So, essentially you traded Larry Fitzgerald and Felix Jones, for Ahmad Bradshaw. Pretty good deal, given your situation. After owning Fitzgerald a few times in recent years, I cam to the conclusion, as great a player as he is, if his QB's blow, he can only do so much for you. Bradshaw is someone you can plug in every week, and know that he is going to get some action. I know the rookie, Wilson, could take some carries from him, but there aren't many guys anymore who don't have to compete. I like Roddy White and Torrey Smith. Good gamble, IMO. I am always looking for package deals like that...sometimes you just have to look at everyone elses' rosters, and find a team that is deep at one position, and weak at another, and then get your gears in motion and come up with an offer that is fair for both of you...and then, cross your fingers that the guy you traded to them gets injured ASAP!

You know, the first season was not very good, which I think, turned a lot of people off...but it got so much better when it gave up the notion of being like TNG. To this day, whenever I mention Star Trek to people who are also fans, more often than not, they say they never really watched DS9...such a shame. For me I still love the original, I really liked NG, but DS9 was my absolute favorite. It kind of retained some of the naivety of the original, but also had an edginess that the other shows never had. I will confess, I gave up on Voyager around the second to last season...our local affiliate took it off, and I realized, I didn't care enough to go through the trouble it would take (at that time) to see the rest...the show was painfully dull, and repetitive. Seven of Nine was it's only saving grace, but even that got dull...and, since I am in full disclosure mode, I have only seen two or three episodes of Enterprise...it didn't do much for me. I have heard that it got much better as it went on, but it was just too formulaic for me... I kind of wish they had waited a few years for it, to let people miss the franchise a bit...it just seemed unnecessary at the time. Also, all in all, I thought the re-boot flick was pretty good...looking forward to the new one...I just hope they don't feel the need (again) to make one of the original actors a part of the story. No more Shat or Nimoy...if you are going to re-boot, re-boot...

Buffalo Is Going To Beat Houston
Buftex replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have always tried to make it to any road game that comes my way....and gone to quite a few others...I have been lucky, cuz they have won more than they lost on my road trips...but nothing worse than spending money you shouldn't spend, spending an entire day to drive back and forth, only to see them get blown out...the Dallas game last year comes to mind...bad feeling. Also, for me, the Texans game will likely be the only game (besides the Thursday nighter) that I can watch from the comfort of my own living room...I am so torn. Money is tight..if I go, it is not just buying a ticket for me, but for my girlfriend too...decisions, decisions..... True that... much as I hate Texas sometimes, they do have an abundance of natural beauty! -
Benjamin Sisko...DS9, the best of the modern Treks!

Thanks for all the advice, both practical and impractical, gents! I did another massive clean tonight...and parked in a different place (we have tried this before).... Terro will be my next move.

Or, if you have read the whole thread, you would realize that there is little to say in response to your thread, that hasn't been said a number of times already. If you really think that Colin Powell is endorsing Obama simply because he wants to be popular with libs and the black community, then there really is no point arguing with you. If Powell hasn't earned enough credibility with your crowd (hadn't heard the incredible John Sanunu comment, which is essentially the same as yours, until after your post), then your argument is no better than the one you are so offended by, any black person who sides with conservatives is an "Uncle Tom". We are not talking about Lenny Kravitz or Will.I.Am here. I didn't see anyone (liberal or conservative) slamming Condolezza Rice for endorsing Mitt Romney. Nobody questions the integrity of her predictable endorsement, because she has some assumed credibility. Doesn't Colin Powell warrant as much credibility as Condolezza Rice? Or, does he lose it, because you don't like the guy he endorses? If you think that Powell is simply a "mouthwhore", how do defend Romney?
-
Well, look at this way...if he wins again, you will have a never ending supply of "another thing to hate about Obama" material.

It will all be over in a few weeks....

