  1. There was for sure an injury being dealt with that is at least part of the equation. Having season tix, Its been pretty plain to see at the stadium since around the Denver game. We often saw him holding his mid section, and back, getting up slowly and being deliberately stiff in his movements. The injury seems to crop up when he takes a very physical hit from a defender. Not when he's running a route uncontested.

Add that to aging (probably another small part of the equation) and lack of #2 WR, and we get the results we did.

The crap about him falling off a cliff or being disgruntled or not trying is absurd.

He wants it as much as anyone on the team and is an amazing coach on the field and sideline with his teammates. Always engaged. Always.

Got him on ignore .. but people keep quoting his posts!

I've added like 10 to my ignore in the past few days. A good cleansing every so often always freshens up the vibe of the board 🙃

I have yet to ignore the one in question though, its too entertaining for some reason... I'm sure I'll tire of it :)

I was admittedly low on AJ. I don't think there's really a comparison between Legette and DK though. DK was an absolute god in terms of beating press coverage in college; the whole projection with him was the idea that you couldn't jam him at the line but also couldn't keep up with him if you gave him a free release. Legette struggles with press coverage and just isn't as explosive as DK. He's more Kenny Britt than DK IMO. Could still be good but I just don't think DK is the right comparison.

Yep, I agree which is why my comp is AJ Brown. DK was drafted later than he should have though because of doubts about his route running ability, was my only point about DK.

    "Weaknesses

Should rely on footwork and body positioning over arm-extension to clear the top of his route

Rushes through pattern ingredients rather than developing their flavors as a route chef

Gears it down a little when turning to locate the deep ball

Fails to sell route fakes to manipulate his opponent

Breaks and stems aren't as sharp as they could be

Had separate season-ending injuries in 2016 (foot) and 2018 (neck)

Suffered focus drops when working back to the ball

Drop rate too high over last two seasons

Needs better positioning of his big frame to block out defenders on comebacks"

So in the end, if I'm the Buffalo Bills and I'm looking for a WR2 legit, I take a small risk here for a big reward.

On the contrary, if I am looking for a true out-the-gate #1 WR, I'd agree more with folks concerns here on Xavier.

Now, if he doesn't show up all week here, then clearly he drops a rd. or 2.

That was some stunt, not the context but the time he dropped it really made me lose respect for him. I'm sure there was some truths in there, it's just the fact he claims to be a Bills fan and drops a hit piece at their lowest point in 2.5 years was scumbag **** imo

Then again,  it was a blessing in disguise as the team only got tighter and stood by McD, ripping off W after W. But he wanted it to sink the ship and I'll never respect that man again in my life

With amazing sources like 'Lil Dirty, Doug Whaley and Quinton Spain, how could he have gone wrong? I mean its not like they were all butt hurt or anything, right?

Even in his highlights, you don't see separation.  What you see is a limited route tree and contested catches.

    No thank you.

I see AJ Brown potential... You could turn out right though.

Your reasoning is why WR's like DK and AJ lasted til the 2nd round. In a re-draft, both would be rd 1 picks.

With that said, I love other guys too like Franklin, Tez Walker, and Mitchell

Looking more like pass on Xavier Legette.

slow down and lets see how the week unfolds.... They are going off of a couple out routes (one caught, one not) and some 1v1 long ball drills where the ball placement was potentially not ideal. If it stays this way then you pass on him rd 1, but maybe he's still there rd 2 or 3.

Seems like Roman Wilson, Ladd McConkey, and Jamari Thrash were the 3 WRs to stand out today. Xavier Legette reportedly struggled; he failed to make any catches in the 1 on 1 drills. He tried to go deep on all 4 of the routes that we saw; 1 drop, 1 where he just got outmuscled for the ball, and 2 overthrows. Thrash similarly tried to go deep every opportunity he had and just looked like the better vertical separator.

Will be interested to see how Xavier does throughout the week. If he struggles all week, just go ahead and make him a rd 2 or rd 3 prospect instead. Fortunately there are plenty of guys to like in the top 10 Wr's for our pick at 28.

Dont get me wrong, I am not ready to say he is better than some of the more proven studs in the league, but I do think he deserves more respect than he gets.

For me, its the eyeball test.  I watch every Niner game as my wife is a die hard Niner fan.  I feel like Purdy's bigger crticics doubt him more on assumptions rather than watching his full games.  I feel like they assume Shannahan is creating easy short throws and that the guys catching the ball do all the work.  But its just not accurate when you watch the games, Purdy is really throwing some dimes out there, pushes the ball downfield (insane 9.6 ypa on the season), has incredible poise, plays tough as nails, plays with great instincts and feel for the game, etc.

But thats the fun of a debate like this...its early, so easy to see both sides.  I am not ready to crown him the next great QB either, but I also do feel like he should get more credit than he has gotten from people just assuming its all Shannahan.

I can see the skills for sure. I'd say I watched probably 4 full games for the Niners this season. I was really just trying to give a take on what I thought Firechans main point was...

The truth is often in the middle regarding extreme takes in one direction or another.

I think they should bring back Talkin' Proud and show the video that has the lady with the crazy chicken walk.

