  1. Something is Definitely Up with Christmas should be the name of a holiday movie.
  2. Depends which conference that San Diego school is in. Is it the one where Steve Fisher is or was the hoops coach or the one that Jim Harbaugh was the football coach?
  3. That doesn't tell the story. At least the part that I could read.............How could he be a free agent, when free agency didn't begin until the 1990s? Except somehow Simmons said there was one year in the 1970s that it happened when Riggins went to the Skins. Were the Bills stupid enough to just cut him and not get anything in return?
  4. Yeah, I thought they were going to the Super Bowl that year. They were I think 4-0 until that disastrous MNF game vs. Giants with the guy on the high wire! They still should have made the playoffs, but for that horrible Mercury Morris call. I was wondering this lately. How did Rashad leave? It was like he was a free agent before free agency?............But, then I read Bill Simmons the other day talk about the Jets bad luck, which included John Riggins leaving via free agency the one and only year that there was free agency back then. Anybody remember how this went down?
  5. So, the four university centers all use the "at?" I always figured that it was named University at Buffalo, because even though it was SUNY Buffalo and I used to see it called SUNYAB meaning at for years, everybody in WNY still called it UB (because if was the University of Buffalo as a private university up until about 1962. Much like I still call the stadium Rich Stadium). So, I figured SUNY just said OK, if they're going to call it UB, then we'll make it University at Buffalo, so at least it'll be right. That is not what happened?
  6. I know this is a late post, but the Buffalo News seemed to be up against deadline with the Sunday paper, and the article was more about the first half than the 2nd............What was said about that final possession. What was that kid thinking? I went to SU for my MBA, but I'm 100x a fan of Bona, my alma mater. They ended the NCAAs last year the same way. Kid taking a 2 when they needed three..............And, something that nobody seemed to mention anywhere, at least where I was looking, was that Hardaway traveled when he came down with that rebound - before he flipped it upcourt. Did they say anything about that in the Syracuse papers........SU should have had one last shot with plenty of time - 6 seconds or so.
  7. That offense was just stacked in 1974. My favorite game growing up was the season opener that year on MNF against Madden's Raiders who had yet to lose on MNF........OJ gets hurt. Bills score late - Fergy to Rashad, making it 14-13. Somehow the Bills get the ball back (forget how) and Braxton fumbles and Tom Keating (I think) runs it in for a touchdown. Now it's 20-14 really late, and tons of people leave the stadium. But, not my father and us kids............Fergy leads them down the field again, and I can still see Ahmad Rashad's move on Willie Brown to win the game 21-20. What a game, and what a great offense that was!
  8. Yeah, I was going to say that. I always figured that is why Penn State is the flagship for PA. Since U of Pennsylvania was already taken? I was thinking, while reading this, that it wouldn't be UB or Buffalo people who would or should have a problem with it. (I think it's a great idea and thought it was when Golisano first brought it up), but the 3 other university centers of SUNY might have a problem with UB being the flagship!
  9. On the subject of Bob D., I don't know a lot about college hockey. When Niagara switched conferences, Bob D had a column that blasted their administration. He said they had the opporunity to be a top program and threw it away, going to this lesser conference etc.............So, I figured that was that...........And, then this year, Niagara is ranked most of the year and makes the NCAA as an at large, and Bob D. covered the tournament. What was he talking about 3-4 years ago?
  10. Don't post anymore. You're at 4000 even. We do not even want to think about a running back during the draft, and definitely not Lattimore.
  11. I don't think Edie Brickell is on Paul Simon's top ten list..
  12. How many chicks are on your top ten list?
  13. The swimming naked thing is so weird to look back on, but I remember that's what it was for day camp. They claimed it was some sort of health code! What in the !@#$?!? We didn't have a gym in school or I'm sure it would have been the same rules.
  14. I was hoping the Bills would win a Super Bowl! Life has not changed much.
  15. Good thing he didn't use the line before it: Early morning, April 4 He was shot at dinner time. Bono later was like WTF was I thinking - I thought it was the morning for some reason!
  16. I was a basketball player, not a football player.............But, the things that the football coaches did to the players at my high school (late 70s) made this look like absolutely nothing. Was that an old school thing, a football thing, or should they have been kicked out of coaching, as well? They won a lot of games and championships. And, the players pretty much loved them, or at least liked them. I don't remember any players not liking them.
  17. Yeah, I forgot about that. They might have even called it the Oklahoma defense. Or else my mind is playing tricks on me...........it's so weird how your perception of age is at different stages in your life. When he coached OU, esp. in that game of the century vs. Nebraska, he was still in his 30s yet to me he seemed like an old guy. (As I was preteen)
  18. He also played on George Allen's Over the Hill Gang teams with the Redskins..........It must have been pointed out during the Comeback game era, but I would think Marv must have been on the coaching staff when he played. I wonder why the Over the Hill idea worked for Allen, but not for the Dan Snyder Redskins of Bruce, Deion, etc.
  19. As a Bona fan, Hurley scares me. I want us to be the go to team for players from Toronto, who want to stay close to home. But, Reggie did, too. I knew he had a great personality and I thought he would recruit great at UB.
  20. That has to be it. I remember when I had those shin splints and read that article, I was thinking that it was going to happen to me......My teammates said that I was ridiculous. Luckily, I could never jump very high anyway! So, as Jim said, it's weird for an athlete to have such brittle bones, but really it's because of being an athlete that makes them brittle in certain areas.
  21. I was thinking about this and then it hit me. I remember an SI article that talked about stress fractures and hot zones. It actually had a picture of Sam Bouie with his leg having basically two knees as he landed. Not as horrible an angle as yesterday, but still ugly. It was probably around 1987, because I had really bad shin splints from playing hoops just about every day, in several leagues, etc. What it said was that shin splints is symptom of these hot spots, and the bone is getting weaker in that area, and may even have a stress fracture that you don't know about. I'll bet anything that he was having shin splints, and maybe even a stress fracture before the jump. It's like Derek Jeter last year. He was having so many problems with the ankle, hit it several times with the ball, was limping, etc. and then a routine grounder comes to him and he doesn't do anything abnormal but the ankle finally breaks.
