  1. Love his elite size/athleticism combination, but he’s very raw in terms of recognition. Poor angles and improper coverage drops will be an issue until he’s more seasoned. Yes, his athleticism will enable him to recover faster but that can be a double edged sword as teams can exploit that to get him out of position. We need to be patient during the growing pains but sky is the limit for him.
  2. I am now. If you’re a Bills fan, you have no choice.
  3. Good point. They took over a team on its way to a 9-7 record and in contention until the last few weeks. That’s not a situation that screams panic and lets blow the whole thing up. Being in that .500 area the next two years is the purgatory of mediocrity that deludes even the most experienced owners into thinking they’re only a player or two away. It’s understandable why they were patient initially.
  4. I'm skeptical about them being off the board vs. lower ranked than others. If Darnold and Allen were both gone after pick 3, I have a hard time believing we wouldn't have made a deal to secure one of Mayfield or Rosen like we did Allen. Beane was coming out of this draft with a legitimate QB prospect come hell or high water.
  5. Wearing sweatpants and sneakers to your team visits. Oh, and recognition.
  6. Polian and the league's search committee, which is often overlooked. But they've had several success stories over the years; Tomlin being chief among them.
  7. Name one personality trait that Allen has in common with Leaf. Leaf was an arrogant, cocky, "me-first", immature jerk and when things became tougher for him, when he actually had to work at applying his craft, he checked out. When has Allen ever displayed any of that?
  8. Routing for average is the shortest root to mediocre.
  9. Hard to believe the negativity? Around here? This place could make Norman Vincent Peale slit his wrists.
  10. She's also had nearly four years of learning the ropes, been to numerous league meetings, and has taken on a role with the league's business committee. She may be a bit green, but she ain't stupid.
  11. It's a totally non-impact move vis a vis the football and hockey operations side of things. It's not like they woke up this morning and said, "Damn, Russ is out. WTF are we supposed to do now! I know, call Dave Culley!"
  12. Daboll, McDermott, and Culley will still be working with Allen during the season in exactly that capacity, you know, GAMEPLANING; perhaps the most important aspect of a QB's development where he learns why defenses are trying to do what they do; learning the game on the conceptual level on both sides of the ball. You make it sound like Culley will just sit there and teach him to say, "hut one, hut two, hike." Ooh, the dreaded ZERO resume bomb! Like his experience in the game itself somehow disqualifies him from knowing every facet inside and out. Have fun with your misery search. Like I said, there is no shortage of Mr. Yucks around here to commiserate with. Enjoy.
  13. Big Ben was light years ahead of Allen in terms of development so I wouldn't try to make a case that Allen is a better prospect coming out. And Miami of Ohio was a far superior program to Wyoming to boot. Still is. I would also argue that Allen very much dominated his competition at times. Not as often as we'd like to see, but he certainly did at times.
  14. Daboll, McDermott, and McGeoghan to name a few in addition to Culley. I imagine he will continue his work with Jordan Palmer as well moving forward. Any chance we can wait and see how it goes before throwing a coach under the bus? Before convincing yourself Allen is doomed to failure with Culley before he straps a helmet on for the first time? Ah, who am I kidding? You won't be able to help yourself when it comes to condemning before the fact. You're in good company around here, though.
  15. You are aware there are 10 other guys on his offense and 11 other guys on his defense, right? Teammates that were far worse at their respective positions at Wyoming than Allen was at his. He's got a ways to go just because he was such a late bloomer comparatively, but you make it sound like he was the sole purpose Wyoming struggled.
  16. If Culley were going to be the sole influence on his development, perhaps I'd worry. But Culley is only part of a cadre of coaches that will be tasked with his development. And Culley himself isn't beyond being held accountable if it's felt he's not doing the job properly by his bosses. The fact he hasn't worked with QBs since the 80s is immaterial. He has a wealth of coaching experience, regardless. That's the last thing I'd worry about. Generally, every coach with his level of experience at various levels can coach other positions. Feel free to rant on Castillo all you want. He's not germane to the discussion, anyway.
  17. He's the QB coach who is going to single handedly prevent Josh Allen from improving and reaching his potential.
  18. Seamless transition. None of the folks running the respective football and hockey operations are impacted.
  19. David Culley. Are you under the misguided notion that David Culley is the only coach who will be working with him? That's just not the reality of the situation. This "Cully as villain" narrative is absurd.
  20. Don't worry. I understand David Culley will be taking her under his wing as well.
  21. David Culley will not be soley responsible for his development as a QB.
  22. I don't recall the BN paper ads, but 1998 was a key moment in history. Long story short, Brandon was hired in late '97 to do one thing: secure the release of the final installment from NYS for stadium renovations; something like $61m plus iirc. That was a daunting task as one of the stipulations was the sale of all luxury suites. Not only did Brandon accomplish that less than one year into his tenure, but he secured record amounts of corporate sponsorship as well; to the tune of tens of millions of dollars. I remember walking into the stadium in 1998 and being amazed at all the new signage in and around the facility. It was night and day. And I know Mr. Wilson appreciated all that new found non-shared revenue as well so it's no surprise Russ Brandon became one of his stars. And Brandon was able to sustain that throughout, too. Which is one of the reasons he has such a great reputation in the sports marketing world. He could have written his own ticket to a job with the league and I have to wonder how much this forced resignation will tarnish his rep.
  23. I think what you describe in the Story paragraph is interesting and I'd bet that NFL personnel execs feel much the same way. His floor may be the lowest at present, but given his lack of exposure to top notch coaching and his prodigious physical and athletic gifts, his ceiling may be the highest of the bunch. For instance, as much as I love Rosen as a prospect, I'm not sure he can improve very much from where he is now. I think Allen and Darnold stand to gain the most in terms of room to grow.
  24. Good point. Those two second rounders don't add up to the #22 pick we retained. Everybody and their mother had us giving up both #1s and this board was peppered with people saying if Beane could keep #22 it would be a genius move.
