  1. Chan Gailey career NFL head coaching record: 31-43 = 41.9% Dick Jauron's career NFL head coaching record: 60-82 = 42.3% According to this stat, Jauron has a very slight edge on who sucks less. However, my eye test says Gailey is better. Under Jauron, the Bills could almost never move the ball and on defense had a fairly successful "bend but don't break" style. This lead to unwatchable games for a fan as the other team would consistently convert on 3rd down while the Bills never could. I would prefer Gailey.
  2. It is an injury that has rendered him unable to perform or cover effectively; so the injury has not changed his status, haha. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm still holding out a little bit of hope for the guy, but his career certainly isn't looking promising at this juncture.
  3. The guy seriously can't win around here. He had a number of disruptive plays and got us a drive-stopping sack and we still bash him. I'm embarrassed to be a Bills fan every time I see a post like this or he has to answer a question about how Buffalo is disappointed in him.
  4. Shep: "It's those that look at numbers that really don't know football." Hey Shep, I take it you have never seen MoneyBall, haha. It's a good movie, I recommend you watch it. Hey Shep I've got a few numbers for ya. 550+ yards; 2 games in a row. Here's a couple more; 3-4. How about these: 48, 52, 45 (points given up in individual games). Do those mean anything Shep? My opinion on Shep is he is a very likable guy personally. As a player, the jury is still out on him in my mind. However, to the OPs point, I rarely see him shed a block so I am leaning towards the fact that he is a subpar player. I am not yet committed to that though as I need more of a body of work to make a judgment. But yeah, I'm not a fan of the denial. Leaders have to take full responsibility even when it is not your fault. You have to put it on your shoulders. You can't pawn it off and say, "oh well we're not as bad as the numbers." Own your poor performances.
  5. I probably did use the word great a bit too loosely. I'm not making a prediction he is going to be DeMarcus Ware or Clay Matthews year in and year out, but he will be a better than good player. I think he will make a couple of pro bowls. He will never live up to a 100 million dollar contract. However, double digit sacks is a good year and I would expect it most years. That is how I would expect he wil do.
  6. I just felt the need to make this post. There is too much premature Mario bashing that has been going on since week 1. People literally deemed him a bad sign after the Jets game and started ragging on him. I think he is an elite talent who has good character. He will work out in the end so quit your impulsive whining. Mark my words.
  7. I like the plan for the most part. What do you say we do coaching wise next year though? Keep Chan?
  8. I'm seriously tired of this Mario Bashing. It literally started immediately after the Jets game. Talk about a colossal mistake; Mario signing in Buffalo. Cause now he has to deal with the bipolar and irrational Bills fanbase.
  9. Like some others have stated, what's with all this Mangini talk? I have not examined his defensive record/resume but my sense is he's nothing special. Can the OP make a more convincing argument citing defensive statistics during his tenure as both DC and head coach? Otherwise, I'm not buying it. One other point I want to make is I don't think there is a DC out there who could be dominant if the D is playing soft. Now is it the DC's responsibility to insure accountability and tough play? Yes, but he can only influence it to an extent. I am starting to wonder if Wanny is the root of the problem or if the p*ssies playing soft on defense are the root.
  10. I was quite surprised myself when I saw Chan Gailey's press conference on it. He knew nothing about it. He knew nothing about the procedure nor the the extent of the injury. I literally was saying in my head, "This is really wierd. The head coach should know these things." His lack on info and dumbfoundedness struck me as very puzzling and out of touch. I would think there would be some repercussions in regards to this for Mario. I didn't think players can just say, "Hey trainer buddy, tell coach I'm not coming to practice this week. I'll be back next week." and not even talk to the head coach about it. It seems as though he has no respect for the team's agenda. Wouldn't you at least talk to the head coach about it? This is wierd. It is clear there is a disconnect between Mario and some important members of the organization. This discord is not good.
  11. Wow, our standards have gotten low. Perry Fewell is not the answer and my opinion of the IQ of Bills fans drops each time I see someone call for him.
  12. I don't want a young up and comer fiery experiment. I want a guy with a nearly flawless resume on defense which is why I mentioned Wade Phillips and Mike Nolan. If you look at their career of the 1st year they took over defenses, the results are dramatic; ALWAYS vast improvement. I will be happy with nothing less. While guys like Kevin Greene seem appealing, they have no proven d-coordinator record to go on. I don't want those guys.
