Those who like the Kolb signing post here
Buftex replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is the approach I am taking. If we get him playing like "good Fitzpatrick" for 10 or 11 games out of the season, I can live with it. I just still have so many questions about the Bills offense this coming season. Not so much who is playing, and depth, but just the style of offense. Is it assumed we will have a "West Coast" style offense? If that is the case, that is the type offense that Kolb did well in, while with Philly. So there is that... -

I am on board with it, because there weren't many other options, at this point. -
Nick Barnett "back with Bills" tweet
Buftex replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really? You can't imagine? Really? How long have you been on this board? What passes for sports media these days, about half of it is based on tweets by athletes. If Tim Tebow made the same Tweet about returning to the Jets, it would be a huge story... it's Buffalo, we are Bills fans...Nick Barnett is Tim Tebow! If Barnetts' Tweet was something about signing with the Patriots, or even the Dolphins, I likely wouldn't give it a moments thought if he followed it up with an "April Fools!!!" tweet... it still wouldn't be funny (most April Fools jokes are not funny), but more understandable. -
Nick Barnett "back with Bills" tweet
Buftex replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Was thinking about it...they said he was cut because the failed a physical. I agree the "joke" is ill advised, but, perhaps, it is his odd way of aksing the Bills to give him another chance? Kind of keeping his name, in a positive way, fresh in the minds of the Bills braintrust. He likely would play for the vet minemum. Maybe he feels he can pass a physical now, and is feeling desperate, because he isn't gettting any calls. I feel kind of sorry for him, if this is the case. -

Maybe Nick is only fooling himself? -
Certainly a better season finale than previous ones...thing I liked best was the rift that seems to have developed between Rick and Carl...haven't read the comic books, but I am hoping this, somewaht unpredicatable development, has some teeth to it.

What scares/inspires you the most about this upcoming season?
Buftex replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is going to sound cold, but the thing that "inspires" and scares me is that we are getting closer and closer to an ownership change. Inspring because it could be a real change in the way the franchise does business...and scarey because it could mean the end of the Bills doing business in Buffalo. At this point, I hate to say it, I love the idea of the Bills fielding a competitive team, but I have no expectations of it...and nothing that has happened this offseason, so far, makes me feel like we are not in for another season of "more of the same". I hope I am dead wrong (cuz I am watching no matter what), but I don't get any real sense of anything from the Doug Marrone hiring (good or bad...though I like the Pettine hire), and I am not feeling particularly encouraged by the roster, as it stands right now. It looks pretty thin and barron...of course, it is only April 1st....a lot can still happen. I was somewhat excited by the notion of watching a new, "franchise QB" take the reins, and watch his progression....the Kevin Kolb signing kind of muddies that up...and really doesn't get me too excited... And yeah, as a few have mentioned, Spiller should be fun to watch. -
It's hard to know what the Bills are thinking, for me. Signing Kolb, to me, indicates that they are not going to pick a QB at #8. I am thinking, more likely they try to get their QB later in the draft. Later, as in, not the first two rounds. If they pass on a QB pick at #8, they will have a tough time getting a top QB prospect at #41 (or is it #42?), without trading up. I am starting to think the Bills just are not really enamored with any of the big name QB prospects...it has been assumed that they are interested in Nassib, but who knows that for sure? All that said, I would lean toward Patterson, if, indeed, he is available at #8. Eifert would be a nice pick up too, but I am leery of picking a tight end that high in the draft, to plug into an offense that has so many question marks. Kolb is known to have decent, or adequate, arm strength...maybe he can get the ball down-field with Patterson.

Bills officially sign QB Kevin Kolb
Buftex replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My most recent memory of Kolb was that dreadful game the Bills won over the Cardianls this past season. I was pretty down on Fitzpatrick at that point, but remember thinking, "okay, Fitz might not be the worst starting QB in the league". I know, the Cardinals don't have a ton of talent, but neither do the Bills at this point. I guess, perhaps, because players change teams a lot more now than they did in the "good old days", but how many times in recent years have we seen NFL teams go "all in" to obtain a guy (QB), only to be very off in their assessments? -

So, suppose the Bills do sign Kolb. Does that mean no QB in the first round? No Geno Smith, even if he is available at #8? Charlie Casserly made an interesting point on NFLN tonight...if the Bills don't pick a QB with their first pick, they could be in a very bad spot in round #2 (10th pick) to get one of the top 5 prospects (which, according to the NFLN experts, includes Nassib). Doesn't it seem, more and more, with all the analysis they do of players, NFL personel guys are wrong more than they are right these days? -

