They're targeting #3 or #4, I'm pretty sure. I just can't see the Giants trading away from #2 when they're guaranteed to get either Barkley, who helps immediately, or Darnold, who solidifies the post-Eli future. They might, but I just don't see why it makes sense for them... Eli only has a few years left and you have the rare opportunity to take a franchise-changing player without giving up anything. They have a decent roster, they were just decimated by injuries last year.

It's more like "I'd like to retire but I don't want to ever admit to 'quitting' because 'quitting is for losers' so I'm just going to blame my wife and kids." The kids are probably more than happy for Tom to be away instead of forcing them to shotgun kale juice every morning. Tom's football schedule also probably works for Gisselle's poolboy rotation.

Name your top six QB hierarchy

Same order, though I might even put Allen below Rudolph... actually, I think I'd rather trade picks for Foles than draft Allen. -
Was The Tyrod Taylor Era a Success?
LA Grant replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
100%. Nick Foles this season is a great example of how different a QB can look when he's in a system that is customized to their skillset. Compare that to how Foles performed with Jeff Fisher's Rams. For the most part, Tyrod's OCs were more similar to Jeff Fisher's than to Doug Pederson's. Now that the Browns have Todd Haley as OC, I wouldn't be shocked to see Tyrod do well in Cleveland, and considering how annoying the Steelers are, I'd be very happy to see Tyrod & the Browns do well. EDIT — I also think 2015 was Tyrod's best season because we had both Sammy & Percy Harvin (for a little bit anyway)... basically, TT's game works when he has speedy downfield WRs. In 2016, he had fewer WRs like that. In 2017, even fewer still. It makes a difference. -
Could Hughes be next? $10.4 mil cap
LA Grant replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully because they intend to beef up the front 7 with better players. Besides QB, our weakest area is probably DL/LB. Lawson was next to useless last season, so whatever you can get for his potential is worth it. I think Hughes' most productive days may be behind him, or at least, what he brings is no longer outweighing his cost. I'm not saying we should bet the future on Yarborough, I'm saying that a guy like that was about as productive as Hughes/Lawson, if not moreso; therefore Hughes/Lawson are replaceable. -
Was The Tyrod Taylor Era a Success?

Exactly this. We never had the opportunity to see Tyrod with consistent receivers in a scheme that emphasized his skillset. It just didn't happen. The stats for the 15 games Tyrod when had both Sammy & Woods were both on the field are craaaaazy good. Bad luck or whatever you want to call it, but in all 3 seasons of the Tyrod era, the Bills were never able to consistently field their top two WRs. That makes a difference. On top of that, he was always in conservative run-first offenses, with a short leash. "Don't turn the ballover" was the stated goal, and expectations were low. He was the best option at the moment, but never considered to be a long-term answer by either Front Office he played for. I get that these sound like "excuses" to people who don't like Tyrod, but it's not "excusing" anything. It's giving context for what the starting QB had to deal with in those 3 seasons. I can't imagine anyone hopes for the same circumstances for the Bills' next QB. Bottom line — Tyrod was the QB who ended the drought. People can choose to give him credit or not, but he was the QB... maybe Kirk Cousins on last year's team puts up more passing yards, but he probably also throws more picks, and who knows if they're able to win the same amount of games or better? -

Wouldn't surprise me to see both traded, at this point. Neither of them outperformed Eddie Yarborough last season IIRC... get what you can from them, replace them with rookies/cheaper UFAs. -
I think this is all about getting to the Browns 4th overall pick, or maybe the Colts 3rd overall. If they throw in one of our 2nd rounders, or even both, that would be enough to get to... well, whoever in the top 3 wants to cut a deal. Any of them could be viable. I keep seeing speculation for the Giants but I think it would be very unwise of them to not take advantage of having 2 overall, when they'll have their choice of either Barkley or Darnold. Our extras in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are basically luxury picks, in a sense. If Bills trade both 1sts & 2nds to get to the top of the 1st round, all you are really losing out on is choosing in the 2nd round. That is totally worth it, and a much better way of wheeling&dealing than giving up "next year's 1st" to move up for Sammy Watkins.

Yeah, Stern is... whatever. If you like that style with less rhetoric, Bill Burr's podcast is pretty solid. Now that we're just talking radio/podcasts, I mean, there's so many good ones out there now but one that I think deserves to be way more popular is What A Hell Of A Way To Die. They're younger military guys, left but moderately so, and they're funny with some good stories on their experiences. Not political at all but another great, hilarious podcast that should be more popular — Doughboys. It's two guys (one liberal, one conservative) who review fast food/chain restaurants as seriously as food critics review the snobbier places. They're really funny, but they're also serious about their opinions. You'll find yourself listening and thinking "what they just said is nonsense, Wendy's fries are not better than Burger King's. I didn't think I had this opinion but apparently I do." It's one of the better podcasts for when you're tired of thinking about society/politics/football and just want... well, junk food. For straight-up news, one last time for the back of the room — the best in the game is The Daily.

Nice. Pod Save America is funny & good, but it is quite partisan, just so you know. The Daily is more of a straight-forward reporting that bends over backwards to show both sides. (I'm not being paid to endorse the Times here, I just think they are doing high-quality work).
-
? Seriously though, Boyst — I highly recommend a print subscription (if you don't already) & The Daily is a half-hour podcast version exploring the day's top story. Add one of those & then still get your other news from everywhere else. Part of a balanced reading diet.

