Would have been nice to have leadership capable of articulating what public health is all about, what our role is in maintaining it, and then demanding the sacrifice necessary to see it through. Americans have done this in the past. And we can do it again. But it starts at the top with a unifying vision.

What a bunch of crap. You can gather numerous statistics from various agencies about SARS- CoV-2 and Covid-19 DIRECTLY, without ever having to rely on any “controlled” news agency.

Information is readily available for those who avail themselves to it. But willful ignorance is impossible to converse with.

I’m pretty sure we’d still disagree. There is a difference between saying the people in our government who sanctioned slavery and genocide were white vs. saying it was the white people who sanctioned slavery and genocide. White men, specifically, own those government actions in our nation’s history, there is no denying that, and that’s why it’s a “whites only” thing when it comes to those aspects of our legacy as a nation. But again, that’s not saying all white people. So rest easy.

It’s not just about the slavery issue. As a nation, we have to reconcile government sanctioned genocide, Jim Crow and the remnants of its systemic racism, voter suppression, etc. Slavery is just one issue. How and who did Ed Oliver pay in the DA’s office to have those tests come back negative. Are you under the delusion that I’m speaking for you? Your horse crap bucket is deep. You need to get over your defensiveness. And to clue you in, it isn’t just white people that have to reconcile our nations’s past. It’s all of us. As a nation. That is, if we are REALLY serious about seeing the promise of America lived up to.

Pure horse crap. Way to miss the point. It’s interesting that people who think white people hold certain views must be experiencing “white guilt.” LMFAO! There is no such thing. But there is a such thing as white defensiveness. And you need to get over that.

I agree with your larger point, but in terms of our country’s legacy, it’s a “whites only” thing. As a white man, I just can’t get on board with any kind of equivalency in that regard.

That’s why I think we are turning the corner a bit. We are starting to realize it’s not good enough to simply be “not racist.” We all need to be ANTI racist; no quarter given.

There was a nice article in the BN about Lewis’s visit to his relatives in Buffalo when he was a kid. He held a special place in his heart for Buffalo ever since. I was struck by his feeling that Buffalo was a bastion of integration compared to where he grew up under Jim Crow. And his description of his father’s palpable relief when they crossed into Ohio on their way here made me realize where much of his rare courage and grace came from. RIP, John Lewis. Your legacy lives on.

Critics of FDR’s New Deal policies would argue against your point. Indeed, there are those that feel the Democratic Party is more returning to its roots rather than making any radical shift to the left. Universal health care and free public education have been planks in the party platform going back 80 years. It’s an interesting study.

All true. Regardless, we do know unequivocally that this virus can and will overrun health care systems when given the chance. And yet we’ve insisted on giving it chance after chance.
