Peter King: Jahri Evans still on block(update:signed ext.)
JoeF replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills need a T more than a guard. We only have 3 T's on the roster and one may not even be an NFL backup (Cyrus)....I think both 50 and 81 are OL picks -- and my dream is that: One of Peat, Humphries, Clemmings, Humphries, Fisher or Flowers falls to 50 One of Tomlinson, Cann, Jackson fall to 81... Is that too much to ask? -
Teams are having trouble placing Shaq. I agree its likely he won't make it past the high 30's but some boards have him in the 70's. That's the concept of someone falling, right? On Scherff -- never implied he would fall. What I wrote was the Bills could wait on G to the 3rd round or later because of depth of the position in the draft. The Bills however should grab one of the top 4 or 5 OTs if they fall to 50. Right now the Bills have 3 T's on the roster and one of those may not be an NFL caliber player (Cyrus). The position needs quality competition. There was a reason they went hard after Bulaga...

Here would be the hard to pass up list for me at 50: Any of the non-injured OTs: Peat, Collins, Clemmings, Humphries or Flowers slides -- Humphries in particular if some teams are worried about his youth. The draft is deep at G -- Scherff, Cann, Jackson, Tomlinson, Miller, Shaq Mason and some T's who will be guards in the pros -- Williams (OK), Brown (Louisville)..Bills can wait A large D lineman -- Jordan Phillips and Carl Davis Another ILB -- McKinney, Perryman or Kendricks--all show 3 down ability Rex loves corners -- Just keep this in mind....one of the corners with a first round grade slides For later round slips-here are some guys that I think fit the schemes...and could get playing time this year and be held in reserve for future veteran departures -- in the spirit of the Whaley article from Carruci Yolo posted above.. RD 3: Shaq Thompson -- swiss army knife Rex would love to scheme for... RD 5 and 6: Jamon Brown- Louisville-An OT in a Guards body and mentality Anthony Harris - S - UVA Ben Koyack- TE - ND Quality blocker with receiving skill that can be developed Antwan Goodley - WR Baylor David Johnson - UNI RB Tony Lippett - WR MSU - good skills as a WR and also played corner effectively this year in a game... RD 7: Zach Wagenmann - OLB Montana... Zach Zenner - South Dakota State RB/FB

Bills Big Spender - calculated or reckless?

Irresponsible or Reckless is not having a plan -- I believe the Bills have a plan. Its something like this: Teams don't want to lose their young core. I consider the Bills young core the following: Offense Clay Watkins Henderson Glenn Defense Dareus Gilmore Bradham Hughes AJ Williams Everyone else on the roster can be restructured, traded or cut to make room for these 9 players. Glenn, Gilmore, Bradham and Dareus are not locked up long term (3 or more years). You have to make room for them. The Bills can't be sentimentalists. Kyle Williams and Mario Williams may have to sacrifice or be sacrificed to keep Dareus; Eric Wood may have to sacrifice or be sacrificed to keep Glenn. Leodis might be sacrificed to keep Gilmore. You have to draft smart to build depth to prepare to lose these older core and non-core players that take up the cap room from the young core. You also have to build so attractive a culture and so much of a winner that older guys will sacrifice to keep the team together. As for the Bills--Mario knows that his cap hit next year will be reduced with more up front money. In a perfect situation Mario would basically add a year or two at a low salary in exchange for a large guaranteed payment next year to keep Dareus, like Kyle did this year to keep Hughes....it will happen if the Bills win this year. Clay will do the same next year...to keep a young good LT in the fold. For the first time in a while I think the Bills have a generous financial plan that involves managing the cap with up front guarantees in exchange for low cost extensions for older core players and letting them play out their career for a winner. The Bills did not have the generous guarantee option under Mr. Wilson but do under the Pegulas and this is really the key to make the plan work. Fans should be excited. -
So much to ponder on this one....Incognito would develop carpal tunnel from texting so much..

