I actually want to go back and watch the first season again...a lot of seeds were planted then, I just didn't realize they were going to grow....enjoy season two...season three is even better! btw- I am sure you are right, but I really don't remember a whole bunch of sex scenes from season one...other than Nucky's tramp apparent ease with going full frontal pretty often...

Yeah, he does get recognized, and he is pretty cool with it..though I have never seen him get totally barraged by people. First time he came in, that I saw him, I go to the back room to clock in...and I see one of the buyers at his desk, crowded around him are Patty G (who I recognized immediately) and "some guy"...they are watching some video on youtube of some old blues song... I just kind of ignored it...but then I hear the guy speak, and the voice sounded real familiar...I give him another look, and realized it was RP... he just kind blends in, because most people would never expect to run into him I think... He lives here (in Austin) as he dating (possibly secretly married to) Patty Griffin, a really terrific local singer-songwriter of some note. Funny, this weekend she is playing a benefit show for singer Michael Fracasso who was in a bad auto accident..the show is billed as "Patty Griffin and driver"...it sold out in minutes..."driver" is Plant...they added a second show, which also sold out in minutes...funny too, Plant drives around town in an old beat up Crown Victoria. Another time, a Saturday, he came in, and was there a while...he and Patty are working on an album together, getting some material. A few people ask him for his autograph, and he is pretty polite, but not super chatty...don't blame him. About an hour after he leaves, Morrissey comes in (he was playing in town that weekend)...with two bodyguards...this kid I work with, who had gotten Plants auto (for his dad he says!) is a huge Morrissey/Smiths fan...he goes to ask him for his autograph on a new Smiths vinyl that had just come out, but the bodyguards head him off at the pass, as they did with some other regular customers...I said to him "When you check him out at the register, just tell him you are going to give Robert a call, and he will come down here and kick your ass!"

Just stop using toilet paper..that streak will start up all over again!

Wow..thanks for the link...I feel like that guy read my notes! I agree with everything he said... the first season, I have to admit, I was watching as much because the show just looked so great, but, more importantly for me (a huge Sopranos fan), Terrence Winter was the producer/creator. He, and Matthew Weiner (producer/creator of "Mad Men" my other all-time favorite) were David Chase's right hand men on the "Sopranos". What it lacked, that first season, though, for me (and as the Grantland writer points out) was any real compelling story. As the writer points out, perhaps the reason that Darmody's departure was so shocking, was because his story was the easiest to follow. There was so much poltical wrangling going on...at that time, it was hard to follow...but much of it is making sense now. I had a similar experience with "The Wire"...I watched them all over the course of about 4 months...I had a hard time following it, at first..I am not sure I would have kept watching, if I didn't have the rest of the episodes at my immediate diposal...but in the end, it was a very rewarding watch! I was really having a hard time keeping everything straight, and there were so many damn characters...you never knew who was important, who not. But, I certainly liked it enough to keep watching. The acting is always stellar...big fan of both Michael Shannon (Van Alden), Kelly MacDonold (Margaret..loved her in "Choke") and of course, Buscemi, who is normally (not always) only involved with high caliber projects. But, the second season was really great...and the third season even better. The only small issue I have with it (small because the show is so good, IMO) is the sort of half historical/half fictional tone of the show. Its' got me thinking that I need to do a little Capone research to see how involved he ever was in the fortunes of Atlantic City...but I guess it doesn't really matter that much. Can't wait for the finale...

Robert Plant shops pretty regularly at the record store I work at. Not long ago, he came in and picked up a bootleg vinyl copy of the reunion show...was trying to link a picture, but i can't get it to work on here! Was listening to the official release the other night...sounds really good...but it is pretty noticeable how much Plant's voice has dropped..he still sounds good, but the Zep shriek is gone daddy gone!

Preview for the season finale looks awesome! I wonder if the dropped red carnation signifies that Nucky is going to lose somebody in the "war on the streets"...Margaret? Eli? It is the same symbolism that they used last season (no spoilers...seems like everyone is not caught up!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E1QUpNkHag&feature=plcp

Somebody, for what it is worth (I think it was Sullivan) said that letting Fitz go would cost them 10 million on the cap next season...I really don't know if that is accurate..but it is fairly substantial. I think they keep Fitz for his contract (unless they can trade him..not out of the question IMO), and he mentors whoever our newest "QB of the future" turns out to be...from what I can tell, Fitz seems like a guy who could handle that roll if he was asked to. While I can't think of any situations, I am sure that somebody has come in to start on an NFL team, at the QB position, with less time in the "system" than Tavares Jackson has at this point.

Yeah, he was a bit of a blowhard, no doubt...but he was, at one time, the only guy that GR had that really knew the game...didn't really like his style, but there was a certain amount of credibility and knowledge that nobody else had. He was an opinionated SOB, but he did know the nuances of the game.

