They allowed 19.1 points per game, good for 5th in the NFL. Dallas' D allowed 24 or more points 3 times all year, twice in the regular season. The Bills D (in '15) allowed 24 or more points 6 times in 1 less game. Again, they are very close in every category. I think TT got the edge in Rushing and Total Yards per Game.

If we want to go full tinfoil hat: the man in line behind Whaley is Jim Monos, who worked as an area scout in Philly while McD was coaching in Philly. Also, it seems to me that Whaley's preservation mode is that he just gives the HC whatever he wants and then points to that when evaluations come up. Maybe McDermott doesn't want a yes man, but instead wants someone who can provide feedback and a different perspective to help build the team better.
