I'm not a hawk, but Russia will never be on our side against China, and if China moves on Taiwan, we will need to go to war and it's that simple.

The behavior coming from the Pentagon and the DOD lately tells me they know it's happening - within the next 5 years is my guess.  Max.

Wonder how that guest lecture went on how awesome Chinese socialism actually is at the National Defense University.

  2. Question to the war hawks

When China moves on Taiwan, would you rather have Russia on our side - or would you rather completely sever any potential relationship with them over Ukraine.

I know what future I'd prefer and it's the one where Xi and his fascist thugs aren't island hopping their way across the pacific.

But maybe I should be like most and see only 5 minutes in front of my face

China is the biggest threat on the planet.  It is the enemy to every freedom you've mocked for 2 years.

  3. Mid term variant

Don't worry Covidians.  Every flu/covid/cold season they'll tell you to put them back on. Definitely after the election tho.

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration will significantly loosen federal mask-wearing guidelines to protect against COVID-19 transmission on Friday, according to two people familiar with the matter, meaning most Americans will no longer be advised to wear masks in indoor public settings.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday will announce a change to the metrics it uses to determine whether to recommend face coverings, shifting from looking at COVID-19 case counts to a more holistic view of risk from the coronavirus to a community. Under current guidelines, masks are recommended for people residing in communities of substantial or high transmission — roughly 95% of U.S. counties, according to the latest data.

The new metrics will still consider caseloads, but also take into account hospitalizations and local hospital capacity, which have been markedly improved during the emergence of the omicron variant. That strain is highly transmissible, but indications are that it is less severe than earlier strains, particularly for people who are fully vaccinated and boosted. Under the new guidelines, the vast majority of Americans will no longer live in areas where indoor masking in public is recommended, based on current data.

Putin is walking a tightrope between proving he's a tough guy to his oligarch friends, and getting all of their billions they've siphoned from the Russian people confiscated here in the west where they've stashed it.

They all know how this plays out.

Russia doesn't lose a thing in going in they only benefit even if not 1 mile of Ukraine becomes theirs.

Putin claims victory at home.  Strong man strong armed the pajama boys in the West.

Biden and his media sycophants will tell you he averted WWIII.

    Right right.

  5. The "democracy" we're being asked to fight for:  The 9th most corrupt in the world.......

    Ukraine’s choice: corruption or growth

Since it regained independence in 1991, Ukraine has exhibited systematic economic under-performance. The main driver behind this thirty-year record of disappointing growth is bad governance and, more specifically, corruption.

During his May 2021 visit to Kyiv, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken repeatedly called corruption the main enemy of the Ukrainian economy. It is hard to argue with this assessment. Corruption erodes the effectiveness of all government institutions and the state itself.

According to former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili, who currently heads Ukraine’s National Reform Council, the Ukrainian state budget loses over USD 37 billion every year due to corruption. This figure is close to a quarter of Ukraine’s annual GDP of USD 153.8 billion in 2019.

Many sectors of the Ukrainian economy are dominated by monopolies. The best solution here is to introduce effective competition. There are very few natural monopolies, meaning industries in which high startup and other infrastructure costs, significant economies of scale relative to the size of the market, and other unavoidable barriers to entry make for a single provider of a good or service in an industry or location. Opening up fully to competition from the EU is in many instances the best solution here, including for the energy sector. Where appropriate, unnatural monopolies can be broken up or unbundled by the regulator.

Too many Ukrainian enterprises are state-owned. State ownership should be restricted to firms that produce pure public goods or services.

    Nice thread.

Putin starts a war. Posters here attack the president.

I haven't seen anyone attack the CDC or its Vice President Science over this.

It would be just as insane as attacking the president over not being able to stop an aersolized virus man made in China.

The result of which led to that actual president who didn't see this type of foreign aggression under his watch, removed from office.

This situation here with Russia is totally out of our control.  Nothing could have been done.

And no one would be stupid enough to tell you they would

I get it.  You're very conservative, and very anti-war.  I'd love to know why, obviously you don't have to explain if you don't want to.

I'm not against war.  I don't trust the people in charge.  I don't trust them at all.  They shouldn't even be there.

This shouldn't be happening and the voters here better get their s**t together and figure out why.  How after Covid we all aren't on the same page after lie after lie after lie after ruining kids lives (oh but they're fine) is beyond me.

I live among too many people that think we're to blame for the evils of the world.  I cannot relate to that.  As if the other nations of the world are good, pure, and meant no harm to anyone.  They weren't corrupt.  They meant no one any harm ever.  No, we've been the bad guy.

I'm all for learning from what we've done wrong - but that's different then thinking you're the bad guy.  That our system is racist and sucks.

This is not the kind of people let alone having them in charge I want my children to grow up in.  We're supposed to leave this place better off after we're done here for them.  For 2 years I've seen things I'm not going to say are stunning bc I saw it coming in 2008, but completely disheartened by how many buy the crap sold to them.

    Um what?

The treaty allowed the US (and others who signed on) to fly over Ukraine and western Russia and provided enormous data points on the Russian military.

Who also benefited from this treaty?

    UKRAINE!

    Crimea says hi

Well, George Washington had to put down two rebellions during his presidency.  John Adams had to put down one as well, but he pardoned everybody of their treason instead of hanging them for it.  FDR had it pretty rough too, but he came out alright in the end.

Seriously, why all the doom posting in this thread?

    Seriously?

Deep down I have this feeling they want a conflict/war and they're going to get it.

Why did we do that?  Was Russia respecting the treaty?

    I'll hang up and listen.

Hi Bill, we can fact check your bull ***t:

So, why did the US leave the Open Skies Treaty?

While it was envisaged as a key arms control agreement, many in Washington had for over a decade accused Russia of non-compliance with OST protocols, blaming Moscow of obstructing surveillance flights on its territory, while misusing its own missions for gathering key tactical data.

As per a report in The New York Times, US President Donald Trump was also unhappy that a Russian reconnaissance flew over his golf course in New Jersey state in 2017.

In May 2020, the Trump administration announced its intention of withdrawing from the OST, accusing Russia of “flagrantly and continuously violating the Treaty in various ways for years”, and left it in November that year.

Why did Russia leave after the US?

A contentious issue regarding Russia’s compliance with the OST was its alleged reluctance to allow flights over Kaliningrad, its exclave in Eastern Europe that sits between NATO allies Lithuania and Poland. Russia defended its position by saying that the restrictions were permissible under treaty rules, and gave the example of the US imposing similar limits on flights over Alaska.

After the US left the OST, Russia sought assurances from NATO allies who continued to remain on the treaty that they would not transfer data collected by their flights over Russia to Washington. In its statement, Russia said that these requests were not backed by the NATO members, prompting it to leave the treaty

No lie. LMAO!  No, Ingraham mentioned that Russia had launched an amphibious assault and Trump thought she said America did. She corrected him and he realized he heard wrong.

Pathetic. More of the same “no lies.”

    I saw that to live.

    This is incredible.

Everything they told us Trump was going to do, all their fear mongering and collusion! cries, it's all happening under China's puppet and Putin's b***h.

I don't think there has been an election of a president in our history where things went so bad so quickly literally everywhere.

Remember when it used to be "The Buck Stops Here"

Now if you blame this administration's poor response, you get questioned by the passerby's as to why you're doing a "big partisan exercise."

    Yep

You want your President to oversee stability overseas and security and prosperity at home.

Self inflicted disaster it took Biden all of 12 months to watch legit everything turn to s***