I remember when local Buffalo supermarket 'Bells' was running with the Talkin' Proud theme and had even sold a local version of Buffalo Bills football cards. I still have some of them :)

What a difference maker this draft class was for the Lions:

Round 1, Pick 12 — RB Jahmyr Gibbs

Round 1, Pick 18 — LB Jack Campbell

Round 2, Pick 34 overall — TE Sam LaPorta

Round 2, Pick 45 overall — DB Brian Branch

The rest of their draft was not much but these 4 guys were amazing, particularly Gibbs and LaPorta. I think LaPorta could become another Kelce type dominant TE for years.

It sure would be amazing if we could find 4 guys who could step right in at Saftey, WR, LB and DT draft this year.

I don't think Campbell was "amazing" but certainly agree on the rest!

  11. I see that Legette played QB in HS as well. I like him even more than I did before. I think the one year of production risk is worth taking with this guy. He's the fastest guy on the field in his clips, and his size and physicality is something we need at the position.

I get all that, but what I don't get is what QB's did Shannahan actually make look good?  Schaub was a product of Kubiak and there before Kyle and played at the same level once Kyle was gone.  Then he was fired as an OC in Washington and lasted one season in Cleveland.  Then he joined Matt Ryan for 2 seasons in the middle of Ryans career who was arguably top 5 QB when Kyle arrived.  Ryan won an MVP award, but he also replicated almost exactly his MVP season 2 years after Kyle left.  In SF, what QB played above their level?  Beathard stunk, Mullens stunk, Jimmy G was the same QB he was when he came in week 11 via trade as he was the day he left for Oakland, and Lance was a failure.

So I guess that is where I differ than others.  I see the "Kyle makes QBs better" statement as a bit of an over exaggeration.  Only success he had with QB's are with 2 QB's who had the same success without him.

Plus, I don't get how people call it Kyles system, the whole team is really built around John Lynch's style of defense and pounding the ball.  Kyle wants to throw the ball, and so badly that he kept doing so much in the SB against the Pats that they threw there way our of a SB win with those incomplete passes saving so much clock for NE to have enough time to comeback.  And if you ask a Niner fan, they feel Kyle blew it trying to force the passing game against KC when SF lost to them in the SB.

Purdy is really his first real success story, and it is a significant one.  So I just think Purdy isn't getting enough credit for the things he has done so well because there is a mystique around Shannahan that I don't think is really that accurate.  I think he is a good HC, and he is doing great with what Lynch has given him.  But I just don't think this narrative that Purdy is only succeeding because of "Shannahans system" is fair to Purdy nor that accurate.

I think that's all fair and essentially what I am saying. Purdy is better than Jimmy G yes, but even so, the Shannahan scheme makes every QB that plays in it look statistically better than they actually are (as long as they are smart processors and good on a timing based offense)... some more than others in this case. Purdy is pretty darn good but he doesn't hold a candle to the top 6 to 10 freaks in this league at the position.

Jimmy G and Brock are not even in the same league.  CJ Beathard and Nick Mullens never looked good, I don't get this notion.  And I don't buy they wouldn't be in the league without Shannahan when guys like Nathan Peterman hung around the league.  The CJ Beathards and Nick Mullens of the world hang around the league all the time.

And how can you say "he is top 15 guy" but playing at an MVP level because of Shannahan?  There is no Pre-Shannahan period to establish what he is or isn't outside of Shannahan.  All we have seen is him play at an MVP level in his first full season something no other QB in the past 7 years in SF has done or come close to doing.

And as I showed before, Kyle and his QB expertise are grossly exaggerated.  He passed on Mahomes, Watson, and Lamar when they badly needed a QB and instead rolled with guys like CJ Bethard and Nick Mullens.  He passed up signing Tom Brady, Geno Smith (3 different seasons), and didn't pull the trigger on Stafford all to stick with Jimmy G.  They invested 3 first rounders into Trey Lance just to have him unseated by Mr. Irrelevant because he couldn't develop him.  Until Purdy came along, his entire tenure in SF since 2017 had been a total failure at QB.

His track record with QB's and QB decisions in SF has not been good, and the lack of a QB is why they don't have 2 to 3 SB titles since he got there.

He has certainly not shown to be good at selecting QB's, nor grooming or developing them. BUT, and this is what I believe Firechans is saying, Shannahan's offensive scheme makes average, or limited QB's look better than they actually are. He needs a QB who's fairly cerebral and can operate under strict timing constraints. If they have those traits, they can thrive in a Shannahan scheme. In no world is Brock close to the elite QB's in the NFL. And that's ok, because heck, they're still in the super bowl!

I like this one, but I think I'd try to find a way to squeeze Goff in there somehow.

    He's been really, really good

Thanks. I really wanted to put him in over Dak, but Dak really does string together some very good games, and can do a little more (not much mind you) off script than Goff. I could be convinced otherwise probably.

Yea I don't think he is going to run in the 4.2s but he is legitimately fast. He is more a build up speed guy so I don't think the 40 necessarily will showcase how fast he is. But he is going to run plenty fast enough to be legit size / speed prospect.

    I'm super high on him.

You can see his speed on the field pretty clearly. He's legit fast. Pulls away from db's at nearly every opportunity to.
