Week 9 thread - We’re on to Cincinnati
Billsfan1972 replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Until Miami beats a team with a winning record, I'll reserve judgement. -
This is the case with many of the posters here who just want an excuse if the Bills lose and have many here thinking the Bills are playing the most complete team in the NFL. The same will be said when the Bills play the Chiefs, Eagles, Dallas & LA, explaining one of the following: that their opponents just found their groove, WR's too fast QB's in the zone bad matchup Bills emotionally drained...... The Bengals D has been bad and they have 1.5 quality wins (SF and maybe Seattle who they put up all of 17 points on and twice were inside the 10 yard line the last 3 minutes and couldn't score). The defeatist attitude is ridiculous.

Exactly what I want, because I am an eternal optimist, which is why when they don't perform I'm here often blaming the coaching. This is a team that has had a very good chance to win the Superbowl the last three years and they have not. Every playoff loss has been terrible (couldn't score vs. Jax, collapse vs. Houston, spanked by yes probably a better KC team, 13 seconds and an unmotivated, piss poor effort vs. Cincy). To me me there is one common thread and that was the coaching/decisions/play calling. Name me a game in the last 5 years where they really stepped up? I will say Dallas in 2019 & KC 2021 are the only ones -
100% agree. Embarrassing. But it is a built in defence for some here who refuse to point fingers at the HC and Defence. Dorsey of course is fair game for all.😜

And why can't they be? This is the argument I always have. We have a supposed defensive guru as HC and DC, yet whenever the Bills play a good team fans then are happy to give up on the D or make excuses for them. And of course I'm the bad guy here when I say anything saying McD should have them ready. -

Because Purdy is regressing to the norm and not getting every break? Yeah yeah no Deebo.... -

You're right I'm a Bills fan, absolutely right I'm looking from the Bills side. I expect the Bills defense to step up as this right should be personal and they have not for 4-5 weeks. So yes the defensive genius (Guru) should be able to come up with a solid plan, once every 5 week? -

Again teams need to adapt. They f'ing let Mac Jones dissect them and lead a game winning TD drive the last two minutes. That is a fireable offense!!!!😡😜 Shhhhh..... Heresy to say such things.😜 -

Who's making excuses??? You can't be serious. This site is full of McD truthers who seems to think he took over the worst team in the league coming off a 2-14 season and created a juggernaut. I've said he is a good coach. I however have seen too many warts that hold this team back, and yes he is responsible for a # of them. Enough about their top three defensive players, we get it. However I do expect more from them regardless. Again I only need to point to Cincy continuing to play well on offense last year stopping the Bills DL in the playoffs, without their 3 best OL's. Sometimes it is about coaching. -

I didn't say the Bills Defense isn't vulnerable. I would like to see them show up however as they have not been good and yes we get there are injuries, but all teams have them and yep sometimes they need to step up and the coaches held accountable (looking at you McDermott). Why are there always excuses? -

Yes this game really should tell us about McD. 10 days to prepare, a bad taste in his (and all Bills mouths) from last year, a Cincy D that is vulnerable, our defense, which McD coaches has not played well in 4 weeks (and while good vs. Miami, Miami too self destructed a # of times and did put up yards), and the fact that many here hold him in such high esteem, one day he needs to show he deserves that praise. Yep it is up to McD to have the team up and frankly roll Cincy. -

And that is the story of the Bills Defense. Way too often things like this happen (long drives, inopportune penalties, 3rd & 4th down conversions). Supposed to be different with McD calling the plays. -

How obtuse are you? Purdy is no Allen and yes he made a # of bad plays but still threw for 365 and 57 rushing, which means Cincy's defense is gettable. I'll take Allen Sunday. -

And again ignoring the elephant in the room, McD. It is the coach's responsibility to to get the team ready and McD has to do a better job with the defense. Yes Cincy has played better and had a great game vs. SF, but only 17 vs. Seattle and other games where they've struggled. We need to hold the defense accountable. -
How about just hanging up (or suggesting Mahomes be the back-up😜).
-
Oops Terrell Suggs returned 5 months after. So again good luck Aaron.
-
Adrian Peterson made maybe the greatest recovery from ACL surgery and that was 8 months after. And he was not 39. ACL tears are one of the most widespread and devastating injuries for athletes, impacting the likes of Tom Brady, Tiger Woods and Chipper Jones. While many athletes find that an ACL injury puts them out of the game for months, if not years, advances in ACL surgery are making it possible for sports stars to get back to their games faster. Football great Adrian Peterson recently made a tremendous recovery after ACL reconstruction, opening the season just eight months after having surgery.

Always excuses..... SF has a mediocre QB who yes needs all his weapons to look great. The excuses for the defense never cease, especially since McD is coaching them. Simply they need to play better and be coached better too. I will agree that the offense and coaching on that side needs to be aggressive and score a lot of points. Look at what Philly is doing. The Bills offense woke up some on Thursday, but still things seem difficult. But yup can't wait 'til Cincy put up 31 (not that I want them to) and come Monday we're told they were gutsy and undermanned and can't expect any more from them. BTW Purdy threw for 365 vs. Cincy's D (ran for 57 too). Dorsey should be able to exploit their D and Allen has some #'s to shoot for😜. -

I'm not as pessimistic, but this is where we are with the Bills. They are an elite team and frankly the excuses from some here get tired after a while. The issue hasn't changed with the defense. They allow teams back in the game and way too often too many 3rd and 4th downs converted and soft coverages. What really bothers me is the over-reactions when they make a stop on 2nd down and act as if they just got off the field and then lo and behold, the opposition converts on 3rd (or 4th). McD (and his disciples here) go on about his defense and frankly they are mediocre (or much worse) when games are on the line. I'll agree the offense needs to carry them and that means aggressive coaching on that side of the ball, but quit always making excuses for the defense. Are they injured yes, but then it is next man up? Remember how bad Cincy's OL was coming into the playoff game vs. Buffalo and they manhandled them. We should expect the same from McD of the defensive side of the ball. Of course I'll be thrilled with a 38-35 victory and complaining about the defense next week.😜🤣 -

We can only hope. Issues are however still there. Up tempo, but still only 24 points. What however has you feeling positive about the defense? -

After Tyrod, Mac & Baker and what has been meh performances (and I'll throw in allowing Jax putting up 500 yards on the Bills defense), this week will tell a lot. The offense should carry a big chip on their shoulder from last January and better put up 30+ and be aggressive (i.e. 4th downs <5 inside the oppositions territory), because I don't see the defense being able to stop Burrow. Hope I'm wrong as this game is big. -

A qb sneak from inside the 1 yard works.... Wow who would have thought it would work? Oh and Philly going for it on 4th and 4.
