  1. #8 is my big worry. I have spent all off season to this point telling myself Rex is smarter than Pett and will not be so ideologically driven to blitz and generate flashy sack numbers but after last night I am concerned. Not only was the blitzing too much last night it was predictable as well. Sometimes you gotta let the front 4 do their jobs!

The Browns had one sustained drive against the 1's. I know the Browns aren't going to light anyone up, but 3 points per half should be considered a W for the D.

  2. ANY QB would have looked BAD against the porous OLine that I saw int he 3rd QTR!!!

Reading the play by play DOES not meet the EYE TEST!!! It doesn't show ZERO rushing yards and open lanes to the QB now does it.

EJ Haters PLEASE use the negative thread. That's why CBF created it.

    SHHHHH!!!!

Actually the play by play does show that when EJ was in there the RBs had <5 yards on like 8 carriers...so....

Interesting to see what the reps will be going forward.

Not sure I agree with Rex on this. I'm not sure the Colts inability to game plan for a specific QB is worth more than the starter getting as many reps with the #1s in camp as he possibly can.

I imagine he'll have his starter by game 4, but will play all the QBs that game (he's played his starter in the last game before, albeit disastrously). In closed practice, the starter will work with the ones. During camp with tweets from everyone he will not tip his hand . This would allow him time to thoroughly evaluate the competition, and then get the starter reps with the starters (plus we have had a lot of reps in camp because of the two fields).

  4.

Tylor had a solid night, he converted three 3rd downs with his arm and they weren't the short type. He took a bad sack and took a bad hit on read option play. He needs to avoid those kind of hits.

The only thing that worries me about Taylor is his inexperience but if he keeps playing with confidence he can be dangerous.

Agreed solid night from TT. Happy to have him start. I was worried by the hit on the read option but I don't think even that was too bad after I watched the replays. If he takes one of those hits a series then I feel confident he'll play the whole season. He uses his feet very well to evade defenders, and I really like how on early downs he is able to ensure with his feet that the offense gets positive yards.

  5. It's a shame we didn't get the chance to see TT with a true number one offense. I would have liked to see if they would have been able to get it in the endzone. As we all know our defense is set, but you got to score touchdowns to win. Withour putting 7s on the board you allow the other team to hang in there. Leaving the potential for a lot of painful defeats, with soild defensive play simply going to waste.

Yeah the 2 wasted opportunities worry me a little too. But being in the red zone twice in 3 tries (not counting the final drive) isn't too bad.

  6. Agree. Not sure with this front 4 we need to be blitzing so much on 3rd and longs. Looks worryingly like the Pettine D so far... too many yards on the ground and too many 3rd and longs converted.

Agree on the long passes on the 3rd down, but I think they'll fix that. As for rushing they have 46 yards on 13 carriers. Take away the stiff arm its 3 yards/carry. I don't think that's too bad.

  7. I`m still on a wait and see after this year and group of Qbs. They all look better than I thought. This game will tell a little more. Although the injuries will not give us a true reading with the ones.

This thread smells of cart before horse syndrome.

Seeing that all 3 of our existing quarterbacks played well in game 1 (I know it is just preseason), I think it is totally plausible that we might have a quarterback on this team right now that will lead us deep into the playoffs. Yes it is unlikely, but plausible nonetheless. No way you can make a good decision about the draft next year without seeing how this year plays out.

I think we DO have our 2016 QB on the roster; however next year's QB class does seem to be deep (assuming too many don't tank this season). I would expect the FO to take a QB in the 1st round, and let that rookie sit behind the vet that is already on our roster (for at least a year depending on the ability of the vet).

  8. It was already public knowledge that Nix was stepping down and Whaley was assuming the GM role. Once they made that public, then there is no way Nix makes a move without Whaley's approval. Think about it. No way Whaley says "yeah I'll take the job in a year and sure you can let Mr. Nix do whatever he wants between then and now." It just isn't going to happen because if Nix did that, he would be burning his bridge in Buffalo and essentially destroying his reputation as being a good ole boy. And the other management in charge at that time would have never asked Whaley to be put in a position where that could happen.

I disagree that your hypothetical quote couldn't happen. Assuming he wasn't getting other offers, I wouldn't be surprised if he did say that honestly. It's an NFL GM position. Its like a dream job; certainly pinnacle of his profession right? If I was told I would be Director in a year if I shut up and let my current manager finish his tenure, I would shut up and take the position in a year. A role in decision making would just be a nice to have.

I did appreciate your perspective on Kolb and liked your later posts too btw.

Nix can't take 100% of the blame.

EDIT: I do agree with this. You are right Whaley was probably involved in the decision making process, but I am assigning most of the blame to Nix. I would say 85%.

  9. I'm treating this like the Kromer case. Wait and see. There was a large rush to judgement there and many declarations that he would be gone.

If we just relax and drink our coffee/beer then we won't have to speculate.

This team is predicated on deception on both sides of the ball; there is no reason to think they wouldn't treat the media and us the same way.

He won't be cut, could be traded, but I think he's wearing a Bills jersey on opening day even if he isn't starting.
