Google to bid on Sunday Ticket? (link inside)
Peter replied to Beebes Bubble's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love the way it is now, because it works for me. Directv has been great and usually gives it to me for free (or at least discounts the price of the Sunday Ticket). I also have the DVR set to automatically record anything related to the Buffalo Bills. Now that I married with children, there are times when I am unable to watch a game live (or in person). Whatever happens with the package, I hope that there is a way to watch it in my home theatre both live and later. Just my two cents. -
LB Nigel Bradham Charged with Majijuana Possesion
Peter replied to brucethomas34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As an aside, it is funny that the Tonawanda News broke this story. When was the last time that the Buffalo News broke a story about the Bills or Sabres? -
Well said.

I agree.

I do not find it remarkable that someone would post about Nassib given that so many people -- including many in the Buffalo media -- were saying that we should pick him with the 8th pick in the draft. I am sure if he does well and EJ does not, people will post about this. As for me, I am very pleased that we drafted EJ based on what I have seen so far.

Me too. I had the opportunity to meet him a few times. Great guy. Great Buffalonian.

English Premiere League soccer debuts on NBC this weekend
Peter replied to John Adams's topic in Off the Wall Archives
This is hilarious. FWIW, I am an Arsenal fan. -
Thank you!!!

I love Hard Knocks. I really enjoyed last night's show. It was heartbreaking to see Larry Black get hurt. That Oklahoma drill is intense (I remember doing it back when I played in high school - it is not for the faint of hear). I really got a kick out of watching Gresham and Geno Atkins go at it. When you watch and appreciate what these guys do and the risks that they take each day, it puts the one note keyboard jockeys into context. On the one hand, you have guys in sports (or other endeavors) who take all of the risks and try to accomplish something, on the other hand, you have the "critics" with their own agendas who, even with the benefit of 20-20 hindsight, have trouble getting it right.

Drew Brees leaves $3 tip on take-out order
Peter replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Close - Pinecrest, which is in Miami-Dade. -
As an aside, I heard an interview of Carrington that Murph did on his show (I listened to it on demand) a few weeks back. Carrington seems to be a very intelligent guy. Also, if I recall correctly, he is supposed to be a pretty good musician.

League to Crack Down on Celebrations, etc.
Peter replied to uncle flap's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In that context (directed at an opposing player), the application of the rule should be fine. There should not be any taunting. On the other hand, genuine and natural reactions to scoring a TD seem to still be allowed, which is good. -
I am expecting big things from Carrington this year. Let's hope that we can get both him and Byrd signed long term.

League to Crack Down on Celebrations, etc.
Peter replied to uncle flap's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is too far. There are a lot of celebrations that clearly are excessive and guys should act like they have been in the end zone before, but this is way too far. Football is an emotional game. Scoring a TD is exhilarating. As long as the celebration is natural, I have no problem. -
I have posted this before, but I am convinced that Sullivan and some of the other Buffalo media guys post here anonymously. There have been some, such as John W., who post using their own name. As for Sullivan, I have no problem with people pointing out his obvious flaws. The irony is that it seems as though Sullivan and other members of the Buffalo media (and their defenders) have much thinner skin than the guys they criticize/attack.

Drew Brees leaves $3 tip on take-out order

That is very funny . . . and sadly true. The Buffalo News guys would really go to town with that story. -

As I said, you do not have to tip. It is YOUR money. I choose to tip in restaurants other than QSRs (BK, McDonald's etc). That is my choice. -

In many of those restaurants, it is the waiters/waitresses that put together your order. For example, we get take out a lot from two places down here (Sushi Rock and Flannigan's). At both of those places, the waitresses put together your order. They make less than minimum wage. Nevertheless, I am not telling you or anyone else to tip. Do what you want. It is YOUR money. For me, it is the right thing to do. -

Service people get less than minimum wage (as far as I know based on my experience). They work off of tips. That is the big difference. Regarding the police: I am the president of our homeowners association. When I became president, I tried to start a tradition of sending over some Christmas goodies. When we sent our package over, they had to reject it because of some internal policy. In addition to waiters etc., I give Christmas gifts to the lady that delivers the paper, the mailman, the garbage men, and the pool guy. In addition to being the right thing to do (for me), believe me when I tell you that our paper is always delivered and is dry, our mailman makes the extra effort to come to the front door when we are home, the garbage men bring our garbage cans to the top of the driveway, and our pool is always clean. Clearly, tipping is not required. No one has to do it. I choose to do it. -

Apparently, Drew needs an explanation. If you are picking up food in a restaurant (other than a fast food restaurant), the right thing to do is to tip. There is no law that says you should tip then or at any other time, but it is the right thing to do -- especially if you are planning on going back. There was that movie a while back with Steve Martin (I think it was called My Blue Heaven or something like that) where he played a mobster in the witness protection program. He said something like: "I do not believe in tipping. I believe in over tipping." I take the same approach when the service is good. Maybe, it is because I was a waiter when I was in school. When the service is not any good or the food is bad, my approach is not to send the food back or anything like that. I just never go back. -
I noticed that too. It was an echo chamber. As I wrote in another post, to paraphrase Chris Berman, no one circles the wagons like Buffalo sports reporters - especially the guys from the Buffalo News. Sully and Harrington hit their nadir at the Sabres PC. So true.
-
John, I hope you read my earlier post where I complimented you. I put you in a completely different category from Sullivan, Gleason, and Harrington. Yet, I got to tell you, to paraphrase Chris Berman, no one circles the wagons like Buffalo sports reporters. Regarding Mario: Two and one-half days of negotiating a deal: It took me more than two and one-half days to decide to move to Miami and accept an offer from a law firm here coming out of law school 26 years ago - and believe me, my initial salary as a lawyer did not have as many zeros as Mario's contract. Inconsistent performance on a porous defense: The Bills had a porous defense. There are eleven guys on defense (not to mention the departed DC). Obviously, Mario was not the only reason for how the defense performed. We all would have wanted him to be more dominating. He did get 10.5 sacks however. He was inconsistent, but his play picked up after he had his procedure. To his credit, he did not miss a game and played through it. Guys like Sully (especially on his WGR spots) always seemed to question whether there was an injury and, in turn, his manhood. He continues to do so after missing a couple of practices to take care of his foot several weeks before the first regular season game. Engagement: Are you kidding me with this? Comments on Pettine's style: I am not sure what you are talking about. All I have heard is that he is excited to play in the new defense. Paul Hamilton was talking about this yesterday or the day before on WGR. Posting a Questionable Hernandez Drawing: Are you talking about the Grand Theft Auto New England thing? I have heard a lot of jokes etc. about Hernandez from a lot of different people. I really don't care. I also have found that different people of different backgrounds and ages have different senses of humor. When I was a teenager, I used to recite Richard Pryor routines with one of my best friends (who happened to be black) with whom I played football. While I still think that Richard Pryor is hilarious, I would not recite many of those routines any more -- except the one with the punch line: "And, it's deep too." [Those of you that know the joke are probably laughing right now]. John, you have built up a lot of credibility in my book. I respect your opinion, because I do not think that you have a particular agenda or narrative you are pushing. I disagree with you at times - for example, your take on whether the Bills should have tagged JB. I respect your opinion even when I disagree with it. Sullivan, Gleason, and Harrington, on the other hand, not so much.

He and Harrington completely embarrassed themselves that day. Cringe worthy.
