  1. I suppose the final four participants do it, as a curveball.... But that's been pretty built up- and I might argue signifies winning your bracket to get there as what gets it back on track. Like someone else pointed out with conference championships, you've won your segment to get in

Plus everyone does it, so you aren't the weirdo.

Maybe sweet sixteen? People hang that sometimes? It's almost a better matchup in tournament structure, I guess.

Lots of team hang sweet sixteen banners, and the NFL playoffs are a tournament. I don't like the wording but think hanging a banner for their postseason run is ok because they won 2 playoff games. That's not easy and something worth celebrating (just maybe not with the memory of "oh yeah we blew it").

  2.

The fact that the work so far has not been mandatory to this point is really beside the point. If the guy was serious about wanting to play for this team he would have been there. Unless he comes in and is the second coming at this point, he is done with this team, and probably with the NFL. No other explanation other than lazy.

My response was to a post about why haven't they cut him YET. He's toast in my opinion, but at this current moment there is no reason/benefit to cut him. If you did cut him you would just have the cap room. If you want to sign someone, then you cut him when the deal is inked. His position on the team is very tenuous.

  3. I guess I agree with all of this. But, given the choice between Hogan and Goodwin, I would rather have Hogan's short yardage reliability over Goodwin's occasional big play potential, since we already have at least two players with that type of downfield advantage in Watkins/Harvin.

Some on here have made the point that Goodwin has better hands than Hogan. The stats completely contradict that notion (44% to 66%), although I understand that Goodwin has been used in a very different way, and perhaps (as you suggested) misused by Marrone. But, there's no denying that Hogan has made quite a few more first downs than Goodwin. I would consider that more valuable for someone lower down the depth chart than an outside chance at a big play.

But, I would also rather have Lewis over Goodwin. As far down the chart as Goodwin would be, I think it's more valuable to have one tall wide receiver who can highpoint the ball-- as I have read, Lewis highpoint ability is one of his strengths. We got one big play out of Goodwin last season. What could we reasonably expect from him this season? At this point (and, obviously, my opinion could certainly change between now and August/Sept.), I'm more interested in seeing what Lewis has to offer, or what his potential could be.

I also view Hogan more favorably than Goodwin. Conservatively he gives you 1 more first down per game and loses you a 50 yard TD every 4 games. I think for our offense (and more importantly defense) taking the extra first down a game will be huge.

I disagree that Lewis is better than Goodwin. I think Lewis is still too raw at this in point in time to really be useful (and I'm high on him, it should be easy to find with my low post count).

I think both Hogan and Goodwin make the team. and Lewis gets stashed on the PS. I don't think a team would take him off waivers to put him on their 53 man roster (17th in round 7 with 3 WRs going before him).

  4. The article made it sound like Mario and Jerry would be OLB's while Nigel and Preston would be ILB's. Kyle and Marcel would obviously be on the D-line. So, who would be the 3rd D-liner? Manny?

I think one of Mario or Jerry (currently thinking Mario) will have their hand down as a DE, and someone in our LB corp will be the 4th OLB (more athletic of Powell or Johnson).

I believe the FO has a good eye for young LB talent (Bradham and Brown), and one of the mid level guys will step up.

I also really like a front of Mario, Kyle, and Marcel. With Jerry on the outside of Mario and Marcel you could run some pretty awesome stunts. But this all assumes we have a really good OLB hiding on our roster.

  5. Before Brandon Spikes Preston Brown came along we struggled against the run

Fixed it for you. Spikes didn't see a lot of time last year, and Rex has had solid Run defenses. Additionally, Whaley has shown an ability to pick good ILBs. I think Ty Powell will fill in if necessary (hopefully not).

  6. Ryan Tannehill played 30 out of his 50 college games as a Wr. Ej played every game as a qb. Ej would not have shown growth just as he hasnt here. He literally has shown no growth from his college scouting report the pundits based his draft stock on 2 years ago. What do you base this theory that ej would be similar to tannehill if be was on miami?

I think he is using the "fair superior offensive coaches" (his mispelling not mine) as the basis for his theory. I do agree, Tannehill has had better coaches.

  7. Page 3 Post #58... I'm not really a tiresome analysis type of guy.... As for Randall Cobb stats, you'll have to ask the poster who introduced him into the thread...

I see you're a relatively new poster.. I'd just like to inquire on how many Bills games you watched last season, and what some of your general observations were.

14 games last year. I was high on the Orton decision when it was made, but have been convinced by posters on here that we probably should have gone back to EJ. I mean really its all been said before. Monster defense with pretty good players on offense (this year we seem to have upgraded). Trying to get over that ridiculous playoff hump. While my post count may be low that does not mean I don't read (cause in honesty this site has a good interface).

I did really like your point on Martavis Bryant, but I would like to see more than one data point was basically all I was saying.

  8.

The tide I was referring to John, was our nearly two decades-long playoff drought... And while It may not be directly analogous to the ocean, it NEEDS to turn... I lke the two TE sets... I've been calling for them for years. I just think we need that added dimension of a big EZ threat to create mismatches that lead to 6...

I stand by what I said. -Size matters.... But, when you've got the type of arm talent a guy like Rodgers brings on Sundays, it matters ALOT less. Randall Cobb doesn't do jack squat without the threat of 6'3" Jordy Nelson BURNING your secondary for an 80-yarder, but fine... Igore Nelson and key-in on Cobb. See what happens.

I am so confused. Are you saying size matters in the red zone or any where?

If size only matters in the redzone, then your rebuttal should have some more analysis. Did randall cobb score a significant number of TDs from outside the redzone, what type of formations score in the redzone (2 TE's versus 4 WRs)? I am willing to hear your point but I need a bit more.

If you think size matters anywhere, then I need a lot more.

  9. I think everyone is most interested in the QB battle. I bet Tyrod comes out swinging and that it will really be a battle between he and EJ overall. Still soooooo long to go but OTA's will be fun

For OTA's Yes, but overall No. I am most interested in the O-Line battle. If the O-Line is good we can run and one of the 3 QB's should have enough time to throw. But since theres no contact during OTA's this will get put off to TC, thus QB battle will be what I watch for OTA's.

  10. Slow

    Slow

    Not quick

    Slow

    Plodding

    Slow

Won't be able to get open against even the Slowest of LB's

    Great hands

    Slow

    High Motor

    Slow

He doesn't play golf and his dad is a dick

    Slow

Any time he is on the field a very good WR is not

    Slow

Any time he is on the field a CB is not.

I don't think he needs to be fast to be productive. He will be thrown at when the defense runs zone (assuming he is a smart player with good hands). When the defense runs man we'll be throwing to Sammy or Percy. Really just need him to be able to block to get significant time.

  11. There was another WR we took in the 7th. A Steven Johnson, or something. Whatever happened to him?

It was but the DB didn't have the sense to back out of his grip and make him lose the ball. Still he made the catch.

The ref seemed to throw the flag for D PI on that play. I think thats why he couldn't high point it. I am interested to see how he develops in a couple of years. Maybe he could be a good replacement for Harvin after next year.
