I love Wade. I love Rex. I also remember how many (on this board as well) had inane criticisms of Wade.

Sully embarrasses himself at the Super Bowl
Peter replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
FWIW, I read the resulting column this morning. The column (for the most part) was not bad. What is hilarious is that Sullen attempts to re-characterize what happened from him demanding: "Why don't you back it up?" to Sullen demurely suggesting that Mr. Newton "elaborate" on his comments . . . . I had to laugh. -

Not exactly breaking . . . . Nevertheless, Sully asked what he presumably already was planning on writing about -- as he usually does. Cam Newton was within his rights to respond the way he did and, in fact, had the better of the exchange. In the end, Sully is Sullen as usual . . . . -

I have to hand it to Cam, he had a great comeback. I was only listening to this casually on ESPN and did not realize that it was our beloved Sully who made an arse out of himself (yet again), but this time on the national stage. -
Sully column implies Rex is stealing the Pegula's money
Peter replied to JoeF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would never, ever accuse any NFL coach of being lazy. These guys work very, very hard and just about round the clock during the season. There also is hardly any off season for these guys. Sully, on the other hand, simply goes to his snark tool box a few times a week and (about 90% of the time) writes (read bitches) about whomever he wants complain/attack that day. -
Awful. Way too you. Britt and Tony had their whole lives ahead of them. I feel horrible for Britt, Tony, and their families.

Strange, I recall Sully using that same analogy about propaganda on the radio. Interesting . . . . As for "behind the scenes," just about the last place you will find out something new and interesting "behind the scenes" will be the Buffalo News (and Sully's columns would be the last of any of those at TBN). Tyler Dunne and Tim Graham can both be interesting. TG actually did break stories during the sales process. TD has written some great articles since he was hired. Interestingly, his biggest "breaking" story was that Vic's breaking ultimatum story was BS. As for Vic, I always used to like him. Since he has been back, it seems as though his editors have told him to be more like Bucky and Sully. It does not suit him. He also seems to have been played or horribly misinformed about certain things he has has written. As for Sully, Bucky, and Harrington, they seem to be the ones who have burned most of they bridges with the Sabres and Bills. Those guys are not very likely to break any "real deal" stories "behind the scenes." Yet, if you are looking for articles/columns that are snarky and written to fit within their own preconceived narratives, Sully, Bucky, and Harrington are the go to guys at the Buffalo News. -

All one has to do is watch that Sabres end of year press conference from a few years ago . . . or read Bucky's column suggesting that Kim Pegula meddles (and presumably should just bake cookies) . . . or read Sully's column essentially saying that Terry was just lucky in business. . . or many other articles published by the Buffalo News to realize that they burned their own bridges and that it should not surprise anyone that news outlets OTHER THAN the Buffalo News are the ones that typically break Bills/Sabres stories . . . . -
Sully column implies Rex is stealing the Pegula's money
Peter replied to JoeF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the uninitiated, the following sentence is a good introduction into Sully: "The Bills will almost surely cut Mario Williams, leaving a huge pass-rushing gap." First, if there was one guy leading the charge against Mario, it was Sully. Sully criticized Mario's production in the first year even though he had a broken hand. Sully also never seemed to get over the fact that Mario had his own refrigerator. Now, Sully clams that Rex (the guy Sully will be complaining about for the next several years) should have been at the Senior Bowl to scout pass rushers because Mario's departure will be "leaving a huge pass-rushing gap." Huge pass-rushing gap?!? Sully should go back and read some of his own tweets about Mario's lack of production this past year. -

I honestly think that Sully (and some of his other colleagues) were genuinely disappointed when the Bills beat the Jets. Sully probably already wrote a series of articles centered around how the Jets made the playoffs once they got rid of Rex . . . . This ultimatum thing is horsesh*t. It was that when Vic wrote about it. Based on what we know about Kim and Terry Pegula, giving an ultimatum to a coach they just hired seems about the last thing that they would do. To the extent that there is even a source, Vic should have been smart enough to question it because it makes no sense. P.S. I wonder if Rex was at the Senior Bowl if Sully would have written that Rex and DW were having a power struggle about who had last word about the draft or the 53 man roster. P.P.S. All of the senior bowl practices are taped. P.P.P.S If Rex does not go to the combine, then Sully might have a store. P.P.P.P.S. Sully writes articles as though he has a lifetime contract. -
As best as I can tell, OJ Simpson is on the Ring of Honor as a result of what he did on the football field for the Buffalo Bills -- as opposed to what happened in June 1994. My prediction: OJ's name will stay on the Ring of Honor at the Ralph. If the Bills ever move into a new stadium, I suspect that, to the extent that his name is displayed at all, it will not be on a ring of honor or as prominently.

Is it wise to grossly underpay your starting QB?
Peter replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love TT and hope he is the guy. Nevertheless, he has started just 14 games for the Bills. I think it is a bit premature for spotrac or anyone else to be talking about $19 million per year contracts. I would love to know whether he can do what he did on a consistent basis going forward. If he and his agent were willing, I have no issue with extending him and giving him a contract that protects both TT and the Bills so we do not end up in cap hell because we were premature in paying him elite QB money. It takes two to tango though. -
How long before Sexton drops Marrone as a client?
Peter replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My understanding from media reports: Marrone's contract had an opt out clause that allowed him to opt out within a certain period of time after the 2014 season and still keep his 2015 salary. This clause is similar to what Jimmy Sexton negotiated with the Dolphins for Bill Parcells. Of course, Doug Marrone is not Bill Parcells. Without the opt out clause, St. Doug would not have been able to quit and keep his 2015 salary. If a team fires a coach who has time left on a contract, the team is obligated to pay the balance. There are instances though where such obligation would be reduced by any amounts paid by another team for the same period of time. -
Like a phoenix from the ashes....Modkins offered SF OC job.
Peter replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I presume Chip will call the plays as Chan did before with Curtis. It appears that Curtis is a natural fit as OC for people named Chan, Chip . . . maybe later Chin (if Bill Cowher ever gets back into coaching). -
How long before Sexton drops Marrone as a client?
Peter replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
. . . or, Doug Marrone has a very, very high opinion of himself, convinced himself that he was going to be the Jets head coach, and double dipped on a HC salary by exercising the clause that allowed him to both opt out AND yet keep the money that the Bills were obligated to pay him in 2015. -

I wonder which one of you should get the Bucky Gleason Award for Outstanding Achievement in Misogyny. -
Per PFT http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/01/20/bills-hire-a-female-assistant-coach/ Her name is Kathryn Smith and she will serve as a special teams quality control coach (who will hopefully eliminate blocking in the back penalties). This past year, she served as an administrative assistant to Rex.

Eagles have Schwartz on their mind for DC?
Peter replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have read on this site that Jim Schwartz is the best defensive mind in the history of defenses in any sport. With this hire, I fully expect that the Eagles' defense will be the number one defense in the history of the NFL. P.S. Please excuse my sarcasm. I like Schwartz. I just don't like the way some have invoked Schwartz to push their anti-Rex narrative. -

If one owned an NFL team, why would you hire Marrone knowing that he quit on another team and took his golden parachute the way he did. This is St. Doug, we are talking about - not Bill Belichick, Bill Parcells, Nick Saban . . . . There are plenty of other candidates out there without having to hire someone who quit on his team/owner. Marrone miscalculated big time. He obviously has not given a satisfactory explanation re what happened to any of the owners/teams with whom he has interviewed.
