Trent Richardson story getting messy in Indy
JoeF replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree Richardson is overweight...even with the weight loss the lack of instinct and cut back still bothers me. He would be a good situational short yardage back -- better than what the Bills have...but Boobie does a hell of a job on special teams so I wouldn't want to sacrifice that roster spot. If I had the choice between Richardson and Ingram for CJ's roster spot -- I go Ingram. If its for Brown's roster spot -- I would go Brown -- because he has instinct and cut back -- along with fumbles (dang). I can see your point though..immense potential -- worth the risk with Richardson. -
Bradford is not that tough to value. His injury history -- 2 completed seasons, 2 partial seasons and 1 missed season and a completion percentage that has never busted the magical 62% level in many reps and one year left on his deal -- scream a couple of day 3 picks or a 3rd rounder. I would look at something like this...4th rounder this year and a conditional 3rd next year....conditional third is a guaranteed 4th but 800 snaps makes it a third. If it was Sanchez for no picks or Bradford for these 2 picks I would take Bradford...but anything more than this and I would lean toward Sanchez.

Its really hard to teach instinct and TR doesn't have it...he is powerful and fast but can't find a hole unless its the designed play...If I were the Bills I would go after another Bama product Mark Ingram. He's got some injury history but pretty low miles in the pros. Hits the hole hard, excellent cut back and vision, showed he can catch and he is peaking. Something like 4 years $16 million, $8 million guaranteed. Make him the centerpiece of the bully running game. When Anthony Lynn, Roman and Kromer look at the end of the season tape on Ingram they will see Frank Gore with less miles. The Bills need a workhorse running back bad (what a change from 2 years ago) but runners will be falling all over themselves to work with Roman...The Bills will run about 600 running plays in the upcoming year (a total reversal from last year's ratio) ... We need 4 backs to split about 550 carries (QB designed runs will be about 3 times a game) -- Ingram 275, Brown 100, Fred 125, Dixon 50...backs will also catch about 80 balls this upcoming year -- that's a lot of touches to go around. The offensive identity is to put the QB in a position to make uncontested plays in the pass game -- the only way I know to do this is to keep the running game the focus and make the QB enough of a threat to run that the D is on their heels. The Bills need another strong guard to make this work -- but they are almost ready to role. -
kdiggz I would agree if there was substantial starting experience with McCown...last year was only the third year in a long career he has been anything but a back up. He has 49 starts in 12 years (with one out of the league). I seriously doubt signing McCown -- probably at something more like $3.5 million -- is going to deter Sanchez from wanting to reunite with Rex or any other FA QB with more starting experience from looking at the Bills. Its definitely not going to break the QB bank--the Bills are spending nothing at QB right now ($3 million cap hit between Manuel and Tuel). If the Bills choose to sign him -- its a start at re-making the position--not a finish.

I'd be disappointed if the Bills didn't evaluate him and bring him in for a visit. The free agent market doesn't look great. The draft is not going to yield much where they are drafting and the Bills get a chance to have an experienced back-up with some starting work in early...his stats are crappy -- but he hasn't exactly played on stellar squads. For 5 games in 2013 he made the Bears look better than they looked with Cutler. McCown career - 17-32 as a starter including 1-10 in 2014........ McCown after 2013 from Pro Football Focus. Positives • Graded at +6.5 on passes in 11-20-yard range. • Showed well on 2nd-and-Long (+3.9) and 3rd-and-Long (+4.4). • Threw well to the middle (+9.9) and right (+6.4). • Posted league’s highest grade when pressured: +8.9. • Graded well against the blitz (+9.0) and against a traditional rush (+8.5). • Was at his best on 7-to-8-yard drop-backs (+15.7). • Excelled in the 2.6-to 3.0-second range (+12.5). • Graded at +18.1 when throwing to wide receivers (by alignment) including +9.5 to the slot and +8.6 to outside wide receivers. • Best routes were hitches (+5.9) and go routes (+7.0). Negatives • Graded at -1.4 on designed rollouts. • Posted an average +0.1 grade on passes in the 31-to-40-yard range. • Graded at -0.9 on 4-to-6-yard drop-backs. • Graded at -0.6 on slants and -0.9 on post routes. Tendencies • Faced the blitz only 27.6% of the time, eighth-lowest in the league. • Above the league average with 21.4% of drop-backs coming in the 4-to-6-yard range. • 17.3% of drop-backs lasted 3.1-3.5 seconds, highest percentage in the league. • Threw only 40.1% of passes outside the numbers, sixth-lowest in the league. • Threw 78.3% of passes to wide receivers (by alignment), fourth-highest in the league. • Threw only 14.5% of passes to tight ends, tied for the lowest percentage in the league. • 11.6% of targets were slants, second-highest in the league.

Would you trade our 2016 1st rd pick for Drew Brees?

Rex is cheap...doesn't buy clothes just wears the freebie Bills stuff...wonder if he drives a Taurus? Classic stuff. Best interview by a Bills coach since Marv left. The guy is knowledgeable, glib, funny. If the Bills can't win at least the fan base will be entertained.

After someone on the board proves themselves as legit-- in my book that's one rumor thread the poster breaks/initiates that comes true--maybe the mods should pin future rumor threads initiated from those select few posters. Make it like a draft pick thread. Give it 72 hours of air time to judge the veracity. If it becomes abused -- lots of threads with rumors that don't pan out -- go back to what we have now which is putting these threads into the rest of the TSW postings without pinning. It just seems like those who have proven contacts should receive special attention. I would hope the majority of us would not want to run off folks who have legitimate access to insider information or a beat reporter for the team that chooses to post on the board -- but the community has run off both types of posters. That seems counter productive. Would really like to figure out a way to keep these folks around....

Derek Jeter examined buying the Bills
JoeF replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It would have been a culture shock for him....he may not have survived. Jeter only played in about 20 games his whole career where the Yankees were eliminated from playoff contention...the Bills have played the last two months of seasons eliminated from playoff contention. Jeter and the Bills are both Mr. October/Early November... -
Patriots announce press conf for 1/24
JoeF replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think most other franchises would do this...they would want to clear their name if they truly didn't alter the inflation of the balls..however this is the most opaque franchise in sports..and they will do anything to gain an ounce of competitive advantage including making their own interpretation of the rules. While Kraft seems like a likable and honorable individual he knows what he has in Belichick and gives him full control. -

It will be a ball boy or an assistant director of equipment ops -- they will find DNA on an inflation/deflation needle.. and they will stop there. Meanwhile Colonel Jessup who ordered the code red will walk away with a small fine...and a lost 7th rounder. -

They will tab some flunky with with the rule breaking. Immediately fire him. Belichik will be fined a paltry amount and they will lose a meaningless draft pick. Easy fix for a team that has the Commissioner in their pocket. -
