  1. i don't think you understand the payments. they DO save money if they cut him, of course they do... otherwise today would not mean anything. not against the cap this year, but real money. that still matters. plus, at least he would be gone, off the books by next year. keep him, and there will be a cap hit in 2014 as well. and he doesn't have us by anything. if he gets cut, he is not making as much anywhere else as here. he loses money if cut, AND has less chance of playing.
  2. You might be... I believe while you cannot save cap room this year by cutting him, you WOULD save it next year by cuttinghim now. If you want until next year to cut you not only took up the space this year, but you'll be taking up some next year as well. Plus you are just plain paying him a bunch of money that may not effect cap this year, but may effect what they want to spend overall. So there are financial reasons to cut him.
  3. I think we're going after Landry.. but maybe this guy being added to the market as another SS option lowers the price a little.
  4. Nothing to do with letting him develop really, than simply having him under contract for an extra year before FA. Simply a financial thing. Tannenbaum is still an idiot, however. Besides, if it works out that you have to pay a franchise QB money a year earlier is a small problem to have for a team looking for a franchise QB for a decade. As for Nassib, it's true he doesn't look great... but no one does. Are his faults any bigger than the others? Not so sure, every one of these QB's has some people saying they're no better than a 3rd round pick. Geno, Barkley, all of them have detractors.
  5. Was unlisted before right? And now rest of list is the same but previous 2-5 moved down. meh, i guess. but surprised he still has Glennon above Nassib. not seeing it, i'd have him like 7th or 8th. But who knows, he may hear about Nassib's pro day today and move them around again next week.
  6. Dion Jordan would be more of a OLB though, not a DE... at least early on. But still he's 249 and can put on more weight eventually i think since he's so tall. Still prefer Jarvis Jones though.. less of a projection.
  7. Why not Jarvis Jones? Seems a surer bet to help, especially sooner, than Jordan who needs surger and Ansah who is raw,
  8. Joeckel Fisher L.Johnson Jarvis Jones Dion Jordan Patterson Milliner Geno Smith gap between the top and bottom 4 intentional, especially if we lose Levitre. just don't think any QB's are remotely worth 8th pick but i had to come up with an 8th so i went with the top one (no interest in Barkley). maybe Warmack if we Andy and the tackles are gone.
  9. Fisher was less a combine star than a Senior Bowl star... so I wouldn't worry. Our line is average with Levitre. Without probably their best player, it's poor. Our offense was designed for quick passes more because we didn't have tackles that could off the rush for very long than anything else. Glenn was decent for a rookie, but was worse as season wore on and may be best at right... or at best a decent but not elite LT. Pears stinks at RT and Hairston's play was somewhat disappointing as well. If we're going to have a rookie QB, best thing you can do for him is give him a good line. Worst is giving him a bad one. Weapons are secondary to this factor.
  10. well, and wins... and completion %. the last 2 years, Smith was 19-5, 64%, with 30 TD's and 10 INT. that's waaaaaaayyyy better than Fitz. i really don't care about their numbers in 2007. his playoff games (he looked very good) and this year against us were pretty convincing. i think it was obvious why one was a #1 overall pick and the other a 7th rounder. they did not look equal.
  11. Or... had we gotten Meachem, maybe we would not have taken Graham in the 3rd and taken Russell Wilson instead. So we still might have missed out. I like Alex Smith.. I think he'll do well in KC. More telling is that if true, it probably means we are not too keen on any of the QB's and don't want to take one in round 1.
  12. He was the only WR on the market that fit the profile of what we're looking for.. big and can catch when covered. Not to say a Wallace wouldn't be useful, but I'm not seeing a good fit anymore. Looks like the draft is it.
  13. It's likely that the best player available at 8 will be an O-lineman. Maybe even the top 3 players available at that spot. 3 elite OT prospects, and 2 elite OG prospects. I don't think our O-line is better than many other spots on this team, and without Levitre it is one of the worst. Do we really want a rookie QB playing behind a mediocre O-line? I think it may be the #2 priority behind picking the right QB... is allowing him to develop rather than run. If O-line ends up BPA there, I hope they do it.
  14. Finley was such a disappointment. Those saying he's a stud must not have been following his story all year. Also may be ignoring why GB would let him go despite the departures of Driver and Jennings. His "chemistry problems" with arguably the best QB in the league despite the WR injuries that should have made him the #1 target, seem a nice way of saying he wasn't putting the work in to learn his routes-- and had too many drops when he did get it thrown to him. Not saying he isn't worth a look, but it seems he wants more than he's worth. I'd much rather have Fred Davis...but good luck getting him to leave RG3 for... who exactly? If a TE or WR is looking for numbers, and most do, it's gonna be tough recruiting until we have a starting QB (without drastically overpaying that is).