Jags game has disaster written all over it
Buftex replied to bobinaz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, Henne scares me a little...I thought he looked pretty good at times in Miami as well. One of those guys I wouldn't have minded seeing the Bills go after, when he was available. -
Just listened to the whole interview with Buddy... keep in mind, when he started to get testy, he was asked something like "Is it hard to keep saying "stay the course" ....Buddy responds: "I am not as sick of saying it, as people are of hearing it...you can't just keep having a state of constant turmoil" I really liked Buddy and Chan going into this season...I still like Buddy, and I think he has done a decent job...I realize not everything worked out the way he had hoped..but how often does that happen? I agree with him about not having constant change...and if I stil felt the way about Chan now, as I did in August, I would be all for bringing him back, disappointing results and all. But, this season, I think Chan has just shown he is not the guy...I think he has contributed heavily to at least 2 or 3 of the teams losses this year...and he doesn't appear ready to adjust to what is happening right in front of him. The handling of CJ Spiller is baffling...and ludicrous. Let me ask, without starting yet another thread: does anyone feel like there is a realistic chance that Buddy will be here next year, without Chan Gailey serving as head coach?

I think you are confusing the "company line" for simply being respectful. I have heard Chan, and Fitz get plenty of uncomfortable questions...and they deflect them, just as you would expect. I seriously doubt that Chan or Fitz have hung up the phone, after their shows, thinking "wow...that was awesome!" It is just making the best out of a bad situation. The GR personalities give plenty of their opinions, and I don't think anyone who really listens would come away thinking they sugar-coat anything because they are the Bills flag-ship station. They may not be as emphatic when they are talking to either guy, because that would get them nowhere... maybe, like Buddy today, one of them snaps and gives it back to them..but in the end, they still have to do a show every week...winning solves all these problems. Honestly, in any sport, any media, jock/coach interview shows are rarely insightful...it is kind of a tradition...the only thing that normally makes them newsworthy is when somebody does snap...

Why did Mike Mullarkey resign as HC of Buffalo
Buftex replied to BuffaloBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know someone who has worked in the Bills front office since the mid-80's...this person said that, other than Marv, Mularkey was, by far, the most liked head coach by Bills staff...if that means anything. They were all very excited when Marv came back as GM, but were really sad to see Mularkey leave. Honestly, I think Mularkey had been our best HC of this century..not saying much I realize...his hands were a little cuffed by the Losman thing. JP was kind of forced on him. From the sounds of it, he realized Bledsoe's better days were behind him, but wanted to keep him around another season (or pick up another vetran FA), and work Losman in more gradually... nobody really felt like Losman was ready to start. It was just the begining of a tough season for Mularkey. Then, when TD was fired, the whole franchise seemed pretty unstable...he was probably wise to move on. -
Yeah, that is pretty funny!

That is so flippin' cool... still remember having a korgi toy modeled after the original...you could eject Robin!

I will second that...along with "Freaks & Geeks"...what always strikes me is that the "stoners" of every era listen to classic rock in high school...my nephew (in 11th grade) is listening to the same music that I was listening to 30 years ago... I live within minutes where most of this film was made...I remember when they were filming...the only movie I will ever watch with Matthew McConaughey (though I am hearing great things about his work in "Killer Joe") if I can at all help it.

Very nicely done tribute to Jesse Pinkman...powerful stuff! -
Okay...that makes more sense...

That sucks. In our league, we have 3 divisions...the division winners all automatically make it in, even if their record is worse than somebody else who is not a division winner. One guy is winnig a division at 6-5-1, but all of the other teams in his division are sub .500, and he gets to play them twice...my division, the last place team is 6-6...of course, I guess I can't complain too much...I am only 1-4 in my division...probably 1-5 after this coming Sunday. So, I beat up on the other divisions, but can't really compete with the teams in my division!
-
So, let me get this straight...nobody wins any money, but the bottom two have to pay the CBS website fee? That kind of sucks. The ultimate Dick Jauron "just play not to lose" philosophy. Maybe I am misunderstanding... I feel your agony though...I haven't play Fantasy baseball in a long, long time..but in some ways, it is a little less flukish than Fantasy football. But, I do love FF!

Yeah...I gotta confess, the last few seasons are just a blur...but during the Colts game, the announcer seemed to be going on and on about Lindells' weak leg...and I am like "WTF? Lindell has an unusually weak leg? What did I miss?" I really think Chan is just too clever for our own good sometimes...but then I doubt my memory sometimes, as of late...glad I am not the only one surprised by this.

Andy Reid as Bills next head coach?
Buftex replied to superbills315's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get the feeling that if he were to become available, the Bills would have to get in line for his services. To me, he would seem like the ideal coach for Carolina... I would bet, if he does still want to coach, the lure of Cam Newton would be too much for him to pass up...especially given the alternative that Buffalo would offer... can't remember who it was, but some experienced NFL insider (maybe Casserly) once said something about long-time vetran coaches don't want to have to waste a lot of time looking for a QB if they head to another team...it makes some sense. Newton is a stud (no matter how some feel about his personality) and you can't help but think Reid, if his mind is into it, couldn't turn him into a superstar performer... he did that for McNabb, who isn't nearly as talented. -
Oliver Stone's "Untold History of the United States'"

I am kind of curious about it, but didn't see any of it yet...will watch it at some point. -
I am just as disheartened now as during Jauron's last year...
