  1. The point is, does anyone really think McBeane can be influenced by public opinion on the matter? That they don't already know all there is to know about the need for a QB? If McBeane ends up getting their targeted QB, will media and fans congratulate themselves for convincing McBeane to do what was necessary? As though it couldn't have been done without their influence? I'm looking forward to the inevitable meltdowns by the media and fans if they decide McBeane gave up too much in the process, though.
  2. McBeane couldn't care less what the media and fans have to say on the matter.
  3. At the time or in retrospect?
  4. "Hamburg overhead door...over delivering all over western New York." Letchworth, Rt. 36 corridor. Connect the dots.
  5. Enjoyed hearing him talk about their mock process and how he doesn't make any of picks for the Bills or the other teams but instead makes everyone defend their selection. I suspect their mocks closely mirror the mocks in all the other war rooms around the league. I'm also convinced that Beane is totally unaffected by media and fan desires. I get the impression he's going to trust his board, too. So, if the right deal for moving up doesn't materialize, I think he's content with letting the draft come to him. And while I hope he can move up and get a QB he likes, I'm confident he's going to find good players, regardless.
  6. Not finishing worse than 4-12 last season cost us the #3 overall pick. End of story.
  7. Overhyped? Yes. Overvalued? Never. You cannot overvalue the QB position.
  8. I don’t want to belabor the point, but that is all pure speculation and not rooted in anything Schwartz indicated during his interview. It’s nice to think he might have made a different decision but, again, there is nothing to go by based on what he said.
  9. Nothing is one size fits all. The 1,000 attempts metric goes back decades in personnel circles as a general rule of thumb. Nothing is etched in stone though. Some teams and prospects see and need less, some see and need more before deciding.
  10. Shoe size is a critical if often ignored factor for QBs. A bigger foot is much more effective for kicking the asses of underperforming linemen and receivers.
  11. Other than flat out saying he wouldn't, yeah, he would have stayed. Schwartz simply wasn't interested in staying unless he was promoted to HC. That simple. Besides, do you not see the potential toxicity of working for Rex Ryan and retaining a scheme that was foreign to the HC? With the entourage of Rex's sycophants in tow? Schwartz would have been miserable. He did the right thing by taking the time off, collecting his $2m and surveying the landscape before jumping back in.
  12. As long as it takes to know one way or the other. I like the old standard of 1,000 attempts.
  13. You may well be right. I'd still be shocked though. They are rivals in every sense of the word, the stadium cooperation not withstanding.
  14. When they interviewed Schwartz for the HC job he was asked if he would stay on as DC if he didn't get the job. He flat out told them no. That was more than a week before Rex was interviewed. Hiring Rex probably made it even easier for Schwartz to walk away but he couldn't do that until he was fired because he would have forfeited his $2m salary. Schwartz and Rex just isn't a good match. Rex is too much the blowhard.
  15. Decent player who wasn't yet back to 100% when McBeane parted ways with him. Just not a McD preference at the position. He wants guys that can move and cover. Never one of Ragland's strengths. He showed some glimpses last year and I wish the kid well.
  16. The NY Post Backpage is the least of it. There has always been a palpable friction between the two franchises since the Jets came into the AFL as the Titans in 1960. Rancor over players drafted by both leagues. Spite when Namath signed a record deal. It's an ingrained cultural disdain. But you're right, if the right deal could be made, perhaps bygones are bygones. I would just be shocked if that happened. Cold day in hell indeed.
  17. I've been trying to argue this point in another thread, which is why I'd much rather retain 22 this year and trade next year's 1 if it comes to that. And there aren't going to be all these QBs to push better players down next year, either. I keep hearing "but we are gonna suck and we will be picking in the top 10, yada yada yada." That makes little sense to me from the Bills perspective. Can you imagine the mindset that ingrains going into this season?
  18. That is a good line. Now we gotta get him to yell, "Omaha!", to really sell it.
  19. Completely understandable. After all, getting to the opponents QB is the second most important item next to getting your own franchise QB. It's a huge advantage when you have a pass rusher that can get to the QB by himself, too, without having to devote other resources and scheming to do so. That said, even if there is a guy like that in this draft, we need to get our QB. Now is the time.
  20. And he showed so many glimpses of greatness that the W/L record and poor stats were readily overlooked. That's going to be the key if we draft a guy and start him right away. If not, he's going to get roasted by the hot pocket fan base. Which is completely unfair and stupid, really.
  21. Can't see the Giants agreeing to deal with the Jets. Ever. I'd be shocked.
  22. So, Ryan O'Reilly is nominated for the Lady Byng? Shouldn't loving the game all the time be a qualifier? As good a two-way player as he is, as good a special teams player as he is, I would have no problem if JBots shipped his whiny, loser ass out of town.
  23. Moving from 12 to 9 will not cost 22. And given our extra picks in the second and third rounds, we wouldn't necessarily have to spend 22 to get to 7, either.
