  1. Agree that a healthy Miller is huge. That helped Oliver’s game. Well, he helped everyone’s game. Getting pressure consistently with four - or even three at times - is huge for defenses. That can be the best way to slow down great QBs.
  2. So what’s your plan? If the Bills cut him they still have to pay him. His salary would still count against the cap. See below for an unlikely possibility, but a possibility nonetheless. Other than trading him during the season to a desperate team, your scenario really is the only other possibility. Maybe a team like Chicago would flip late round picks and take him. The real risk in that course of action is that Oliver would have to know that we are trying to trade him because his agent would have to work out that new contract. That could lead to some big problems if we can’t work out a trade. We could wind up having to eat some of his salary just to get him off the team. Personally I’d rather seem him here this season than give him away for next to nothing. He’s a good player even if he hasn’t lived up to his draft slot.
  3. Oliver is playing on his fully guaranteed fifth year option worth $10.75M this season. They could try to trade him, but I don’t see any teams wanting him with that contract. Maybe if one has an injury during the season but before the trade deadline.
  4. That is an impressive list. Thanks for sharing the posts and info! No one plays starters in the HOF game anymore so it wouldn’t matter much.
  5. Reid is Mahomes’ big advantage. Both only have one good receiving option this season. KC has a better OL. Neither have anyone special at RB. The Bills had a better defense when everyone was healthy, but not by the end of the season. Mahomes and the Chiefs, of course, have achieved more. There’s also Burrow and Hurts to consider. Take out Hurts and you have the obvious top 3 IMO. I think the determining factor for me would be okay down the stretch. Allen stumbled by trying to do too much on too many plays. The other two did not falter the same way. I still have Mahomes over Burrow. He did more with a lot less receiving help. So it eems to me like he deserved it. He’s still the best player at the toughest position on the field. If Allen takes the plays the defenses give him and gets some help from Dorsey and Beane he could win MVP multiple times in years to come.
  6. Great question. He’s an absolute stud DE when healthy. Some team will roll the dice if the price is at all reasonable.
  7. Im genuinely sorry if I came off like in a mean way. They wasn’t my intention. I was posting when I was taking breaks at work so some were quick.
  8. Cash spent = Cap hit (sooner or later)
  9. I don’t understand Frazier’s comment. The defense the Bills played did nothing to make Burrow hold the ball. Quite the opposite. In any case, personnel and what they can accomplish can always be subverted by poor coaching. That’s a different problem and conversation. One that I think we both agree exists.
  10. No. Look at the details of the Roquon contract. He has guarantees for the first $60M, which is paid over the first three seasons. $15M of the $60M cap hit is delayed, but it is still on the books. If they part ways with him after the first three seasons that additional $15M hits the cap. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/roquan-smith-25103/
  11. The DBs could’ve played more aggressively if they could’ve counted on the DL pressuring Burrow. We also would not have had to blitz nearly as much (not that it did a lot of good). Would’ve likely been a different defense played if the DL could’ve gotten pressure. Lack of production from the other players he brought in led to needing to make a move like Von Miller. There is certainly blame to be laid on Beane and the coaching staff that they were in that position.
  12. It has to do with the comment about getting out after three seasons and contract structure. Some contracts ramp up salaries and cash payouts over the course of the deal. Others give more cash up front or pay it out more evenly. The Roquon deal is very even and has an AAV of $20M. The three year out will be $60M. That’s a lot less palatable than a backloaded deal that ramps up where a three year payout could be closer to $50M. Pretty much every 5 or 6 year deal will have relatively low cap hits the first two years, but everything paid (and guaranteed) still has to hit the cap eventually.
  13. I’m not saying that there’s not a whole other issue with the fact that the Bills had to go get Von Miller to fix their pass rush woes. Especially after pouring so many resources into the DL. Just saying that he could’ve made a big difference in that game.
  14. Counter argument: The biggest difference between the defenses KC and the Bills put up against the Bengals was that KC got pressure on Burrow quickly. The impact that one KC player made was largely responsible for that. A healthy Von could’ve done the same for us. I’m not saying there weren’t other issues that day, but he’d have solved one.
  15. The 5/$100M Roquan deal delays the early year cap hits, but the first three seasons pays out $60M, which all has to be accounted for on the cap. The most surprising thing about this is that Edmunds would want this long of a deal. He would be young enough to cash in big again if he did a four year contract now. Maybe the guarantees are worth it (assuming this rumor is accurate.)
  16. If that’s the whole story, then, yes. I can see the network taking this action if she works there, if this had happened before with him and her and/or if it had happened before with him and other women (especially if they were employees or employees of affiliates). That is just speculation, but since she was staying in the same hotel and hotels around there are filled primarily with people working the game it is a decent bet she is working it too.
  17. Tyler Matakevich only had 3 snaps on defense this season. WTF would he be included on Yahoo’s list? Also PFF grades are only worth something when comparing players at the same position. Even then you need some real context around what those players are asked to do.
  18. I just hope he gets his full health back. I doubt many people would play again after going through what he did. I’m sure that many owners, GMs and coaches would not want to put someone who has been through all of that back on the field again either. I don’t know where he stands or where the Bills stand on that, but I expect an abundance of caution.
  19. Yup. Rousseau is a good complimentary DE drafted to fill a need with a cost controlled contract for 4-5 seasons. Not a jersey I’d recommend someone buy.
  20. https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/greg-rousseau This is really worth looking at. Rousseau has some very good attributes and can do some things very well, but he’s never going to have any bend or be good at change of direction.
  21. I find it odd that Spotrac only uses the contract for the cost side of the value equation. They should include draft capital gains for players on their rookie deals.
  22. Not exactly an impressive group as far as OCs. I was thinking more along the lines of a very successful offensive mind who was retired with no interest in a full time coaching gig. Bring that person in as a mentor to Dorsey with the understanding that improvement is needed and he is here to help him grow. My preference would be to see Dorsey replaced, but they doesn’t look like it’s happening this off-season.
  23. Thank you for your insight. I agree that this can be as simple as Dorsey and Allen don’t mesh well. We’ve already seen Allen be successful with another OC and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. So swapping out Dorsey would make a lot of sense to me. If not that, then some help/oversight from an experienced offensive mind in a consultant role should be part of the plan. It will be very disappointing if nothing like that happens.
  24. That was a really good watch. Thanks.
