As goofy as that sounds, I could actually see it happening. When teams fire coaches, they often to look for the opposite of what they had previously.

Going from the rather milquetoast Philbin to "Saint Doug" would be quite the 180, though knowing the way Stephen Ross has been lately, I expect something flashier.

That would be frustrating to me as the GM. I've built this team for a particular coach and his style. He is terminated for any number of different reasons (beach chairs come to mind). Now I'm going to do a 180 and try to salvage what I built. But maybe you're referring to other situations in which the coach did not scheme for his players at all, or the GM is terminated as well.

  2. The opposing team's offense's drive ends quickly. Combined with high rankings in yards per drive (low yards per drive), that means they stop opposing team's offense pretty quickly. Wonder if there's an average number of plays a team holds an opposing team to per drive stat...

Edit, yes there is... Indy is first in plays per drive given up (lowest amount of plays faced per drive at 5.2)

Interesting stuff. I wonder how they did outside their garbage division? I feel as if we would lead the league in all defensive statistical categories if we played in the AFC south.

  3. I was a big fan of Kiko when he was here and wish him the best but his durability is a concern as he looks undersized in the picture that accompanies the article. Do the Eagles have the DL to keep the big boys off of him?

Eagles have a good DL. I think it was ranked ahead of ours in one of the terrible off season rankings posted on the forum.

  4. I know I've been a staunch EJ guy, but apparently Tyrod looked good today as well. If he's more consistent I'm starting to buy in.

Agreed. I've been in the Anyone But Cassel club for a while. Both have pros/cons, but I think the biggest similarity is their ability to run the ball out of the read option.

  5. I don't know how high his value will ever get. He still has question marks and always will. And he's in his 30s.

I think long term the hope is to move Richardson there.

I think it's more likely that--assuming Glenn proves that last year was a lingering effect of his offseason issue--Bradham gets let go. I think there's virtually no chance that Gilmore goes, and Dareus should be signed by the time TC closes.

I think we're looking at the final season of guys like Wood, Kyle, and McKelvin in Bills' uniforms, so that'll be the tradeoff.

Plus, I think Roman is going to want all 3 OTs on this roster so that he can play one of them in 6-man blocking sets like he did in SF.

Didn't Kyle get extended? I think he'll be back next year but I don't think (in order of likelihood IMO) McKelvin, Fred, and Wood will be back next year.

  6. The Guard play (Incognito AND Miller) is extremely good. The left side of the OL is very, very good. RT (both Seantrel and Kujo) is average.

Tyrod is showing that he can be a pocket passer. He scrambled maybe three times today, and that's enough to keep the box stacked and Sammy-Woods-Harvin-Clay happy.

    Great news on the Line.

    Thanks Astro

UPDATE: @salmaiorana assesses the #bills QB situation: http://on.rocne.ws/1Um5Gj4

The bar on the side is funny. His pre-camp prediction had EJ at 50% and then on Aug 2 at 25%. I love that reporters (like this board) hit the panic button after 3 days. I'm going to hold off all predictions until at least the scrimmage, but I will continue to laugh at any wild fluctuations in predictions on a day to day basis.

Since it's an off day, let us take time to smile at this:

Finally, THIS is the year that Brady is done!

Welp now you've gone and jinxed it!!!

  8. Most exciting thread in a month. Thank god. This defense was good last year when we just sat back and didn't blitz. If we can get away with 8 in the box, I don't know if theres much to stop us.

Side note with all the confusion/chaos I would imagine the % of turnovers converted to TD's is higher. Did the '85 bears score a lot of TD's off of turnovers?

  9.

Let me ask you this .... if you were interviewing a possible candidate for employment and they bashed their former employer, would you look favorably upon that?

Interviewing no. But after I have been hired by my new company I have had no problem thrashing my old company. Particularly I enjoy pointing out the numerous examples of how my new employer is better than my old employer. Also my new employer seems to love me. I have been given additional responsibilities and am leading people who have been with the company longer (although I have more experience and better degrees).

