I remember that game well. Not fondly, but well. We were in Boston on a work/pleasure trip and we met an old friend for lunch downtown at Ye Old Union Oyster House (est. 1826). I had a fried clam sandwich, and it seems the clams had been hanging around since the grand opening. A few hours later I had a rumbling in my tummy, but my wife’s co-worker was going to treat us to his favorite restaurant in Boston, on the bank, so I kept going. It was in a beautiful old white house away from the city. I remember going in and ordering ginger ale. It’s all I could handle, and just barely. I remember laying on the floor in the bathroom, and that is never good. I wanted them to enjoy the evening, so the maitre de got a taxi to get me back to the hotel. The driver realized how sick I was and tried to drop me off at a different hotel, ANY hotel, to get me out of his car before something terrible happened. 🤢 🤮 or worse I refused to get out, he got me to my hotel, and I listened to that basketball game from the cool tile of the bathroom floor of my hotel room. What a night! Good times! 😂

I only get poked if I choose to get poked. I don’t see this as changing my habits at all. I’m not emotional about it, but it will just be a bit more expensive.

We were out to dinner with friends and got home early second half. I’ve been wanting to tap the brakes on UConn, but it’s hard to do seeing this. But as we know, they play the games for a reason!

OK, I’m not trying to jinx anything, but TODAY does not look like the day that UConn will be beat. WOW! And I watch BE hoops. Last May we flew into Florence, Italy on a small plane filled mostly with college girls. Popular destination for college girls for some reason. 🤷‍♂️ A couple girls are wearing UConn gear so we start talking. I tell them Xavier beat them 3 times that year, but lost in the Sweet 16. UConn won the ones that counted, like our Bills will be doing soon!!!

Add in all the streaming services they want to force you to have, and they are losing me to some degree. It’s not even about the money to me, it’s the way they have gone about it. I’m still a Bills fan, but I’m caring less and less for the NFL every year. It’s a bit like college basketball to me. I don’t mind players having freedom to transfer via the portal or get paid for NIL. That seems fair enough to me. Unfortunately, the resulting product is something I care significantly less about.

The cost to the STH does not really bother me very much, since you have an option not to pay. The NFL is a business, and like Disney it does not surprise me when they look for new ways to generate more revenue. I find it sad that some people will be priced out, but I don’t think “greed” is the correct term for what’s happening there. If I own Disney stock, and they are not trying to increase profits I’m going to be upset. That is why they exist. They will push the envelope and charge as much as the market allows. What DOES bother me a LOT is when the NFL compromises the integrity of the game in the quest for more money. The Bills playing a “home game” in front of all the Jax fans in London that have been carefully cultivated since 2013 bothers me. Home field matters, that’s why you fight all season to have it in the playoffs. They have created an un-level playing field for the sake of more revenue. That is inexcusable. (Don’t even get me started on the “jet lag experiment” or the crap field.) The Jags should never be the road team in London, their second home. Things like two Christmas Day games, on a WEDNESDAY, is going to present issues regarding physical recovery and preparation in the weeks surrounding those games as well as on Christmas Day. This isn’t Covid where they are just trying to keep things going. This was a conscious decision, all in the name of money. . If they don’t care about the integrity of the game, I guess I care a little less about the game too.

I’m not really good with presents and prizes and stuff, but I have a truckload of used dog food in my back yard. 😋

This guy made more money off of one play where he was completely unblocked in college than any other player I can recall. He is, or at least was, not much more than a solid player.

RIP Ralph and I had a rather close relationship. I was back in WNY for a game and having dinner at the Creekview restaurant on Main St in Williamsville. I go to the men’s room just as he’s coming out of the door not paying attention (it’s a bit tight, if you’ve ever been there). I think the close call startled us both just a little bit. The next day I go into the stadium early when crowds are still light, and I almost get run over on the concourse by this little Pope-Mobile thing with Ralph inside! I don’t know if he grabbed the wheel and aimed at me or just ordered the driver! (It was actually rather close!) I would have picked up their dinner tab if I could have, but he was on his way out. It may sound silly paying for a billionaire’s dinner, but to me it was the gesture that counted. For all the people who say Ralph is cheap, I say what he saved, he gave to important charities in his home towns. So, there’s that…..
