  1. I guess the thing that is most troubling about this to me, beyond the fact that I liked what I thought the guy stood for, politics being what they are, you can bet there will be some sort of Republican scandal next...Olberman (I know, I know) is already hinting some sort of bombshell to go off, concerning John Boehner. The rumors have been out there for a few years, but you can bet they are going to be pursued with a new fervor. Is this what politics are going to come down to? The culture and enviorment we live in values blowing the lid off of stuff like this. Weiner may have been a "liberal loud mouth", but he said the things that needed to be said, from the left point of view, in a style that wasn't as ineffectual and PC as liberals tend to be. To think Anthony Weiner is the only member of the senate or congress up to things along these lines, is naive. I know KD and LA want their politicians to be held to higher standard, which I get...and I truly appreciate. But, this whole affair, and all the ones to come, and all the ones before, for what is pretty inconsequntial behavior, is just a distraction for everyone. Funny thing is, if Weiner ran again, as an independent, he would have a good chance of winning.
  2. He has received his first job offer since his resignation, for real: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/larry-flynt/anthony-weiner-resigning-_b_878667.html
  3. You're killing me...you are making too much sense today!
  4. I have a copy of "The Original Buffalo Bills: A History of the All-America Football Conference Team, 1946-1949", it is an excellent book!
  5. I agree. It says as much about human nature as it does about politicians.
  6. Not all the time...Bettman has been getting this treatment for years... it is as much an NHL hockey tradition as throwing caps on the ice when somone scores a hat-trick. There is a real sense that he has ruined the league, on the part of some. Over-expanison, failure to capitalize on the few glimmering moments the NHL had to raise its' visibility as a national, rather than regional, sport. People really don't like him. David Stern has received the same type of treatment, at times...but his league has made a comeback, in a big way...scripted or not. Just out of curiosity, how would you prove something like that?
  7. Who is having a moment?
  8. Wow! Some of those are incredibly creepy.
  9. It is generally perceived that he is awful at his job...particularly in Canada...booing Bettman is an NHL tradition!
  10. Every once in a while, you surprise me!
  11. That was good...if you try enough, eventually you will land one...good job!
  12. Gotta say, when the playoffs started, the Bruins were the team that sacred me the most in the East, as far as the Sabres go. Although the last game didn't live up to the rest of the series, could there have been a more dramatic playoff run for one team, than what the Bruins just did?
  13. Sorry...edited.
  14. Just got this: From: CNN Breaking News <BreakingNews@mail.cnn.com> Date: Thu, Jun 16, 2011 at 8:47 AM Subject: CNN Breaking News To: textbreakingnews@ema3lsv06.turner.com Embattled Democratic New York Rep. Anthony Weiner will resign his seat in the House of Representatives, a senior Democratic source says. Weiner, who represented New Yorks 9th District since 1998, admitted earlier this month that he had sent lewd images and messages over the Internet to six women and more illicit relationships had emerged since then. The congressman had taken a two-week leave of absence "to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person," his spokeswoman said.
  15. Yes, discussing this on ESPN Radio this morning (M&M), all four of the Boston proteams have won a title in the span of 8 years! Pretty amazing. Factoring all the teams that have a team in all the major sports, I believe they said, New York teams accomplished this the next quickest, in the span of 12 years...but keep in mind, New York has 7 pro teams. I love the Celtics, and hate all the other Boston area teams...but I have no love for Vancouver either. Last night's game was pretty dull, considering what was at stake. As the game wore on, I found myelf pulling for Boston, of all things...call me nuts, but being a Bills fan, and a Sabres fan, I kind of prefer to see our traditional rivals (Dolphins, Bruins, Flyers, etc) play relevant games, while fanatacizing that the Bills and Sabres will be relevant again, too. As much as I wanted to get behind Vancouver (beautiful city and all), there is little about that team that I liked.
  16. Seriously...I don't know what is wrong with me the last few days...
  17. I doubt it. She also called the hole thing off, the day before her new single (yeah?) was set to "drop" on iTunes! She played Hef like an old fiddle...I suspect news of a new reality show to be right around the corner...give it two months.

  19. In that ESPN book, Beadle says some kind of catty things about the whole Erin Andrews peep-hole incident...heard Shales, and the other writer (can't remember his name) saying that Beadle was the only person, currently working at ESPN, willing to make her comments on the record...Beadle admitted to watching the video on-line, and, sort of sarcastically, I think, marveled at how incredible Andrews looked in the video, and implying that Andrews used the whole thing as a means of career advancement...maybe that the whole thing was staged, as well... I am kind of surprised MB went there... http://deadspin.com/5803187/espn-book-will-make-things-even-more-uncomfortable-between-michelle-beadle-and-erin-andrews
  20. Yeah, I don't watch "Sportsnation" religiously, cuz I loathe Cowherd, but it is on when I get home from work, most days...I noticed she hadn't been on there so much the last few weeks...maybe she is taking summer vacation days (common this time of year)or possible fallout from the whole controversy surrounding the ESPN book (Beadle vs Erin Andrews), but I am hoping this means she is moving on to bigger and better things. I would rather she stay on ESPN, with her own show (once rumoured),cuz, if she goes to one of the morning network shows, I would likely never watch her...I really do think she is good...on top of being a little hotty!

  23. I have been around musicians my whole life, and I can honestly say, I have never seen any dramatic portrayal of the lives of musicians (with few exceptions) in such an honest way...not superstar musicians, just working-class musicians who dedicate their lives to such an ephemeral endeavor. I realize, this show has a very narrow appeal, because most won't get all the references...but just the scene in the last episode, where Delmond and his father (Big Chief) are talking about Delmonds' new record...when Big Cheif says "I can play bass", Delmond replies "We already got Ron Carter"...Big Chief, not batting an eye says "Ron Carter? He's alright"...the look that Delmond gives his father is priceless...Ron Carter is maybe the greatest living jazz bass player...can't wait to see Big Chief and Ron Carter on the screen together next week, as the previews indicate. Glad to see I am not the only one watching. I think too many people were expecting it to be like "The Wire" and got turned off pretty fast...I can't find anyone else who watches it. My sister gave up on it after the first season, just wasn't interested in season two. I can deal with small storylines, and meandering stories, the randomness, because that is how life is. Speaking of Sonny, I like his storyline. During season one, he was, perhaps, the most unlikeable of all the characters, but he is becoming more redeeming, as he tries to kick junk. Liked the scene where he meets the little Asian hottie at the crawfish supply dock...maybe she reminds him a little of Annie T? The only storyline, this season, that is waring a little for me, is the chef in NY...I am not a "foodie", I suspect if I was, I would appreciate the nuances a little more...I just want her to move back to New Orleans already...the best thing to come out of it, is the chef meeting Delmond at the sports bar in NYC, to watch the Saints games. Maybe, because the show is so sprawling, with a large ensemble cast, she gets overlooked, but I can't believe that Melissa Leo hasn't at least been nominated for her role as Toni Bernette...that woman is a terrific actress. It seems like they have a zillion awards shows now, how come no love for the acting on this show? The scene with her and the daughter, outside the juvenile court house really hit close to home, as my family is going through something similar right now... As last season culminated with Katrina, I suspect this season will culminate with the Saints winning the Super Bowl.
  24. Jeez...I have made some bone-headed typos in my day, but that is the worst! Please accept my apology.
