  1. Holy crap! I just had a chance to rewatch that play and wow! That’s as major league as it gets. Just great desire and then the situational awareness to make the play. I love offense and skill and talent and great playmaking as much as the next guy, but I RESPECT defensive effort in sports more than anything. Defense is ALL heart and desire and guts and it doesn’t get the accolades that a great offensive skill play gets, but it’s just so integral to success. Casey was gassed after that sprint and exhaustion often brings out the worst in players immediately afterward, but he still had the poise and awareness to control the puck and wait for a better play to develop. I say that’s the best play he’s made since he’s been here.
  2. That was a great read. Jerry getting roasted never gets old.
  3. You just know he’s got all his hit pieces written and sitting in a drawer waiting to be unleashed.
  4. All the underlying analytics tell us it’s real.
  5. I agree. Vesey is a much better positional player than I realized. Defensively responsible with good hockey sense from what I’ve seen so far. It’s only a matter of time before they start finding the back of the net. I’m hoping it’s Thursday against his old team.
  6. Great game by two teams duking it out all night. Fun to watch. Nerve wracking, but fun none the less. The Sharks are a good team and we showed we can compete with them the last two games. This 8-1-1 streak is a helluva lot better than the 10 game winning streak last year. Nothing. Fluky. About. It.
  7. I admire your fortitude for being able to stomach this place during a game. It’s full tilt bozo time around here on game days.
  8. Yep. Two decent games in a row by Josh. Building the foundation.
  9. I get your larger point, but given that the Patriots*** have been proving for nearly two decades that they are, indeed, really that good, it’s a far sillier question when asked of them. JW would lose some credibility as a serious journalist by asking it.
  10. Yes, average age, which is what everybody tends to point to. IIRC, we are the 7th oldest team by average age. My mention of the QB position was meant to underscore your initial mention as it’s the most critical position and it’s manned by a very inexperienced player currently. You can have the oldest, most experienced players at every other position, but a second year QB without a lot of experience at the position and even less formal training as a QB entering the league, really weighs heavily, imo.
  11. You are thinking chronologically, which isn’t the only way to evaluate it. How long has this team and administration been together? That’s what makes it a young team. Especially with a second year QB still learning how to play the position.
  12. Now that is a grade A endorsement of Carson Wentz if I ever saw one.
  13. While I think Wawrow has a point, we are also 5-1 without having played a complete game so far. This is a young team coming off a 6-10 season last year that is still maturing. They have nothing to apologize for in beating anyone on their schedule to this point. And regarding needing a comeback to beat Miami, that’s disrespectful to Miami more than it is to us. Flores and some on his staff are intimately familiar with our team having been part of game planning against us while in NE***. Anyone who thought we could just show up and beat Miami, wasn’t dealing in reality.
  14. Cozens actually has 8 goals, 6 assists in 10 games.
  15. Cozens is kicking ass for Lethbridge in the WHL and Johnson is four games into his freshman year at Minnesota.
  16. I remember those “Free parking $1” signs on Jefferson Ave.
  17. That was an awesome walk down memory lane. Outstanding post!
  18. Yep. You can’t play the game from behind the sticks. That simple. FGs weren’t the worst outcome in those situations, either.
  19. And that’s the key point at this juncture. There’s a ton of football left to be played and a lot of weird crap can happen at the hands of the fickle football gods. I’m simply pointing out that, through 7 games, their defensive stats are historic relative to past great defenses, regardless. I’m not big on rationalizing the “why” of it all. It doesn’t matter if it’s impressive or not, the numbers are what they are.
  20. Here’s a novel idea: if a team objects to the Pats*** running up the score against them, how about stopping them from doing so. You know, like play defense. The Jest had plenty of opportunities to punch them in the mouth and simply failed to do so.
  21. You can couch your reasons any way you like for not giving the Pats*** defense any credit, but it doesn’t make any difference. Statistically, through their first 7 games this season, they are performing at a historic level. That’s a simple reality. No matter how many arguments you offer for the “why” of it all.
  22. “Best ever“ arguments are futile. Everything is relative. What can’t be argued is that this Pateiots*** defense is performing at a historical level. Argue all you want about “best ever this” or “ best ever that”, but it misses the point that this Pats*** defense is in the discussion when it comes to the best defenses in history. They have a seat at the table. To this point of the season, anyway.. They have 9 games left and while I don’t think there’s any chance they don’t keep up their level of play, lots of weird crap can happen.
  23. Two words: mental acuity. Four more words: the anti Phil Housley.
  24. Yep. Totally disrespected the Bills with that comment.
