I understand. And those are fair points. Let's see if we least agree on this before I move on as I don't want to bombard the thread. 1. Spags has had massive defensive games in the playoffs, including some of the best ever which led to Super Bowl wins 2. McDermotts defences typically do great in the regular season but struggles a lot in the playoffs 3. Yes Spags has had bad games in the playoffs , like any defensive coordinator. (Including McDermott To say the least) 4. Yes bills have had more injuries in the playoffs than the chiefs on defence. Anything you disagree with there?
-
Ok. So are you actually saying McDermotts defence is NOT the reason why the bills haven't won a championship? Josh Allen's last 4 playoff exits. 29 TDs and 1 INT. Do I need to say more?
-
Huh? Spags coached a UNIT three separate times to a championship. Not a player. A UNIT. Go to any championship his team has won, and you'll see an epic defensive performance or two along the way. That was a horrible analogy buddy, so I hope you're done after that
-
The conversation is Spags vs Mcdermott sir. Until McDermott can win a Super Bowl backed by his defence actually showing up, I can't even put him in the same conversation as Spags. All good though , we can agree to disagree buddy
-
Him not getting a head coaching job has nothing to do with his defence. A lot more traits to be a head coach rather than just coaching a good unit. (Age, leadership etc- the list goes on) He has coached his defence to 3 Super Bowl wins, and maybe had the greatest display ever against the 2007 pats. And you're focusing on a few bad playoff games? Should we go over McDermott's bad playoff games? I don't think we can over the good ones, because they there aren't many
-
I would take Spags 10/10 times over McDermott. Are you forgetting his 2007 year with the giants where he held the greatest offence of all time to 14 points in the Super Bowl? I don't care about regular season stats where McDermott dominates rookie and mediocre QBs- To keep it simple: McDermotts defence crumbles in the playoffs, Spags defences rises to the top. Its really hard to hard argue that ^

Ya Bills and Chiefs rosters are very similar IMO- 3 things give the Chiefs the slight edge, and only one of them is a player: -Chris Jones -Andy Reid -Spags

Game week thread - Ravens at Bills SNF

I'm a diehard bills fan, but trying to down play Lamar just doesn't make sense to me. He has been to a championship game before in 2023. Hes a 2x MVP and inarguably a top 4 QB in the game. Would I take Josh over him ? Yes, cause he has been more clutch in the playoffs. But Lamar is an amazing QB who will probably be a hall of famer one day -

Depends if you count Hoecht and Ogunjobi or not -
Knox was picked in the early 3rd, and was given a 2nd big contract. That's a lot invested in him. It's not like he's a UDFA on the vet minimum. In January playoff games, Sean McDermott and Joe Brady are trying to win football games. They aren't trying to "justify" Brandon Beanes draft picks
-
I just gave you an example where Elam was a 1st round pick and benford was a 6th round pick in the same draft class. Yet, Benford started week 1 over him in 2022 as Elam couldn't beat him out. If what you're saying is true about draft position and return on investment, then Elam would have been the starter over Benford and Dane Jackson . But it wasn't the case.
-
I don't think his draft position has anything to do with feeding him 3x more targets than Knox every year. Knox if anything is making a lot of money, so you would think they would want to get more value out of that contract. Elam was drafted in the 1st round, but he could never beat out the 6th round rookie in Benford or even Dane Jackson. Point being: The Bills are trying to win a Super Bowl and they are going to play the best players regardless of draft position, contracts etc.
-
Kincaid has 100-120 targets a year. Knox gets like 30-35. Why is that the case? It's pretty simple- It's because Kincaid is a way superior receiving option than Knox. Unless you think McDermott , Joe Brady and Josh Allen are punishing Dawson Knox, the Bills are literally telling us that they also think Kincaid is a much better receiving tight end from that target share. I'm not even sure how it's debatable
-
Ya to a certain extent I agree with you about those advanced stats . But Kincaid has shown in the nfl he can play at a pretty high level. His rookie season he had 70 plus catches and almost 700 yards which is extremely good for a rookie TE. So i do think those stats, matchup up with the advanced stats, that the dude can clearly create separation and produce. For whatever reason last year him and Josh weren't on the same page. And It has been confirmed that he played through some pretty tough bilateral knee injuries. I do think he has been slightly disappointing the first two seasons in totality. But i just can't fathom saying that Knox is as good as him when it comes to being a receiving tight end. It's not even close IMO
-
How is he a better receiver? I seriously have no idea how a lot of people can think this. Kincaid missed 4 games last year, plus had 2 busted knees, and his receiving output last year is basically the same as Dawson Knox's last 2 years combined.
-
Haha no I knew people were down on Kincaid. But to the point where people are saying a guy with 44 catches and under 500 yards combined in 2 seasons is a better receiver than him? That's just crazy to me lol.
-
Those numbers don't factor in the lack of chemistry with Josh though . (Like you mentioned in your post) To my understanding, he had some of the highest uncatchable throws in the NfL when targeted . For whatever reason him and Josh weren't clicking. I don't have the advanced stats for route percentage winning at the top of my head, but if I heard correctly from Joe Marino, Kincaid is extremely good. Also , teams in the beginning of the year game planned heavily for Kincaid. (Some times being tripled teamed in the Arizona game). No one game plans against Knox and draws of course much more favourable matchups.
-
Saying Knox is a better receiver just tells me you either just have it out for Kincaid, or you just don't watch the bills on a consistent basis. (Respectfully) I believe it's your hatred towards Kincaid though. Knox has 44 catches and under 500 yards combined the last 2 seasons. There is ZERO world where he is a better receiver than Kincaid. And im not a "kincaid fan boy". I think he's been somewhat disappointing the first two years. But saying Knox is a better receiver than Kincaid just shows you have an agenda on Kincaid. Because no receiving stat or advanced stat will show that to be anywhere remotely true.
-
For sure. I'm not here to say Kincaid is great. Because so far I would say he's been slightly dissapointing through two seasons. I just can't go to a world where I'm even close to saying Knox is better than him though. Knox is a descent player who has value to this team. But at the end of day he's an overpaid blocking TE2, who can occasionally make a nice play in the passing game.
