  1. John -- this revelation is going to get you that Pulitzer Thanks for hanging out here and lending an informed opinion (Serious about that)...
  2. vtext: The Buffalo Bills have informed the current coaching staff that their obligations to the team for the 2009 season have been completed....
  3. Remember a Broncos Overtime game about 12 years ago....I think AVP was actually the QB. Christie was still the kicker -- he booted something like a 57 yarder to put it into OT. Bills get the ball first and I think Henning was the OC--we were running the crap out of the ball driving right down the field--then Henning calls a double reverse-pass with Andre Reed being the trigger guy-Reed Fumbles gets sacked for about a 20 yard loss--game over-Denver gets a punt --drives it and wins.. If Schottenheimer is that kind of play caller -- No thanks..
  4. He takes a Rookie QB and designs a serviceable O around him -- protecting Sanchez for the most part and they petition to fire him...Its just not fun being an NFL coach in NY..
  5. NFL network did speculate on this....Brian has had a shot or two at interviewing for a head coaching job--Dolphins being one. Bob Glauber from Newsday (pretty well respected NFL chronicler) also speculated http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/gla...g-job-1.1679210
  6. Its never the wrong time for a Gabe Northern Jersey....never the wrong time.
  7. For yucks--lets look at what a Rivera staff might look like-- If you go with the theory that Coaches are creatures of habit and build their network based on where they have coached previously -- Rivera would draw from the Chargers, Bears and Eagles for his coordinators... If Lovie Smith gets the axe-- Ron Turner might be the OC top choice; John Ramsdell (Chargers QB coach); Charlie Joiner (Chargers WR Coach) and Rob Chudzinski (Chargers TE Coach) would be candidates for OC as well. On the D side of the ball-retaining Fewell is always an option--but Steven Wilks (DB Coach Chargers) and Don Johnson (DLine Chargers) both followed Rivera from Chicago. Bill Shuey the Linebacker coach for the Eagles is an up and comer...rumored to be of interest to the Giants if they make a DC change. Jim Babich is the D Coordinator in name only for the Bears. Some other notes: Gill Byrd is an asst. secondary coach for the Bears--can coach his son... Rusty Jones has an assistant with the Bears -- Jim Arthur who joined the Bears at the same time... Interesting stuff...
  8. First player of Puerto Rican descent in the NFL. LB on the Bears Super Bowl Winning 1985 squad. As a coach, he has worked with several different defensive schemes. He is by most accounts a fiery motivator. He has learned at the feed of Buddy Ryan, Jim Johnson. He has made the Chargers D work in spite of some injuries this year. Last year when he took over for Cottrell there was immediate improvement. Rumor had it that he was not renewed in Chicago because his presence was a threat to Lovie Smith. A deep side note: his wife Stephanie was an assistant Coach for the DC WNBA team. I would be happy with this hire I have to say. I know its not what we all want -- but I believe Rivera is going to be a great head coach for someone and I would love that someone to be us....
  9. I am looking for opinions on this. Grimm seems to come up a lot as a candidate. He has never held a coordinators position, he gets passed over every time he interviews. He was a great player with a nasty-hard ass reputation -- but if he is so great why can't he get a head coaching job? Is he the Matt Millen of coaching waiting to happen? What am I missing?
  10. Cool. But I would rather it be Chuck Lester. He's been there longer and Ralph truly knows him. Plus the last head coach we had named Chuck took us to the playoffs. Lester fits the lightning in a bottle description Jim and Thurman outlined in their Q & A's
  11. I am not a huge Weis guy either...but think about something with Brady--they won 10 games without him last year with a QB that couldn't break the starting line-up in college....How many games would the Colts win without Manning...a whole lot less than 10. Its more system in NE than it is Brady. He is great and I wish we had him--but Charlie designed the system. Quinn was average before Charlie got to SB -- he made Quinn a 1st round draft choice.
  12. Have to add Charlie Weis, Brian Schottenheimer and Brian Billick to this list.. In order: Cowher, Fox, Billick, Heimerdinger, Weis, Zimmer, Rivera
  13. It is over, isn't it? Damn..a new era begins...the Chroise is irrelevant... Happy New Year everyone!
  14. I like a few things with this: 1) He is already renowned as a talent evaluator 2) He understands that he and the new coach are a team. He was the only civil bridge between AJ and Schotty in San Diego when it blew up. 3) Its not just building through the draft, its the philosophy he espoused--he mentioned the line coaches, the development of Diehlman in SD, the development of the QB--All things we need. He has a great reputation.......I am only pissed that we didn't give him the job a year ago when he came back. By the way--watch Ron Rivera move quickly to the top 2 or 3 of this coaching search.....
  15. Charisma + Poise = Chroise --- its the Gibran equation....The guy just is a leader. He bridges cultural and religious gaps. He promotes world peace. He starred in NFL-E... What's not to like?
  16. He's a frickin genius then.....I guess you could do the math this way... Brohm 1 Edwards .375 Fitz .425 Chroise 1.2 That's 3....
  17. Buddy said in his press conference that we only have 3 QBs with talent and that all three would be given a shot. I am assuming he was leaving out the Chroise. Buddy -- catch a clue....dang...
  18. Got my call as well. He must have us on speed dial. Thanks Buddy.
  19. I hope you are still asleep. This would qualify as a nightmare...unless its as film alphabetizer....
  20. Highlights of the decade video will be posted as a short on youtube?
  21. This is ugly--thanks for the scoop Lori..
  22. You are correct. The team has the PSL revenue and never has to refund it. The PSL's are revoked if the holder does not renew and then can be resold. The Panthers do allow a transfer of PSL for $300. Last year the Panthers caused an uproar by threatening to revoke PSL's for fans who did not buy playoff tickets. Its not likely that anyone will give up their PSL investment by not renewing--but if my team was planning to go on the cheap for coaching for an anticipated strike year that may or may not happen--It wouldn't show me great commitment to winning.
  23. How many other teams are following this strategy? Approximately zero....Nothing against the Panthers but every pundit I listen to says there will be no strike. This sounds like great messaging cooked up by the PR department. They already have trouble selling out--would you buy PSL's and season tickets to a team that is already planning to cut costs for an unlikely strike year. This just adds to the argument that the Panthers under current ownership do not have the resources to be competitive. They are sitting in the middle of a pretty significant wealth pocket in Charlotte (Spaulding, McColl, Lewis, Bowles, Schwab, and many others)..they are just majority owned right now by the wrong guy.
  24. The new ownership investment would fund Cowher -- but his price would be more reasonable to stay in Carolina, word has it a 30-40% discount in salary which would be about $6.5M/per year - (Note that Fox is scheduled to make $6M in 2010). Cowher would receive limited partner status with the new ownership group. The new ownership would not fund a lucrative extension for John Fox.