  13. This team would be a playoff team if we had a defensive guru. We need a Mike Nolan/Wade Phillips type. I guarantee we would have a very respectable defense if the scheme/leadership was there on defense. It might be wishful thinking, but since we are Buffalo, we have to offer big dough to draw coaches. I would be satisfied this offseason if we kept Gailey but offered big dough to a proven defensive coach and got a QB in the 1st round of the draft to develop. If we are willing to drop $100 million on a player, how can you not be willing to drop a couple million on a coordinator who can maximize the success of these players that are paid so much. It is well worth the investment. I know, people will say Ralph doesnt pay top dollar for coaching, but if you are going to pay a guy $17 million a year (Mario) and not use him right, then that is a wasted investment. It is wise to bring in coaches that can set people up for success to allow your other investments (like player contracts) to pan out. It is a smart business decision. One complication: Gailey only makes $600,000 per year. It would be pretty odd to pay a coordinator more than the coach but we will have to offer in the millions to get a top notch D-coordinator in Buffalo.
  14. I'm getting pretty sick of all the Mario Williams bashing. While his play has not blown anybody away, what did we expect, 2 sacks a game? Give him time. People were all over has *ss after like 1 game, it's ridiculous. To be quite honest if a whole fanbase started bashing me after a couple poor performances, I'm not sure how motivated I would be. Sorry to say it, but I think the fan bashing players decreases their desire to play hard. Give him time. We're 7 games in and he has 3.5 sacks. That's not that bad. I am behind Mario. I do think the defense as a whole has not played with high effort and that better change, but I am not jumping on the Mario-bashing bandwagon. I think he is a high character guy.
  15. Pop back in occassionally Big Cat. I hope the Bills Brass is taking note that die hard fans are starting to shy away from Bills fanhood. I know you said you would still watch and all, but I really think a lot of people are making a conscious effort at this point to be less in-tune. I know I am. Anyway, I don't know ya well but see you have a lot of posts. Enjoy the free time that you find from not spending it on here. Hopefully, you will find something more fruitful than the Bills. Peace brother.
  16. I really don't get why they didn't put him on the list in the first place. It's not like it has been a big secret. Mario has openly talked about the injury in his press conferences. I mean, he has been wearing a full blown cast for a couple games. It's not like the Bills were running some covert mission to keep this a secret. Why wouldn't they just put him on the list? Way to go Bills. I don't think a $20,000 fine to Ralph will score any points for Chan hahs, especially for no apparent reason.
  17. He actually already tweeted an article acknowledging the report. It was a Buffalo News article in which he was interviewed about the report and his play. He handled it with class and professionalism. Unfortunately, he just hasnt been a very good player.
  18. Once again, this is an example that the obvious observations that fans make are valid. Bills fans have been saying Williams play has been conspicuously bad for a while, while coaches tried to justify it. I hate to say it, but Aaron has had significant time in this league now. From the get-go he was getting smoked. I actually feel for the 1st time that I have seen a little improvement with him so I am holding out a tiny bit of hope, but things do not look good for him. Very rarely does a guy struggle from the get go, continue to do so for more than a year longer and then turn into a formidable player. It just rarely happens. I guess let him keep trying for a little while, but I might be in favor of trying him at safety as others have mentioned. Maybe he can flourish there, who knows.
  19. No, but I am an Indiana University basketball fan and they are the preseason number 1 this year. Hopefully, it is my year!
  20. I highly doubt Buddy would part with the necessary picks to get him. Also, it would have to be contingent on him signing a long term deal since we would not trade picks and then give him the opportunity to walk at the end of the season. Thirdly, Fitzpatrick can't even get Stevie enough catches even though he is consistently open. If there were two studs (Bowe and Stevie), I really think we have a formula for a discontented offense. If Bowe and Stevie are averaging 3 catches a game for 30 yeards each because PicksHatTrick can't get throw an accurate ball downfield, I think that is a recipe for disaster.
  21. Not unless there is a trade for him. I would guess strongly that he is dissatisfied with the QB and offensive situation in KC. Do you think Fitz will be able to draw him? I think not. He knows he is underachieving for his talent and Buffalo is not the place to go to rectify that. Until we get our QB situation settled, we are very lucky to have Stevie, who consistently gets seperation.
  22. I would not want Holmgren as GM. He botched the Browns job hardcore. I would probably want him as coach though. He took two different teams to the super bowl that way; Seahawks (maybe could have won if it weren't for officiating, and the Packers of course).
  23. I don't doubt the Eagles have other good pieces in the front office, but Head Coach is a huge role in player development, scheme and in-game decision making which have huge impact on franchise success. Reid deserves at least a sizable portion of the credit. I too have some concerns with him, but its hard to argue with this record.
