And it's an offensive explosion! 14-10. Florida

Do they have zero budget or what? I mean seriously, couldn't they have gotten a highschool band and at least looked a little more professional?

Nice link. Thanks.

(above posts editedto save space) I agree with the above sentiments. However, I find it comical, to say the least, that many posters, 2 of which quoted above, have been posting for months, if not years, that Ralph is too cheap, Ralph only cares about making money, Ralph had no loyalty to Buffalo, Ralph will never do what it takes to win, etc. Then Ralph fires Jauron mid season, eating his remaining contract, publicly says he's willing to do whatever it takes to win, and clearly makes it known no one's job is safe. Almost immediately, posts surface that its all talk. Then Ralph/Brandon contact every big name coach on the list - reportedly with record money and control on the line. Now, we see posts that Ralph is desperate, chasing mirages. And now, he should go the cheap route and get an unproven GM and coach. It's a great world to live in where you can consistently change your target to suit your needs and forever prove that you're right and everyone else is wrong. There is no guarantee that anyone, Shanny or Chris Polian or whomever, will be successful here. I would certainly hope we could all agree with that. But, let me ask this... what would you be posting today if all the reports were that Ralph was not interested in Shanahan or Cowher and hadn't even contacted them? What if reports were that Ralph had his eye on some teams pro player scout as the new GM and some hot assistant as the HC? I think we all know. So, if Ralph contacts the top coaching prospects; he's desperate. If he hires a no name GM, he's cheap and never intended to build a winner. I just find it comical that no matter what Ralph or the Bills do, they're wrong. My point is simple. There is no sure, guaranteed way to build a winning franchise. Ralph said before the season began that this year was playoffs or bust. When it became overtly apparent that wasn't happening, he fired the HC and has now promised more changes. He's currently looking into the top name HC candidates and, reportedly, offering more than anyone ever thought possible. Yet, posters still act as though he's clueless and not doing what it takes to win. Can we just let the thing play out a little before we all continue to complain that Ralph is the worst owner ever in the history of owners? If you want to have even the appearance of objectivity, you should at least fain a little credit for what Ralph has done over the last couple of weeks. Then when you get back to your Bills' bashing, at least you can say you gave them the benefit of the doubt for a few days.

Isn't that what they tried in 2006? A first round QB with mobility and a strong arm that can throw in Buffalo. Free agent offensive linemen - G, RT, C. New OC from Rams.
-
So you're not going to call Ralph cheap, and unwilling to do what it takes to win if he brings in an unheralded, unproven GM and first time HC to rebuild the team?
-
There really doesn't need to be anything more said than this. Polian is in Indy. His son is staying in Indy. Hence, Polian will stay in Indy to continue working with his son. The Bills, as well as all other teams, have zero chance to hire either of them. Why don't we just sign Peyton Manning while we're at it? I mean it makes no sense to get a good GM without a good QB. Sure some might say I'm nuts saying we should sign Manning, but we have just as much likelihood of getting him here as we do Polian. I wonder if we could get Jeff Saturday, too?

Martz reportedly wants to be Bills coach

Perhaps the Bills have more leverage with Shanny and other potential HCs than some have suggested? -
Loved his answer in the press conference. Why did you practice outside today in the rain? "Never trust your local meteorologist." Good stuff. The guy is too straitght forward and honest in his answers to be a HC in the NFL.

I was thinking he should have called a timeout just prior to the 2 minute warning. We would have used all our timeouts, but assuming the same number of plays for the Jags to score, we would have gotten the ball back with about 30-35 seconds more on the clock. So, what's better 1 minute and 1 timeout or 1:30 with no timeouts? 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the otherr with our offense quite honestly. Still, that's what I was thinking. The end of the 2nd quarter; however, was botched pretty bad IMO.

Rumor: Shanahan offered 5 years/$50M and partial ownership
Dan replied to Doc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Without knowing any of the details of his contract (probably means you should stop reading and I should stop typing), but I think it's somewhat standard fair for the Broncos to have to honor the agreement, unless he gets another job. So, I would guess, if he signs with a new team the Broncos are off the hook. -
We won't know who the coach is untill January
Dan replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Much agreed. Another poster (couldn't find the post right now) said earlier that it'll be telling how many otherr interviews Shanny goes on over the next few months. Of course, he'll be somewhat limited to teams that fire their HC early, which may not be many. But, I do think it's a good point. It'll be interesting to see how many teams Shanny's name comes up with as HC jobs become discussed. -
I did too. And I still think we'll give the Fins a much more competitive game than we did the first time around as well. He certainly will have. And I think he knows that. The cards are definitely stacked against Fewell, let's face it. But, you have to think he, as much as each of the players, are interviewing for their jobs next season whether it be in Buffalo or somewhere else. I hope he does well and proves to us all that he does deserve the right to stay.