So I don't think Sammy's coaches or the FO have a problem with this. I don't have a problem with it (particularly because Fred has done it); as long as it doesn't interfere with his performance. I don't think this is bashing; also IIRC these comments have come out already too so not sure why the BFD now.

  10.

Well, I don't know. People are talking about him being a starter, and moving to LT to replace Glenn, so my question is what does another team value him as?

Seeing he was drafted in the mid -7th round, everyone else passed on him for 7 rounds. What is his value now outside of the Bills?

Sorry, I don't think its a bad thought/question. Gun to my head I think he might get a 5th (probably over optimistic too). I just don't think he's shown enough to have too much value outside of Buffalo. Also since we are so short staffed we have added desire to retain him. Like I said though if we draft another OT and keep Glenn then he would most certainly be on the block. Crazy how quickly things can change, but this year I think he's here.

  11. I'm starting to get to the point where I am not just frustrated at Kromer's idiocy, but I am also frustrated at the leaking of information/handling of the matter.

I think it has been >1 week since we first heard he was going to be fired. Then Vic reports the termination will be end of the week and now Joe B is reporting also a termination (although very short on any details).

If the axe is above his head just let it fall; otherwise, put these rumors to bed. Have we heard anything from OBD besides he's on paid leave and we're working with NFL HQ.

Either way I think his paid leave or employment ends this week.

  12.

Third round for Sammy seems to high if your league is 12 players or fewer. Too many unknowns, and not just the QB situation, but the question about how many players between Shady, Percy, Woods, Clay and Sammy can actually be involved on a weekly basis.

I think if you take any Bill (other than the D), it should be Shady.

I agree. As far as rankings at their fantasy positional group I expect it to be

    Defense (top 5)

    Shady (top 10)

    Sammy (top 15)

    Clay (top 20)

Harvin, I expect to be available on the waiver wire if you like a matchup, but if you can't get him its probably better that he is sitting on someone's roster.

  13. What I see happening is opponents with good D lines needing only 6 in the box to stop the run, so regardless of the talent level of our WRs there will be abundant pass defenders to prevent our QBs from hitting quick routes to escape pressure.

I can not disagree with this enough. I assume the counting game is how our QBs will live actually. If there are >7 in the box throw it. If there are =<7 in the box then run the ball. I think Roman averages >1 TE on the field per snap so thats >6 blockers on the field per snap. I don't think playing nickel against us will be very successful (except in obvious passing downs).

  14. It just show they are spending money, nothing else. Whether or not they've done that spending wisely remains to be seen. IMO it has been a mixed bag with some nice moves (Mario, Hughes) and some poor ones (Shady, Clay).

I like that your examples of poor moves haven't gotten a chance to play yet. Not to say they will work out but you probably could've gone with C Williams instead.

  15.

The same way we have no possible way of knowing whether EJ would have been better with a different OC but it hasn't stopped people yet.

We're actually going to see him with a different OC, and as many of the "apologizers" have said if he can't make it this year then the book is definitely closed.

Its funny that most of the argument isn't about whether the book on EJ is closed, but rather what is the likelihood that he can put it together. I think I would be labelled as an EJ sympathizer, but then again I always Billieve.

  16. If a company offers me 3 million more, I'd say my loyalties shift awfully quick. I don't care who I am working with for a couple years...Also, discounts would be good if I were playing for a team in Sunny San Diego because I would feel so pleased to be in such a beautiful place - even if you don't allow me a portable fridge in the locker room. If you want me to stay here in the snow, better get your checkbook out.

3 million over the course of the contract or per year. One is ~3% increase the other is ~30% increase (for MD's contract). There are players who have decided to forgo the small increase to stay where they are successful. This past offseason one of those players was from GB (granted it was Buffalo not SD trying to pry him away with more money). I really think players consider their future success when making these decisions.
