How long does it take an NFL head coach to reach his 1st Super Bowl?
K-9 replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Outstanding. Kind of touches upon the idea of making statistics say anything you want them to say. But there is honest research and then there is the type of research posited by the resident genius who needs to support his agenda. -
This is an easy concept that the resident “genius” can’t seem to grasp.

Is Allen a failure?
-
Equivocate much?
-
I’m growing bored with what is essentially a semantic argument with an egomaniac who feels only he can define things for everyone else. Is failure the opposite of success or not? Are the Bills a successful team or not?
-
I’m not categorizing success as a fan. I’m categorizing it as someone who has been part of numerous collaborative efforts in pursuit of an ultimate goal and realizing how many successful outcomes need to be achieved in order to get there.
-
Knowing my definition is probably different than the people playing and coaching in the league, I’ll just say that during the course of a collaborative endeavor, there are a series of successes to be achieved on the way to an ultimate goal; required foundational successes. In short, there is success, higher success, and ultimate success. While 31 teams don’t achieve that ultimate success, they have achieved success nonetheless. It is an insult to the work and sacrifice put in by the players, coaches, and the rest of those organizations to suggest otherwise.

That’s why winning the division is always job one. You do that, you’re in the dance and a SB contender. Simple as that. FFS.
-
Didn’t mean to imply people were wanting him fired now, although there are probably some that do; just wondering why people are upset if he can be fired at anytime, anyway. Bottom line is there is absolutely no reason for people to be overreacting to a routine NFL transaction and the extension doesn’t preclude Pegula from firing him before the term is up.
-
Perhaps, but it’s certainly saying no other team was successful. Which is a ridiculous assertion.
-
That depends on whether or not you’ve had your IQ tested.
-
Every team’s goal is to win the SB and every team except KC fell short of the goal they were “aiming for.” So according to your myopic take, no other teams were successful. No straw man at all. Just carrying your logic to its natural conclusion.
-
Right. Every team sucks except KC and we should just commiserate with the the Texans, Bears, and Cardinals. Got it. A more myopic take on success doesn’t exist.

This is true. The extension doesn’t preclude Pegula from firing McD at any time. The extension is a show of faith that serves to show Pegula has his back no matter what the media might report otherwise. But if Pegula can up and fire him at any time anyway, then why all the consternation from so many posters? Because he hasn’t fired him already? I’m sorry, but you just don’t fire coaches coming off 13-3 seasons with career .640 winning percentages.
-
Dead horse? We have had one exchange on the idea that a new staff would immediately improve and win a SB. But ok.
-
I have every idea that a new staff would experience regression. Unless, of course, you can cite an historical reference to a new coaching staff immediately improving upon a 13-3 record from the previous season and winning a SB. I suspect you’d be hard pressed to do so as coaches coming off a 13-3 record the previous season and .650 winning percentage over the last five are rarely, if ever, fired in the first place. That said, Pegula can still choose to fire McD anytime over the next five years, regardless.
-
Another idea put forth in this thread that I don’t understand is that “there was no reason to do so.” News flash: Terry Pegula doesn’t need a reason, although I’m sure he has them.
-
Zerovoltz and zero influence on anything the Bills will so.
-
Yeah, great QBs are part and parcel to great coaching success. The vast majority of league history bears that out and it will never change. So fire McDermott, hire a new coach and staff and, VOILA! Instant SB champs immediately? I fully understand questioning McD as there is legitimate reason to do so, but I also realize ANY new staff that comes in will experience a regression. And the same fans that wanted McD gone will go even more ape sh*t than they do now.
-
Do you think the Pegulas and the rest of the organization don’t have that expectation as well? Should they just fire a coach with the third best record over the last five years and expect the new coach to immediately win it all? An initial regression is more likely. You and others think McBeane can’t get us there and that’s understandable, but Pegula choosing to reward them for establishing a winning tradition after years of misery is also every bit as understandable.

Submarine meant to view Titanic wreck loses contact at bottom of sea

The Navy essentially said this in every article. They were 100% correct in waiting for confirmation. -
This is what having the 3rd best record over the last five seasons deserves. I don’t understand how anyone can’t understand that.

Per the bold, this is so true. There have been so many catastrophic events where we are spellbound by the potential tragedy while simultaneously rooting for another triumph of human ingenuity to rescue the victims. Whether it’s Chilean minors stuck below ground or a Thai boys soccer team trapped in a flooded cave or four young children surviving 40 days in the Amazonian jungle after a plane crash, the world collectively yearns for successful outcomes. There is something special about that shared humanity and the pride we can all share in those successes. But it makes the losses that much more tragic, too. -

The Navy heard the implosion when it occurred. Sad. Wall Street Journal article: https://apple.news/AA1VfoiWiQQ-NXwOmmxMQ9w
