  1. I was thinking cage match.
  2. You and WEO really need to get a room.
  3. Didn't she rule in favor of the NFL in the Clarrett hearing?
  4. Good point. Combine that with the fantasy football mentality of stats telling you the whole story, these people don't even belong in the conversation.
  5. He played too long ago. Therefore, he is not worthy. Bigger...stronger...faster and all that.

  7. Other than the domed stadium question in the beginning, that chat was about as useless as a skooby post.
  8. Crap like is is why I don't talk about it anymore. Holy hell.
  9. 1965: -Roberson was 10th in the league in Yards per game and seventh in number of receptions. -Carlton was top 10 in yards, attempts, rushing TDs, yards/attempt and yards/game -Kemp was top five in passes, completions, yards, TD, passer rating, yards/game and completion percentage I will leave out my opinions on comparing the game across decades as everyone pretty much already knows how I feel about it.
  10. I asked one question. I doubt it will get answered. We shall see.
  11. Need to give some love for the old-timers: Offense: Gail Cogdill Jim Gibbons Defense: Night Train Lane Yale Larry and in the same defensive backfield: Dick LeBeau Offense: Dante Lavelli Mac Speedie Defense: Cliff Lewis Tommy James
  12. I think it is a worthwhile effort. People are always asking what books are good and what ones to avoid. While I don't see you being overly critical of any book, your reviews will paint a good picture of the subject matter. That gives people enough to make a decision on purchasing the book. As far as Q-and-A with the author, I think it is a good idea.
  13. If you are looking for additional AFL-related stories, I just updated the PFRA website with AFL articles our members have written over the years. These are not all of the articles we have written on the subject (check out the Articles section and Coffin Corner section for the complete list), but just a sampling. You will see the list of featured articles part way down the page.
  14. The HOF is sacred to me. He better not it up.
  15. Never, as far as I know.
  16. You have to be prepared. You can go in with a script of questions, but what usually happens is that you end up tossing the script due to the answers you are receiving from the interviewee. You need to know the material inside and out so you can change things on the fly. Right now, I create a list of bullet points I want to cover with the player. I check things off as I go through the list. That way I can make sure that I cover everything I want to cover. Most importantly, you need to pay attention to what the interviewee is saying. That generates natural follow-up questions, which helps put the interviewee at ease. Proving to them that you are truly interested in what they are saying and are listening to what they are saying makes them more comfortable. That gets them to open up later in the interview. If it sounds like you are going through a script and not discussing what they are saying, you will get the interviewee disinterested in the interview.
  17. As someone who spends a lot of time interviewing players, I can appreciate what it takes to conduct interviews. Some people can be easy interviews, but others can be a beotch. Getting the interviewee to relax and open up can be the most difficult part of the interview. The questions you ask, how you ask them and in what order you ask them is critical to getting a good interview.
  18. Any place that has Victory Hop Devil on tap is in my book.
  19. Thanks, Lori. He had been suffering for a while, but took a quick turn for the worse recently. Lily is relieved that he is no longer suffering.
  20. I just received a call from Don's wife that he passed away on Monday. Another AAFC Bills player passes. -Drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1946 -Drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 1947 -Decided to play for the Bills after graduating from Penn in 1947 (He chose the Buffalo Bills because it was closer to home and he wanted his family and friends to be able to attend the games.) -Started coaching football at the high school level and college level -He and his wife have three sons and a daughter I have not found an obit yet.
  21. Seriously. I am surprised that they honored him, since he passed away a few years ago. They seem to hesitate honoring people that have passed. That is why you will never see Chet Mutryn inducted. He was the first major signing by Red Dawson (Dawson was hired late after Sam Cordovano resigned). Al only had a short time with the Buffalo Bisons in 1946 (8 games, I think). Excellent ball player and was highly touted coming out of college. In fact, he was going to play in Canada after losing over a year of college eligibility, but Dawson convinced him to sign with the Bisons (at the Ithaca Airport). After Buffalo, he went to the Chicago Rockets and then the New York Yankees (the football variety) and the Boston Yanks. He then crossed the border and led the Argos to a Grey Cup championship.
  22. Good for Abe. He was an excellent lineman and deserves the honor. He was part of the three-player deal that gave Buffalo owner Jim Breuil a minority ownership in the Browns. FYI: Al Dekdebrun is receiving the Pride of WNY award from the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.
  23. I was at that game. It was Alumni weekend that weekend and my brother and I were attending the events. Instead of using our normal season tickets (upper level, 50-yard line), we used the tickets from the alumni. That put us in the lower corner of the endzone, in position to see Smith run it in for the final Bills score.
  24. They can definitely do better, but I fear that it will be Eisen. He did the HOF selection stuff and I am guessing NFL Network will want their presence and not ESPN. I am not sure how the contracts work, however.