How Bad is Buffalo if 10mill per year won't get it done?
Dan replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You do realize that, that's the money Ralph is using to try and bring a guy like Shanahan in with? IMO, Ralph knows he can't rebuild the stadium full of $100,000 luxury boxes. So, he's done the next best thing. Can you please provide some evidence that Ralph doesn't care about winning? Didn't he just bring in a high-priced FA? Didn't he just fire his underachieving HC mid season? Didn't he just com out and say he's prepared to pay whatever it takes to get a good coach in here? You do realize Dallas' record over the last 5 years hasn't been stellar (save once)? 2004 - 6-10; '05 - 9-7 '06 - 9-7 '07 - 13-3 '08 - 9-7 Nor has the Redskins? 2004 - 6-10; '05 - 10-6 '06 - 5-11 '07 - 9-7 '08 - 8-8 So what was your point again, other than you've readily bought into the media hype that Dallas and Washington's owner somehow care and know more about winning than Buffalo's owner? -
If he wins out.. .then we can talk.

Shanahan met with Bills for 7 hours over 2 days
Dan replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not close to $10 mill. Link 1 - coacheshotseat.com Link 2 - forbes.com However, I think you have to ask yourself. If Belichick or Fisher hit the market, what would they command? I'd propose quite a bit more than their current salary of roughly $5mill/yr. Also, I think it important to remember that the numbers thrown out so far - $10mill/yr + partial ownership + - are pure speculation. So until Shanahan is hired and the actual numbers come out, I think it important to not get too drawn into the numbers. Other than to say, price does not seem to be an issue with Ralph. -
Be careful what you wish for, Bills fans

To be fair, almost any coach will have some people thinking its a ticket to a title. But, more importantly, I don't see paying top dollar for a HC as trying to buy a championship in the same way as bringing in every top FA on the market. Paying top dollar to a quality HC is just paving the way for winning team to built from the ground up. Of course, he could try to bring every high-priced FA as well. But, that would be another discussion. -

It'll almost certainly be spun that wyay by a numbe of pundits and posters; however, I disagree. These same pundits and posters have been saying for years that this is a coaching league. That is, with FA, salary caps, and parity all teams have roughly equal talent. What separates the contenders from the pretenders is coaching. So, we need a good coach. If Cowher does take a job, it'll certainly be in the same ballpark salarywise. Heck, Shanahan is making $7mill for doing nothing. Someone is going to pay him more than that to get him. Is he worth it? Well, who knows. But, if you want him, it's going to take some serious coinage. I do agree, it's one heck of a price just to make the playoffs. But, there's no guarantee in any decision. We tried the strong GM role with TD. That failed. We tried the hot coordinators. That failed. We tried the experienced, but cheap coach. That failed. Now, looks like we're trying the big name coach with rings approach. You're absolutely right, no other team has been successful with that. However, seeing as it's Ralph's money, I'm all for it. Bring in some credibility. Bring in some positive attitude. Make the playoffs. Then in 4 years, fire the guy and try to get over that final hump. IMO, it'll be easy to break the cycle the Bills are currently in with a name coach as opposed to an unproven guy. It will be interesting to see what they do about the players, though. Regardless of who the coach/GM is, I'm not sure Buffalo can afford the signing bonuses the top FA's, ala Hansworth, demand. So, although Carucci's artivle is concerning, I'm not sure Shanahan could operate like that even if he wanted to. Perhaps that will give Ralph the out when he quits because he can't spend like a drunken sailor. -

I agree. However, IMO, the first step for the Bills must be to establish credibility and a winning atmosphere again. Muddling along with mediocre coaches and players makes that difficult to accomplish. However, bringing in a Shanahan adds instant credibility to the franchise. With that being said, the Cariucci (sp?) article concerns me. Because it brings into light what may be the cost of that credibility. Is it worth it? I honestly don't know. But I guess we can cross that bridges a few years from now. -

Do you honestly think someone like Shanahan is afraid to coach against NE? Seriously, you're proposing that as something that would turn away potential coaching candidates? They have to go against the big bad Pats* each year.