  15. lol... 4 wins, 6 wins, and 6 wins. that's terrible and is his legacy so far. "doesn't need to be saved" isn't even an option. of course it needs to be saved. the question is can he still save it. i'm changing my answer though from no, too late to yes if he gets a 10 top QB in this draft (since it seems pretty difficult) and we make the playoffs. anything short of that and it's pretty clear the Nix era was a bust.
  16. Freddy had already earned the job... Gailey took it away and tried Lynch/Spiller who both failed. Spiller is looking great now, but still not that great a pick since he didn't help us for 2 years. Stevie was already primed to be a starter... I don't think it was even a competition, or give Gailey/Nix much credit for allowing it to happen. Not to mention both of them were already here. He was more misses in everything overall than hits... otherwise why would we have even less wins in these 3 years than the 3 before? I think he missed his chance at a legacy by not grabbing QB's the last 2 years. Taking Kaepernick or Dalton in 2011, or Wilson in 2012 and we have a different conversation. Especially since the guys he took immediately in front of them look like complete busts. I think it's too late now; likely 4 seasons without a playoff birth and done.
  17. ha, they say that about Centers too. I remember them saying that about Kalil and Mangold, and they were like 1 or 2 years apart. That said, I'm for an O-line upgrade; though I think I'd prefer Fisher at OT over a Guard. Still a chance we could retain Levitre.
  18. Hackett Sr. watching every throw he makes. Can't say we won't have the best scouting report on this guy, that's for sure.
  19. Here's what CB Dunta Robinson said about J.P. Losman's 340-yard day, 265 of them going to Lee Evans: "Embarrassing. The guy just threw the ball up in the air and prayed that Lee Evans would run up under it. If that had been Peyton Manning, you'd expect it. But it was J.P. Losman. That's embarrassing."--Texans CB Dunta Robinson. Ha, good times. There may have been some truth to it, but I still thought he was do***ey for saying it.
  20. I agree with this in the first 2. I don't like WR as high as 8, too many questions and we need a sure thing to start this regime. And what's better for a young QB (or any QB) than a dominant O-line? But by the 3rd, we need a receiving weapon... this team needs one almost as much as QB. I think they will probably try and find a LB in FA, so grab a TE (or WR) in the 3rd for this new QB (Wilson or Manuel.. maybe Nassib). Trading down is appealing to me as well, in which case, then grab a WR in the first... just not at 8.
  21. Smith didn't look too reserved to me in the Syracuse game. If anything he had to be calmed down when things didn't go his way. I could use a little of that after seeing the beaten-looking Ftizpatrick trudge off the field head down after his picks. That said, it's hard to imagine Marrone picking the guy he beat 4 times in a row over his own guy who beat him... tough to justify. But basically, I'd need a lot more convincing Barkley is worth a top 10 pick when i've been reading he has 2nd or 3rd round arm talent recently. Guess we'll see at his pro day, but if he does not wow people, there is no way we take a below-average arm at #8.
  22. no, we need an OT too. Pears/Hairston are below average and Glenn was so-so. upgrade would not hurt. and we need a safety as well, free or otherwise (we need a backup even with Byrd). Levitre seems a long shot, so OG as well. heck, even a #3 RB could be on the table, since we have none and Freddy is aging. not early, but late. we can literally draft for pretty much anywhere except maybe DE. orrr.. maybe even there if Mario plays OLB and we like a 3-4 end. not exactly stacked anywhere. FA could change that but now? anything.
  23. what reasons? manuel is growing on me, while the others are shrinking. i know his footwork is questionable but that seems one of the few things that can actually be fixed.
  24. Maybin run much slower than Jordan. And Jordan's "low" weight is 248, while Maybin had trouble getting and staying there. Once Jordan can lift, he should put on another 10. Don't know about 20, you certainly aren;t putting that onto your pecs and he can probably do most other things. I had this surgery myself... was fine in 6 months. Maybe not 100% strength, but he can be lifting and playing by then for sure.
  25. I think Matt Cassell pretty much proved it was the system to a fair degree... but that doesn't mean Brady isn't a lot better at that system than most would be. I hate him, but no question he is very good. But of whether he is genuinely better than Aaron Rodgers or Peyton (in his prime), I have my doubts. As to his contract, he made his bones winning Super Bowls, and if he wins another he'll make all that money back in endorsements. It's a bit of a gamble, but not much of one since as many pointed out... his wife makes his money almost irrelevant.