So, a few weeks ago, both my girlfriend and I had an invasion of ants in our respective cars. We live in an apartment complex, and they were doing a bunch of landscaping stuff...close to where we both park our cars. We both washed the insides of our cars out well, vaccumed, etc etc....even put a few "combat" traps in the car. It seemed to take care of the issue. Last week, my girlfriend tells me she had ants in her car again....not as bad as last time. We cleaned her car again, and it seemed to take care of the issue...I hadn't noticed anything more in my car...but today, as I driving home in bumper to bumper traffic, I notice an ant scurrying across my dashboard...I killed it. Then, a few minutes later, at a red light, I look down and I see hundreds of the little bastards all over my dash, crawiling in and out of the AC vent, around the radio dials, etc The interior of my car is black, so they are not immediately noticeable...but there were lots. These are not the really tiny little brownish ants...and not the huge carpenter ants...but sort of in between size, and they move very fast...for ants. We also had some of the same type of ants around our bathtub a few months ago. Had the apartment people spray, which seemed to help the bath-tub issue. Anyone ever have this issue. This one is new to me. What is in my engine, AC that would attract ants? Other than an occasional coffee or soda ring in cup holder, I don't ever eat in my car.. and I have been taking extra precaution to make sure I clean up any spilled coffee or soda residue. Any input? I got home, and I feel like they are all over me...I am sure it is just mental!

Golisano interview on the Bills & ownership
Buftex replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know this has speculated about, ad nauseum, but here goes anyways...since it is the bye-week and all: Jim Kelly (okay, everyone laugh) seems to talk definitively that he knows the Bills are not leaving Buffalo. Most have written this off as pure bluster on Kelly's part...and there have been a few odd things over the years that seem to indicate that somebody (or someones!) know a bit more about something that is going on that we are not privy to. All silly stuff, but I remember Thurman Thomas, two or three years ago, talking on the Bills future in Buffalo, and he sounded so much like he knew something that he was dying to say, but couldn't... and then there was some tweet a year or two ago from Jim Kelly's nephew (IIRC, can't remember all the details now) about meeting the Bills new owner... it could all be complete bull **** (I am sure most of you here will assume it is) but it sure seems like this topic is not as dormant as it may seem, behind the scenes. Now, before everyone jumps all over Kelly with the usual "he dosn't have a fraction of the money" it would take to own the Bills, or point to his disastrous stab as a restaurateur as some proof that he is an idiot or slime...I am not, for a second suggesting that Jim Kelly will be the owner of the Bills. But, he does seem to speak with an unusual amount of confidence on the topic of the Bills leaving Buffalo. I just think there is something there. It could be Golisano, who Kelly no doubt knows on some level...or maybe even Pegula...though I am not sure if their shared Pennsylvania roots have ever put them together....I just think there is something there. Now, the biggest hole in my theory, as I see it, is Ralph Wilsons' part in all of this. Why would he stay so quiet? For that matter, it is hard to imagine he hasn't put some plan into action that would resolve this whole thing, once he passes. I realize, he is a fairly wealthy man (though I am not sure where he stacks up in the Golisano/Pegula area..I imagine he is not as wealthy as they are) I can't, for the life of me, figure out his motivation for keeping it secret, if, indeed his plan favors the notion of the franchise staying in WNY. The Bills, I would think, are his most valuable asset...if his main concern is making sure his family remains wealthy when he is gone, he must have some notion of what will happen after he leaves us. -
Well, we will never know...she announced her plans to leave the position long before the Benghazi incident. That is absolutely true too...but it has nothing to do with anything! Everytime I have a lingering doubt that "maybe the conservatives on this board are on to something", I will remember this thread...

Sure, he has that right...but he also has the right to make an endorsement. I don't how to measure "most other retired politicians", but an awful lot of them do make endorsements. Particularly prominent ones. Some might even feel it is their responsibility.

Never been to Montreal, but, for whatever reason (70's logo/Bills colors) they were my favorite baseball team as a kid...stopped caring about baseball, for the most part, when they left Montreal.

There is the "lie of omission".