What is better, no guns, or more guns?
LA Grant replied to Security's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Obviously more guns are the only way to prevent shootings. Can you imagine how many more shootings there would be if we had fewer guns? Unimaginable! -
So far the extent of PPP's reading seems to be... —books for middle schoolers; Orwell of course —fake joke books that originated from Milo Yiannapolis —Trump books —Ann Coulter, Ben Shapiro, Michael Savage Yeah. That tracks from what I've seen. ? Here's my recommendation for anyone who doesn't already do this: get a print subscription to the New York Times to balance out everything else you're getting from cable, Federalist, American Thinker, and Facebook. Or if you can't spare the 25 cents per day, keep up with The Daily. You'll at least have a baseline to work off of when adding the rest.

Taking his name down doesn't diminish the wall. If anything, his name still being up there diminishes the others on the "Wall of Fame" who haven't spent the majority of their non-football life being most famous for being a murderer and pariah. Also. Who cares. It's not the Ten Commandments, it's names on a wall next to logos for Dunn Tire and Labatts. Yes, it is an honor to have your name displayed in a stadium for your achievements. OJ Simpson was the best football player in franchise history, but taking his name down doesn't mean the games weren't played. It means he doesn't continue to receive passive endorsements of honor from the organization. Take his name down, or put an asterisk next to it & the list of crimes he's been tried for right beneath.

3rd Teir Bridge QB do u prefer
LA Grant replied to NastyNateSoldiers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This. I'd also say McCown because he's less likely to be considered any kind of potential long-term answer and would come on a 1 year deal. -
Well done. If you're also right about Darnold, you need to start sharing lottery numbers.

Same prize as all sports fandom — Bragging rights. It ain't that much effort! Just a match game.

Oh god, if we go into next season with Mike Glennon & Nate Peterman, with all this draft capital.... there's going to be riots, lol. Oh yeah, oops. Assuming the Cousins rumors don't pan out (I don't think they will but obviously could be wrong), I think they go with Bridgewater + mid-round QB + McCarron or Glennon. Browns --> Darnold Bills -- > Rosen + McCown Broncos --> Keenum + Allen Jets ---> Cousins Dolphins ---> Mayfield Cardinals --> Jackson + Bradford Nice job predicting Tyrod to the Browns!

OPINION: We have a trade partner in place
LA Grant replied to McBean's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The nice thing about having 4 picks in the top 2 rounds though, is half of those are luxury picks, in a sense. You could frame it like just trading your 1st & 2nd round picks to get up to a top spot; the additional ammunition is just what makes it possible. Once you have your franchise QB, then you get into the rhythm of habitually trading down, bc you will always need guys on rookie deals to fill roles to account for eventually having to pay your QB. -
Simple poll: Who starts Week 1?

hmm well I was just introducing the other viable possibility, a trade, wasn't really thinking about D as in d*cks. But... thanks for letting us know what's on your mind when talking QBs ? -
Simple poll: Who starts Week 1?
LA Grant replied to The Bills Blog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
C, B, with A as a distant third is most likely outcome, IMO Edit — If they are unable to draft a guy they like in Round 1, they might trade some picks to land Foles, and take a QB with the Browns pick in round 3. Call it option D. C, B, D, A. -
Is Josh Rosen really the QB that the Bills covet?
LA Grant replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
HOPEFULLY... the noise around Rosen means that he drops to a place where the Bills can trade up to get him. The only team I'm really worried about nabbing him is the Giants at 2. My prediction is the Browns (foolishly) pass on Barkley to take Darnold 1st overall, then the Giants will take Barkley. The Colts could trade down, they appear to be open to that. They could also potentially draft Rosen at 3... hard to predict. Usually Indy makes boneheaded decisions, but with Reich there now, they may be less likely to make the dumb choice. I'll tell you if I'm the Colts, I would take a QB here, because you don't know what's happening with Andrew Luck. It's kind of like the Chargers situation when they had Drew Brees but drafted Rivers — draft the guy because you can, and then you can always trade away the one you like less. But it's anybody's guess what they are thinking. The Browns at 4 look like the best potential trade partner to ensure the Bills get their guy, or perhaps the Bucs at 7. Two good op-eds re: NFL being skittish on Rosen — which could be fortunate for the Bills. https://theundefeated.com/features/josh-rosen-ucla-quarterback-gets-a-taste-of-what-outspoken-black-athletes-experience-all-the-time/ https://deadspin.com/josh-rosen-is-allowed-to-have-opinions-1823588151 This mock draft is what I think is most likely, except I think the Bills trade to 4 instead of the Dolphins, and the Browns will take Darnold at 1 instead of Allen. The Tyrod trade paves the path with Cleveland, IMO. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2018-nfl-mock-draft-dolphins-trade-up-for-josh-rosen-two-freak-defenders-go-in-top-10/ Either way I would be very very surprised if Cleveland stays at both 1 and 4. -
Is Josh Rosen really the QB that the Bills covet?
LA Grant replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right. But IMO the problem isn't Rosen being "too smart" it's that football GMs/coaches are scared of being questioned, I think. Rosen isn't unmanageable by any stretch. Y'know, there was the thing of Trent Dilfer whining when Rosen questioned him at one of his camps. To me, it's ridiculous. Dilfer was saying you need to run this play no matter what, and Rosen was saying "but it doesn't make sense for what the defense is showing; the play should be changed." Teams should want that. Peyton Manning would question coaches, and his football smarts were what made him successful more than anything else. You want a QB to have confidence & be somewhat headstrong. The flip side is someone like EJ Manuel, the perfect example of what GMs/coaches/scouts tend to fall for in their evaluations — he will do whatever you ask without question, he's got the right size, and a great arm. But that isn't what leads to success in the NFL. QBs, like Brady/Manning, need to be able to read defenses & adjust on the fly + be consistently accurate. That is Rosen more than any of the others. But... I don't know anything. This is just IMO. Nobody knows what's going to happen. We're all just speculating. The QB carousel could go in so many different directions at this point.
