  1. This isn't meant as a gotcha question because I was and I remain Marrone/Hackett agnostic: were you pulling for him out of Syracuse in 2013?

And I'll pull for whoever they hire.

I think the problem fans had with Marrone goes to back to the crap Brandon and even Marrone fed the fans themselves about innovative this and cutting edge that at Marrone's introductory PC

I don't believe that's why they hired him. I think they liked the 'total package' and the one thing everyone is skipping over from that PC was Brandon saying his ability to rebuild Syracuse from the ashes was very important. Essentially, that he's a leader. Or at least they saw something that said this guy can be a head man in this league. He wasn't hired bc of offense or defense it was bc he could lead. I guess.

I think snake oil salesman Brandons crap about cutting edge was just for the media and the fans....his comments were worthless.

  2.

the Seahawks won last year and are ready to repeat, and the are as innovative as it gets. they continue to run some read option behind their zone blocking schemes, and this year Carroll added Malzahn's POP (play option pass) to the read option - and it's killer.

i get the idea of having a smash mouth running game with a vertical passing game - but the two aren't mutually exclusive. they are complimetary.

Yes I get all of that. Which is why I like Bevell. These guys all share their ideas/concepts.

The 2012 Skins ran it very well. But the oline went to heck in a hand basket and RGIII got hurt----which is why I'd hate to have it as the feature of my O bc you have to hope your running QB stays on the field. Which Wilson has. Plus he does not turn the ball over.

No need to go combing through college to do this

  3. Get me a head man that understands how to hire good assistants, works well with his GM (I don't mean agree with him on everything, but understands how to work with people), can evaluate talent and what fits the system--and get players to buy into it. And understands you build from the TRENCHES first. This is timeless in the NFL.

I've just about had it with all this crap about innovative and cutting edge.

  4. I recall calling for these "hot shot" or "innovate" guys going back to the 90s.

Pete Carroll failed miserably his first time and he's a "D" guy anyway.

    Spurrier was coveted too.

    Nick freaking Saban failed.

    Petrino.

    Dennis Erickson.

    Butch Davis.

    Switzer.

Just off the top of my head.

And apparently there's problems in Philly with the GM and coach?

    It's just not this simple.

  5. How responsible for Russell Wilson's development is he and do you think he can do/run the same scheme with EJ?

Any coach that takes this job will be doing so with only EJ on the roster. And while I'm pretty convinced only a guy with a D pedigree will take the job, the one O guy at the top of my list is him. So he'd have to have SOME idea with what he could do with EJ.

And I fully expect him to not be available till February as I think they're going back to the SB. This could be a problem. ...but I don't think so. Pegula can use the time to get things in order (fire Brandon immediately, get a team president).

  6. If Marrone doesn't opt out he's an idiot.

His 'value' may not be any higher than it is now. No not Beli-checkian but he is highly regarded and all he'd have to do is show tape of EJ Thad Tuel and the semi and then almost fully retired Orton and say despite that we improved overall won 9 games almost made the playoffs---- and I hired well (especially on D...only on D really) and my teams play all 60 and played every game. Or something.

And if he does leave I think it's really bad. Potentially.

Who the heck are you attracting for this job by saying we have a crap offense, no QB, and no 1st round pick? You interested?

You'll get a defensive guy only. Bc our D is nasty. And he can always fire his OC and claim that's not his forte since apparently that's how we evaluate head coaches now. Only their half of the ball.

  7. If your QB starts from day 1 you can't coach him to not take the risky throw. If you have to do that then he should be sitting and learning. I think it was the plan til he outperformed Kolb.

Then they had no choice. But gave him a crap oline and no running game.

The recipe for disaster for a young QB.

I'm willing to give him a shot. But it better be with a Foles or Nassib or Derek Anderson or Matt Moore and the rookie we're sure to draft.

My draft will look something like:

    QB/Center/Guard/QB/Guard/RB/Guard

  8. This started in week 1!!

Schopp did not know how to handle us beating the Bears. I remember that post game plain as day. His precious Super Bowl pick coached by supposed cutting edge offensive innovator and liberator of us from all things boring and 'conservative' just got beat by a QB and team he spent all summer bashing.

The media in Buffalo couldn't handle this. We had no chance, remember?

