propounderance, and what's so important about the salad anyway? Why even include it? Fair questions. We know from our first meeting of Tommy that he is recently, once again, back together with his girlfriend, Lisa, with whom he admittedly has an ongoing contentious relationship. In the text body preceding the above paragraph, Tommy and Lisa have a doozy of a fight, during which, in addition to them screaming and name calling before Lisa leaves, a salad, that was meant to go with the grilled chicken, gets spilled on the floor. In the immediate aftermath of the fight, we, the reader, need to know that this time Tommy has really had it with Lisa. We need to feel that this isn't just another run of the mill fight, but that he's totally fed up and feels like he's completely done with her. And in this immediate aftermath there are two reminders of what just happened – a grill full of mostly perfect chicken, except for the two burned pieces that spawned the latest clash, and a freshly made salad that sits spilled on the floor. Now most all us would move to clean up the salad immediately, as leaving it on the floor just isn't right in anybody's world. But in this instance, Tommy, needing to distance himself from all things Lisa, at least in his present, short term post-fight cool-down, chooses to leave the salad on the floor for the time being. So why not just tell you, the beloved reader, all that in so many words like those above? Well, it has to do with great writing. 🤣😁Quality literature arrives when the author shows the reader what the character is feeling rather than telling the reader. Show-don't-tell is where it's at when looking for the audience to connect with characters. So given that the reader already knows the backstory behind the salad on the floor, rather than spell out Tommy's feelings by telling the reader something like, this time Tommy felt like he was really, really done with Lisa (boring)🤑, we can add just enough anthropomorphization🤔 to the salad in order to give it enough of its own life to not sit inanimately on the floor, but to offer itself up (propound itself), tauntingly, to Tommy as a mocking reminder of what just happened. And when we see (not hear about) Tommy choosing to ignore the propounderance of salad, at least for the short term, we, the beloved reader, can see and feel the same frame of mind the character, Tommy is in. Show the reader in a sentence rather than tell the reader with a paragraph. Great literature.😉 Writing like this, my friends, is why, someday (when we're all long gone), Deadly Possession will be talked about as a literary classic, right alongside others like Moby Dick and The Grapes of Wrath.🤣😂😎🥇 The word is propounderance. It's not in the dictionary, but it's my word, and it stays. Thanks for joining today's book club meeting, beloved reader. I heart you all.❤️ M. K. DEADLY POSSESSION: Danielson, M. What should the Bills plan be for their 2024 salary cap / roster?
Tuco replied to Adam727's topic in The Stadium Wall
Spotrac is currently projecting a $235 million cap for next year. Just the fact that the 3-year window of subtracting the rest of what should have been the reduction in 2020 (by the deal that was made back then between NFL/NFLPA) will be back to even, will certainly have it rising more than that. And with all the new TV money coming in it's likely the cap will be much higher than $235 million in 2024. I don't really mean to throw water on the thread, but in this case, I really think it's too early to be concerned. -
I saw a review from a "Kindle Customer" that looks very familiar to this comment. So I'll say thank you very much. And if anyone else gives it a read or has read it, I will thank you very much for any reviews left on Amazon. They do help as much or more than anything in convincing prospective buyers to give it a try. Go Bills!

The cemetery is already right in the middle of things. If they didn't disturb it for the stadium, they're not going to disturb it for a parking lot. Not sure if there's anything to the Native American (see what I did there?) burial grounds. The good news is the new stadium will be across the road and off the land of the cemetery. So hopefully no more curse.

Famous NFL Draft "Reaches" who went on to significant NFL Success
Tuco replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
In 1964 they drafted 20 rounds. And the NFL only had 14 teams. So the 88th pick (7th round) would be the equivalent of the 24th pick in the 3rd round today. -