I thought that is why we had Travaris....we let Fitz go because we didn't need two sub-par NFL starters to "mentor" our new franchise QB. What am I missing? I think, if we sign Kolb, or trade for Flynn, that is going to be our starting QB, for at least the next two years...either will command more salary than you would give to a scrub vet whose role is to show a drafted QB the ropes. I don't have a strong feeling for Kolbs' talent, but my instincts tell me "no". Also, weren't there rumors out there that he was kind of a douche, and not well liked by some of his teammates? -
If You Could Make One Song Disappear Forever ...
Buftex replied to Gugny's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Okay that makes sense. That Lightfoot song has a really cool, swampy vibe...and the guy just had a unique voice. One of those oldies I will always turn up! As for your musical upbringing, prior to college, mine wasn't all that different. I listened to bubble-gum and top 40 radio pop as a kid, and my parents only got as edgy as Nat King Cole. I always had, and still have, appreciation for both..."Rhinestone Cowboy" brings me back.. I was lucky enough (I suppose) to have 5 older siblings who exposed me to other stuff...I still remember hearing Velvet Underground do "Heroin" when I was in sixth grade...I didn't know wtf Lou Reed was singing about (being a nerdy Trekkie, I thought "Heroin" was referring to a girl), but I knew he was singing like he really meant it. I still remember sitting on my bedroom floor, sorting through baseball cards, and my sister put it on...the hair on my head stood on edge, and I remember just stopping what I was doing, staring into the eyes of Tony Perez, and thinking I just heard something that would change me. and my level of love for music, forever. -
Fred Davis FA TE has dinner with Bills brass
Buftex replied to Scott_36's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Davis is playing the Bills...move on Buddy. -
FWIW: I signed up for Twitter, out of shear boredom one day, and "followed" about 25 people....mostly comedians or sports people. Amongst them was Thurman Thomas and CJ Spiller. Seems like they both heard about the Whitner Tweet too. Spiler (who normally only posts religious stuff) actually thanks Thurman for being a great spokesman for the city, and refers to Whitner (not by name) as being "classless" for running down a city, after he is gone.... I hadn't logged in to my account for a few months, until this thread. Frankly, Twitter gives me a headache...I never now who is saying what, or it is a "re-tweet"...I lost interest pretty quick.

Hey, didn't Travis Brown start a game for the Bills, a season ender? -
Yeah...no.

I actually experienced somthing similar, not too long ago, on Time Warner. I was watching an episode of "Veep", using their On-Demand service. About 2/3 of the way through, it just froze...I rebooted my cable box, and when I was back up, "Veep" was no longer a programming choice, On Demand. They had the whole series available, but it all disappered, mid-viewing. Funny thing is, just last night, I saw it listed again, ON Demand.

I am hearing that new, confident Peggy won't be in the show as much as she has been...which makes sense I suppose....seeing as she has moved to a new firm. I see that Elizabeth Moss has a new series "Top of the Lake"...

Well....honeslty, "being jettisoned by his second team" is kind of a mis-characterization. He wasn't going to beat Aaron Rogers out any time soon for playing time, and the Packers, realizing they are set at QB, didn't want to pay him what it would take to keep him, when his contract was up. And, yeah, he did get beat out by Ryan Wilson. But, as I recall, during pre-season, the perception was that Flynn wasn't outplayed that badly by Wilson, just that Wilson played far above expectations, and Carroll decided to roll with him. During the first half of the season, there were still those who thought that Flynn should be starting over Wilson. I don't see the Seahawks willingness to trade Flynn as anything more than a team realizing they have a valuable commodity on their hands, and they feel they should cash it in now, for the future of their franchise. All that said, I wouldn't be upset if the Bills made this move. To those saying Flynn is "unproven" I would suggest, none of the Bills other options will likely be any more proven...and the guy has been in the leauge for a few years...we have seen, for every guy who is great out of the box (RGIII, Luck, Cam) there are still those guys who get better with time, and opportunity (Aaron Rogers, Alex Smith, etc). I just don't see that trading for Flynn is a much larger gamble than drafting a guy in the first round of the draft, particualarly, when we seem to need a QB in a year when there is not one QB prospect who is a conscnesious NFL starter in 2013. Of course, the decision making process will all come down to cost, just as it did for the Packers and Seahawks in giving up on Flynn.
