  1. (it's not an official national anthem, some just call it that) the national anthem is, in part, about war, for years many have thought it was the wrong song to be our Anthem.
  2. Nothing against the idea of playing the song, but it'll just be another song before the game that i don't pay much attention to.
  3. I totally agree, I'll bet some stadium will be totally empty this season.
  4. I'm gonna guess those with confederate flags will comically have an issue with this.
  5. How is NY causing the recent escalation in cases and deaths here in AZ?
  6. Zeke is right. I really don't understand the concern over Allen, he showed tremendous progress through each of his 2 seasons, he has off the chart skill set, great leadership and all the intangibles you want in a QB. I expect him to continue to improve, I see him as a Brett Favre type of player that can carry a team even if he's not on his game that Sunday. Diggs and Moss can only help. This year should be great.
  7. the expectations are high as he is helping to replace a very productive Shaq Lawson. I have been watching some games from last season recently and Shaq was very noticeable out there, making lots of plays. Addison needs to continue to perform at a high level.
  8. sorry if I jumped the gun there. I guess I would wait until a team actually decided to have him in for a tryout before being concerned of bias in his favor. But point taken.
  9. Baseball teams probably have anywhere from 4 to 7 times the amount of fans attending over the course of a season. They stand to lose much more than the NFL with a fanless season. NFL won't have a reason to go to 6 games unless there is a major covid spread among the teams. Baseball owners will lose a lot every game played without fans, that's why they want a short season or probably no season at all.
  10. It's also displayed prominently at football games, so maybe it's also directly tied to football making it very appropriate to kneel.
  11. If the anthem was played 8 minutes before kickoff, how many fans would be in the bathroom, buying food, milling around getting to their seats during the anthem, probably also interpreted as a sign of disrespect.
  12. On the clock sounds pretty stupid to me, the players are paid for the full week of work, not just game time. It would be very restrictive if the owners 'looked at the clock' all the time. But mostly it sounds really stupid to me. not sure what that means anymore, I'm called a snowflake but I couldn't care less about the anthem being played or not. and the business owners are now apparently supporting their employees. So deal with it.
  13. I'm sure all the ***** flexing, super patriots out there will be thrilled that the league cancels the National Anthem.
  14. It used to annoy me when players kneeled during the game or after a TD, Tebow used to drive me nuts because it seemed like he said the whole rosary before he got back up and the networks always showed it. But so what, I had to deal with it and I came aware unharmed. Who really pays attention to the Anthem while watching on TV anyway, most of the time the networks don't even show it, unless some superstar does the singing. And if your so god damned patriotic while at the game, put your hand on your heart and look towards the flag, you won't even notice any of the players.
  15. this 'on the clock' argument has been and continues to be one of the most pathetic ones around.
  16. You might be jumping the gun a bit on that thought. But nice trying to discount him before he even gets another chance. Didn't Randy Moss hit a cop and Belichick still signed him? He had some excellent seasons, led his team to 2 NFC championship games, winning one of them. He's been working out daily for 4 years trying to earn a spot. Just say you don't like him, it's easier than making up lies about him.
  17. I haven't read about this, but has the skimmer been produced? Who has it? What was he attempting to do by 'skimming' the channels. I really don't know what that is.
  18. If there was ever a season that might avoid the media circus , this one may be it. Too much attention on other major issues , no fans, virus concerns with players.... if anyone could keep it under control, I would bet on Belicheck
  19. reasonable people can disagree that social causes and pro sports are a bad mix. That was my reference.
  20. But the point of this part of the thread was the linking between social causes and sports. I stand by the Jackie Robinson example. He had to stand tall and be an example before ever setting foot on the field. I know it's not a perfect analogy, but it wasn't meant to be. Again, the link between social causes and sports was the conversation topic.
  21. and honestly, it would only be a big deal if I made it one. But my employees probably didn't feel strongly enough about anything to bother with a protest. Back in the day, employees unionized to improve their workplace. Different type of protests.
  22. Chances are you don't have a viewing audience in the millions to get your protest noticed, as NFL players do. It's a big difference than you protesting at the office.
  23. Agreed, although it's probably a 2 way street, integrating into society and being accepted into society.
  24. If my employees wanted to kneel quietly for about 45 seconds before they started work, I wouldn't have given it a second thought. Better than out getting a smoke.
  25. Why, I need to have the answer in my head to any question I'm asked?