Buffalo Is Going To Beat Houston
Buftex replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am still ambivilating whether to head to Houston for this game. The way the Bills have been playing, I don't see them really having a shot at winning this game...at all.. UNLESS: as the OP suggests, the Bills defense, all of the sudden, finds some previously untapped sense of pride, and shuts down the Texans running game. I haven't seen any indication that they are capable of this. If, however, they could..on any given Sunday, the Bills offense (warts and all) could have a sneaky good day (they can move the ball) and get into a shoot out...and, then, maybe end up on top. Chan Gailey has two weeks to figure out how to best use his best assetts (Spiller/Jackson) and prove that he can do what a good coach is supposed to do...put his team in the best position to win. He doesn't always seem to do that. -
KD... we can only pretend it exists when black people endorse/vote for a black candidate...but if white people vote for a white candidate it really isn't an issue? Reality does exist, as you point out (I like that!)... we all know that racism exists. However, in this case, we aren't talking about one of the faceless 96-97% of black voters...we are talking about a five-star Genral, and former Secretary of State under the previous Republican administration, endorsing a Democratic incumbant president, on the basis that he beleives his foreign policy is more sound than what his Republican challanger is piecing together his foreign policy to be. I would think, at this point, with all the crud you post about the Obam administration, you would be familiar with the concept of piecing together facts that you want to be factual, to reach a conclusion that you want to reach, while leaving anything coutner to that conclusion out of the equation?
-
Colin Powell resigned in 2004, long before he knew the black guy was going to run for president. He resigned over disagreements over the foreign policy by the Bush administration. His ongoing issues with Bush & Cheney were well documented. Was he wrong in his UN speech? Possibly... but he was also on record as saying that he was misled abou WMDs. He did, eventually act on his conscience. This attempt to say that his endorsement of Obama is racially motivated is kind of shamful, if you ask me. But, you didn't ask....

Growing up in Buffalo in the 70's, it is hard to fathom this, the New York Islanders will re-locate to Brooklyn, assuming there is an NHL again! This franchise just domintated the late 70's... http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/sportingscene/2012/10/the-islanders-in-brooklyn.html

Golisano interview on the Bills & ownership
Buftex replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought I read, way back when Pegula-maina was all the rage, that Pegula, while a hockey fan first and foremost, also followed the Bills when he lived in Orchard Park...where his wife is from. I kind of got the impression, at that time, that he was trying to temper any talks about his interest in owning the Bills, out of respect for Mr Wilson...but he did, with a nod and a wink, seem to indicate that he would have some considerable interest. Not on the record, but I also remember hearing rumor, before his Sabres purchase, he had put out some feelers on the Bills as well. I think he is smart enough to know that he is likely going to pump as much into the Sabres as he is to get out of them...but the Bills might be more lucrative. As far as your second point, it is well taken. I have been guilty, at times, of assuming Pegula is just willing to spend money like crazy...and I know that can't be the case, indefinitely. Whose to say he wouldn't buy them, see his fortunes in other business shrink, and looking to be selling them...the industry he has made his fortunes on is certainly controversial. -
I think the assertion is, by our non-racist friends, is that Powell couldn't/wouldn't possibly be endorsing Obama on any other principle, only the color of his skin.

Don't be afraid to brag..."you" picked up Lee Greenwood and Meat Loaf too!

new Wallflowers song, featuring Mick Jones
Buftex replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yes, me too....a huge Clash fan. Mick Jones is one of my favorite guitar players of all time. If I am not mistaken, the drummer in the vid is Jack Irons...played with Strummer in one of his last musical incarnations. I am confuse though..I hear Micks' voice, but I assume it is the Wallflowers guitar player doing the playing? Either way, good tune. Mick shows up in some random places these days. I always wish his ego (and probably Strummer's too) didn't ruin such a great thing. -
This is where fantasy football comes in handy. That said, looking forward to watching the Steelers and Redskins game at noon on Sunday. It will be my first real, extended, look at RGIII as a pro. Take away the "mini depression" of another possible Bills loss, and I am cool with a bye week. That deranged fan in me holds out some small hope that the bye week will give the Bills some time to reflect, come back, kick some ass, and save this season...still more than half a season to go...
