  6. First, I will be excited if there is a season...it makes no sense when you have the pro sport with the shortest careers to lose a year -- hopefully saner heads will prevail in June and training camp will begin on time. If there is a year--there will be Free Agency--I still don't have a feel for where Buddy and Chan think the Bills have holes until Free Agency. My guess is they are looking for QB depth (obvious and already said), more T depth, a swing veteran LB (Stephen Cooper), another SS (assuming Whitner says bye-bye). I think they go hard after Florence (3 years - $14M - $7M Guaranteed) and Poz (5 years-$22M, $11M guaranteed) and the rest will be starting experienced players who are obtained for average contracts--like a Cooper - 2 years - $5M, $2M guaranteed. Once the roster is filled out with 4 or 5 moves--here is what I think: 1) Dareus truly proves he can swing from DE in run situations to NT in pass and is a 4 down player. 2) Troup becomes a force and can take 30% of the snaps so Kyle can go hard on every play he is in 3) Poz and Sheppard are chip blocked rather than assigned to OG because the D-line are beasts and out YPC goes from 4.8 to 4.0 (a massive improvement).. 4) The Bills Sack total and pressures go up. Sacks from 27 to 45...if this happens -- interceptions go from 11 to probably double 5) That rush attempts and pass attempts are equal this year rather that 60 pass and 40 run--and that our yards per carry goes to 4.5 from 4.3 6) That Fitz's INT ratio goes from 4.0% to 2.3% due to a better rushing attack and more familiarity with the receiving core.. If we do this--the wins will come. No record prediction--no playoff prediction but we need to get better all the key things--stopping the run, rushing the passer, running the ball and balancing the offense...if we do that we win more and I think they can.

  11. My caveat here is that I want the Bills to take Bowers. I think both SF and AZ would be willing to trade up...the deal with San Fran probably looks like this: - Bills give pick 34 and 100 - Niners give pick 45 and 76 -- possibly throwing in a 4th next year to close the deal over Az. if its the Cardinals - Bills give pick 34 - Cardinals give picks 38 and 103 Bills could package 2 of their three fourths in this scenario to move back into third... I don't think we take any of the QB's left -- Dalton, Mallet, Kapernick, Stanzi--I think we sign a vet FA like Matt Moore--who can play....and is young. One possible really good 1) Trade down with AZ 2) Still get Bowers with pick 38 3) Use our 3rd rounder on the OL at the top of the board 4) Trade back into the end of the third for an ILB
  12. The last couple of days the Commissioner has begun to change his public messages. At the beginning of this recent chapter in the labor dispute it was about teams losing money and the fiscal integrity of the Game. In recent days he has shifted to protecting the draft and not allowing a true mercenary market for players. He is now putting things on the table he knows will likely survive a new CBA so he and the owners can save face. Its a classic retrench. I am not sure the NFLPA's desire is to ever see the draft and free agency go away. While there may be 4 or 5 teams that can spend wildly - the rest will likely be below the current cap and the market for mid-tier players would suffer. The NFLPA is basically on the offensive right now and they are putting everything on the table because they figure what the hell. If Judge Nelson officially ends the lockout today--Roger better tells the owners to settle quick before they lose their shirt. Settling quick means in the range of $1.5B hold back with 58% or so of the rest going to the players...it will end up costing the owners about $750M to $1B over a true 50/50 compromise.

  14. As I look at all the Bills needs--priority one is stopping the run. If the Bills can't do that--it opens up so much for the opposition. Play action is more effective, the pass rush is mitigated. A defense can do a lot more scheming and blitzing if the run D is consistent. Dareus is so disruptive. He excels at fighting through the double team. He has the burst to kick out to DE in passing situations and we will have the talent to rotate in waves of lineman with Dareus. Spence Johnson, Dwan Edwards, Carrington, Troup and our all pro Williams plus Dareus would give the Bills two waves with seemingly no drop off. The Bills need help all over the front seven but adding two potential studs in the first two picks cures a lot of ills. Moats can't help but improve on the Outside and if you add a healthy Merriman we are okay for another year at OL. We need an inside backer to pair with Poz--I am hoping Akeem Ayers drops to us in the second round -- he has slow straight line speed but is a thumper against the run and always seems to be in the right place in coverage. Danny Batten is going to be a good one -- and can probably be effective inside or outside as a utility linebacker...Dareus and Ayers or Martez Wilson in the first two rounds would likely make us a formidable D for the next few years....
  15. Thanks for sharing gfalk. Interesting stuff. In about two years Whaley will likely be our GM. Nice to know he is fan friendly. Interesting comment about Wanny having plans for Maybin since Wanny is technically only ILB coach--this must be other duties as assigned as Assistant Head Coach. Chan (showing Wanny film of Maybin): Dave--see what you can do with 58. Wanny: Since when do we give slow cornerbacks jerseys in the 50's? I didn't know you wanted me to work with the secondary?

  17. Pray all of my Triangle Bills sisters and brothers are okay. I was on I540 at Creedmoor--driving toward Crabtree Valley Mall with my boys in the back of the car coming back from a birthday party. Quarter size hail, debris (mostly roof tiles and a couple of tree branches) hitting the car and really couldn't see. I look quickly in the rear view mirror and two little guys that are normally punching one another are hugging each other with eyes tightly closed. We made it home safe but through all the snow and rain and other crap condition driving I have done -- it was the worst 15 minutes of driving ever. I drove through one devastated area today (Yonkers at the Beltline) and saw how much worse it could have been for me and the boys...A 300' wide path of destruction that went from south of downtown Raleigh north to Brentwood (about 7-8 miles) and then touched down again in Louisburg--another 10 miles or so...scary stuff...
  18. Stars at certain positions like QB on Offense and Rush OLB in the 3-4 make everyone look better...we should, and I stress should, be able to get someone of star quality at #3..less likely at 8-10, even less likely at 22-30....