  9. This was the QB I wanted in that draft.

    They passed.

And have been wrong on each choice since. So I'm guessing there might be something here.

Maybe in the aftermath of the Wilson/Kap debut mania they thought EJ was that guy. Not bc they think Nassib can't cut it. They just felt they were set and didn't want to 'waste' a pick.

  10. It's like you're formulating an argument against a team that traded up for Beckham, thinking that he is the only great WR in the draft. Unfortunately here on planet earth, team with known commodity of crap at QB did that for Sammy. So ya know, quibbling about schedules is incredibly weak.

And the d-bags in the Buffalo media trolling over the trade is incredibly weak too. The same clowns who thought at one point Manziel should be the pick.

What makes this even more ridiculous is that it's trolling over who the better WR is. Like we passed on Manning to take Leaf. Like we had a shot at a franchise QB and blew it. Such a joke. They've gotten to the point the organization can do nothing right and it's incredibly annoying.

And their whining is weak bc essentially it's like we missed out on Julio Jones........but got Dez Bryant. Who played through 2 pretty tough injuries, 1 awful quarterback, and another he never met til late August.

Traded the 20th pick this year to do it a mistake? Yea I'm gonna bet we won't be missing out on much.

  11. Jacksonville Tennessee Washington St Louis and Philly is who Beckham has played in his last 5 games. How nice.

Sammy has played pretty much every top pass D in the league....Revis twice and the Dolphins (very good pass D) also twice...

    With garbage QB play.

Beckham is great. He's going to be.

Pretty confident that Sammy is too. It's a nice luxury that one of them has a 2 time super bowl QB throwing him the ball in a dam good offense run by an actual NFL OC.

Cleveland can have and blow the 20th pick.

  12. I am sick and tired of people complaining about schopp and the bulldog and not telling us what they don't like about them. I happen to think they're pretty good. They have to talk about sports 20+ hours a week in a 2 sport town. I can assure you that the drive time guys in Denver are both less knowledgeable and more annoying than schopp and the bulldog. Without listening let me guess- he is not enthused about the win and he can't believe marrone punted on that 4th and 1. Do you disagree with him?

Insufferable hypocritical ignorant of the most important sport to Buffalo fans (he admits football isn't his game and it's showing) who has gotten worse because he caught 'snark disease' from the twitter verse. Example (since u need these bc apparently 80 percent of Buffalo fans hating them isn't enough) his 1st post game tweet to introduce the show was to fawn over Beckham to insinuate that we screwed up.

    We get it Mike. Prick.

    He's garbage.

  13. Nothing but offensive linemen and QB at the draft.

I really believe we can find a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round with a massive chip on his shoulder like a Wilson.....so many teams set at QB. There has to be somebody.

    Teams desperate/will take QB early:

    Bucs

    Jets

    Texans

    Titans--word is they want Cutler

That's the list. Which could also....if there are teams looking to move a QB lower the cost.

  14. He's average.

A tremendous leader. Who loves Buffalo and gets what it means to play here. What sickens me is the trashing of him like this...but we want Cutler. Ridiculous. Relax. Almost all of the linemen have regressed under Morris and Marrone. The scheme sucks. The coaching sucks.

I said it before in another thread tho. If we identify a sure fire center...Wood gets moved to Guard. He's played it before. Didn't the Dolphins move Pouncey? That line became one of the best in the league.

  15. That we are the easiest team to scheme against?

    Other teams D game plan:

D line just penetrate. They can't run block worth squat and the lead back is 45 years old.

Don't worry about screens...especially bubble screens to WRs.

We can run stunt after stunt..they can't handle it. 79 and 60 are cones. Enjoy your afternoon DTs.

Watkins is good but don't sweat him too much.... they throw 40 times a game but only 5 of them are to him. Their coach once said he doesn't like to center things around one guy. *chuckles* They traded a 2015 first for that *more chuckles*

The other 35 passes are mostly arrow routes to the RB or TE. They have their slot guy. He would have 120 catches a year with Manning....but...again *chuckles*

The biggest thing we can take advantage of is we know that OC over there doesn't like to get toooooo risky bc he wants his defense to save his bacon. We can use that.

We can also gamble like crazy bc the QB is as mobile as your grandmother.