Vet min for a 6 year vet is $745K... Rookie cap hits for where the bills are drafting are about $4.1 million (overthecap figures for our draft positions) but they get a credit back for each draft pick signed because the picks will end up in the top 53 and bump someone down...so there is probably about $1.5 million in credit coming back...not a lot of flexibility but some.. -
Here was mine using NDT scouting....I got Cann in the 5th round...no way... 50: R2P18 OT DARYL WILLIAMS OKLAHOMA 81: R3P17 TE MAXX WILLIAMS MINNESOTA 155: R5P19 G A.J. CANN SOUTH CAROLINA 187: R6P12 S ANTHONY HARRIS VIRGINIA 193: R6P18 DT TYELER DAVISON FRESNO STATE 234: R7P17 OLB JORDAN HICKS TEXAS Wonder if Whaley would take this one today if given the option...plus it solidifies our league leadership in Williams'

Hero in this is FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler who put pressure on the NFL like none of his predecessors would. -

He was a pretty good college WR at first UCLA and then Washington in late 80's early 90's. Played on the Husky national championship team in 92. -
The Offensive Line: Better Than Advertised?
JoeF replied to Rob's House's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with the OP. My reasoning is a little different... I think the skill position signings the Bills will take pressure off the line....Roman will use the skill personnel in unique ways to create mismatches and force the D to either shift or give up easy plays that keep the chains moving. Bills have weapons that need to be doubled (Watkins and Harvin); are constant breakaway run threats (Harvin and Shady) and also skill position players who are top tier blockers (Clay and Felton)... An example--lets say its 3rd and 3.....Formation is 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB set -- The formation starts with twins right with Watkins and Woods- Percy motions from left to right making it trips--left is the strong side with the TE-- D was planning to double Harvin with a short corner to take away the slant or out and a safety deep...When Harvin motions --if the D shifts with Percy -- Cassel sees the defense shift with Percy and calls the run option off this formation. Its an off tackle to the strong side. Wood and the LG hit the DT and gum the MLB. Cordy seals the DE and Clay chips him. Clay then peels to the second level and hits the OLB....Shady is one on one in space with the OLB with Clay as a lead blocker who gets late DB help due to the shift. If the D does not shift with Harvin -- Two of the Wideouts run sprints and the widest runs a 5 yard delayed sluggo into open space --Easy pickings..where the line is holding only for a 3 count at most... There are a ton of situations like this. Roman will use the skill position personnel to create biases in the D to take pressure off line...and having Clay and Felton are like adding two hybrid blockers to the system. The offense will be simple like the Pats offense -- 10-15 base plays but mixed with motion, different formations to promote mastery of the plays. This is how you play when you have talent. As for QB, there was no confidence in EJ last year to make these type of reads--this is where Cassel excels and hopefully EJ and Taylor have learned...This offense is get the ball out of the QBs hands and into the hands of a playmaker ASAP with enough deep threat to keep the D honest.....while the triggerman is still important he's more of a band leader than lead guitar and vocals.... I am excited because talent leads to both simplicity and creating mismatches -- the Bills have enough talent on Offense now to create a lot of mismatches and this takes pressure off the line because instead of aggression the D has to think ...Still would like to see the Bills get a rookie OL who has played inside and outside on the line early...but I think the Bills have enough now to improve because scheming and skill position weapons are both upgraded. -
Thanks for recognizing my Feast Day Pooj....

Charles Clay REPORT: Dolphins won't match offer sheet

What do you think will happen with Charles Clay?
JoeF replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rex already knows Dolphins decision. He and Tannenbaum likely either talk or text every day. I voted that the Phins will match -- only because Stephen Ross will make this decision and he absolutely hates to lose negotiations and this will be a loss in his eyes. I would be very, very happy to be wrong... -

Things we will hear from Murph and Kelso this fall.. Murph: Hand off to McCoy---cut back to the edge, nice seal block by Clay--Shady's at the 40 the 50 the 40 into the secondary brought down after a 32 yard run.. Murph: Taylor fakes the handoff and drops, scans the field, Sammy open at the right side line at the 20 the 15 the 10 -- Touchdown. Mark--he was wide open Kelso: Murph--the Cowboys couldn't figure out who to cover -- its the pick your poison offense--and that play they stacked for the run -- a lb and SS went with Clay; they also doubled Harvin leaving Sammy one on one..... No "Stats" for Clay on either play---but he was key in making both happen.. -
Will the Bills ever sign Charles Clay?

Tim Tebow Working Out With Eagles
JoeF replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tebow's just taking it easy...I think life's been good to him so far...maybe he will end up at a nice hotel in California... Best line from the show I saw at MSG was Glenn saying at the break -- Well folks we have to take a short break -- we're all old and have to pee...
