\ Marv Levy protects New Orleans from the water? Whao, to think that Cat couldn't win one superbowl....
-
Its sad, Levy maintenance is not a prority until you are in 18 feet of water sitting on your roof. Bridge maintenace is no biggie until its collapses in a river in Minnesota. I will say for New Orleans, you have to wonder why somebody would think building a city below sea level inbetween two large bodies of water is a good idea. I get the historical reasons for it, its just crazy. I didn't see the Corps were not blamed afterall... was the State at fault?
-
Yes... I think there was a narrative that Bush could care less about a US underwater, but I believe that is false. People warned the Levy would fail, nobody anticipated a barge breaking a 50 foot hole in it. It was the perfect storm, the effort on ground was overwhelmed and unprepared for that kind of catastrophe....

I think most of New Orleans was still under water at this point, and parts of the city are still not and will never recover.... I don't believe the situations are apples to apples.... Authorities were pulling dead people out of attics for months after.... It was horrific I tend to cut leaders a little slack in these "it will never happen, then it happens badly" situations... People are going to be pissed no matter what, it's the nature of natural disasters. Plus, people are over the storm.... They are all noe talking about this "cliff" thing in which they can probably cant tell you what its about...

I think we need to keep the cuts that are supposed to happen anyway, regardless of some convoluted deal that is made. Extend the tax cuts for the Middle Class, lt them expire on the Wealthly, and begin taxing anyone who pays no net taxes.. it doesn't have to be drastic, but I think the time has come where eberybody needs to pay something, even if it a few shiny nickels. We will never refomr spending or our growing government until everybody pays something.... My investments stay where they are, I have 25 years until I need them, and alot of my money is in bricks and mortar anyway.

Raise rates, lower rates, close loopholes, open loopholes, reform the tax code.... blah, blah, blah. I want to see some talk about a Flat Tax. I don't know what the rate would be, maybe 10-15%. Maybe you set it up where the poor/ working poor cap at 3-5 %. It occurs to me that the issue is not the rate paid or loopholes, its taking the manipulative power away from the politicians that is the Federal Tax Code. Collect taxes enough to cover the 18% the Government needs to run on historically, maybe collect more short term to pay debt down that we have put on the credit card, then try to get Governemnt down to 10-15% of GDP. Imagine if 5-8% more money was left in our 16T economy.....

There is a growing segment of the gay community that doesn't see HIV infection as anything other than a managable chronic disease... Private industry makes a pretty penny on retro-virals, why is the Government still funding anything with regards to HIV Infection? If you don't want AIDS, which I assume everybody on this board doesn't wear a condom or not shoot drugs... its pretty easy. Heck, if you want to make an "Investment" as were are calling it these days, put money into Alzheimers research- talk about something that is going to bankrupt the Nation on the healthcare and LTC front... yikes

Denver or Fort Collins, Colorado... Sunny all the time, easy winters, realitively well run state... Great sports town, skiing, hiking, and I think we have one of the healthiest populous in the Nation.... Otherwise, Northwest Wyoming or Parts of Montana.... Wyoming is a great place in certain areas much like Denver, low taxes, no income tax.... Places I would not live.... NYS, California (unless I was a wicked rich trust funder), mostly anything east of Colorado....

Time to move on, Romney is in the electoral, and most likely the GOP past...

The '$5 doctor' practices medicine from bygone era
B-Large replied to tomato can's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You didn't see me say that, did you? I put it in terms of what that hourly wage would come out to be.. I understand she isn't paid 400K, I am just remarking that billing $635 for 45 minutes is absurb. I spent an hour with an Endocrinologist, they billed $450. Yeah, but in this convoluted mess of a healthcare system we have, its hard to get a grip on real costs.... -

I just got a bill for $635.00 for a 45 minute pre-op visit with a Nurse Practicioner... Vitals and H&P..... When that does get billed to the insurance carrier, something few facilities can ever do right the first time, I assume Cigna will pay about $200 per contract... $200 an hour, roughly.... That's a salary of $400k a year for an FTE... Not to bad.... The point? Maybe none... But providers are doing just fine in healthcare, just fine.... -
Most Amercans don't understand what happened, and most don't care, even though they recognize Amenricans died.... Its why it was irrelevant in the campaign...

Unless you have hormone issues, but in general it is calories in versus calories out...Americans just tend to excel in calories in..

Let me be the first to say it

It's a complex issue to be sure. The US still stumbles on housing, and the international fiscal crises in countries that face insolvency... As I have said in the fast, there is no easy money asset bubble on the horizon, and since that is what has been core to our economy since the late 90's, I don't see widespread growth to be excited about. The only boom I could see is in energy, but does that energize individual consumer and pad they're pocket books so the spend slot, or does that just make energy companies benefit..... I don't think there will be a recession, but I still see a slow, steady economy over the 4-5 years... I have maintained tis slow growth rate is "paying penance" for both private and public sector folly for over a decade +.... -
One, twice a week, tops....
