  1. Right... The same reason why students can't discharge student loans in bankruptcy.... Take out a loan, pay it back...
  2. No model is prefect, but until proven otherwise in results, Silvers predictions are pretty solid....
  3. It looks like its still ok in your book if people evade taxes and tax laws... I admire your honesty.... Two years of returns... We still wonder what was in those previous returns... But it's ok, because he's your guy... I get it, he gets a pass....
  4. You got me, but it was Bourbon.... I think Cinga is drunk... But it was not my Bourbon, swear...
  5. Why should anybody hold themselves above the law? I pay my taxes honestly... I don't stash money in potentially illegal schemes... Why should we give anybody a pass on that, especially an elected official?
  6. When did I say I was making Rum??? Also, if you make beer in your home or small batch wine, you are breaking the law?... As long as you don't bottle and sell, you aren't breaking anything... If I had income from my massive Rum making operation, I would certainly claim the income... Honesty, it's a good thing... It really is..... When did I advocate taking anything from anybody?? Pay your taxes, be an american, if you don't like the tax laws, run and change them... But don't play games with money, and pretend to be a Patriot... I don't need to hear it....
  7. Mr. Obama is not a sure thing, by any means. It is a close race. His chances of holding onto his Electoral College lead and converting it into another term are equivalent to the chances of an N.F.L. team winning when it leads by a field goal with three minutes left to play in the fourth quarter. There are plenty of things that could go wrong, and sometimes they will. But it turns out that an N.F.L. team that leads by a field goal with three minutes left to go winds up winning the game 79 percent of the time. Those were Mr. Obama’s chances in the FiveThirtyEight forecast as of Wednesday: 79 percent. Not coincidentally, these are also about Mr. Obama’s chances of winning Ohio, according to the forecast http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/11/01/oct-31-obamas-electoral-college-firewall-holding-in-polls/#more-36981 I thought this was an interesting comparison to the NFL- I wonder what the liklihood of a Bills win is up by 3, with 3 minutes to go.... a loss by 20? LOL
  8. Its doesn't go into effect until 2014- but you implied he did nothing, just stating the legislation that was passed.
  9. It looks like Congress drafted, and the President signed into law FATCA in 2010. http://www.irs.gov/B...ance-Act-(FATCA) I don't know to what extent this solved all the problems, but from what I can decpiher is addressed at least some of the issues.
  10. I can tell you one thing Chef, I may be a novice in Tax law of the IRS, but I am really, really good at drinking Rum.... Thinking about trying to make my own Bourbon.. doesn't seem to hard, but I am sure I will make it difficult.. lol
  11. Why are you reading Salon... that is the big question here....
  12. I can't find definitively what is considering legal or illegal for tax evasion in off shore entities. Most of what I can find says it is illegal for us taxpayers to use off shore accounts to evade taxes (but I can't find an IRS statute, and who knows how trustworthy some sites are)- but it goes into establishing a foreign company and renoucing citizenship... I will do some more reasearch, but I am pretty sure I am correct on this one...
  13. Their probably worried the non-union guys will put up utlity poles way to fast... I am sure the Union has rules about only so many fixes in a work hour... lol Unions... to bad they have come to this..
  14. If you are stashing money to avoid US taxation, money that sould be taxed, I assume that is breaking US laws. I consider it to be different than taking money under the table... its tax evasion. I am not saying only the well-to-do engage in it, heck my friends have paid their Nanny 35,000 a year under the table for 6 years, and she gets section 8 housing, owns a car in their name, and gets Meidcare and Medicaid- and they complain about their chidl tax credit not being big enough...
  15. that won't happen until Americans spend. Americans will not spend while many of their homes still remain underwater, service school loans, pay off debt from the last boom cycle. There is simple no asset bubble on the horizon that will make this recovery speedy, imho... no amount of tax cut or stimulus spending is going cure the ills of the tired and beaten up consumer.... As I have stood by for many years, we are seeing the piper being paid by many a personal balance sheet... until people pay down their debt and feel whole again, the economy will putter along.
  16. I don't disagree, but those are the laws we live by... those can be corrected through the legislative process, they will not be solved by skirting the law.
  17. that still doesn't make it right or ethical. I pay taxes on all my income, both earned and unearned- I am sure most of that goes to other people who work less, or have not invested wisely, or program that I will not benefit from.... I take offense to the fact that some people hold themselves to a different standard....
  18. jobs added, and more people optimisic about finding a job... that is cautiously positive news
  19. Its hard to believe we have not heard one iota of anyting from or about George Bush in this election.... to think 1/2 of our politcial system cannot even cite 2000-2008 or the man who held that office is sad. I am not saying everything was Bush's fault as other contend, but it certainly does not set a good stage for Romney and what his leadership would look like.... I am also sad for a country where people live here and enjoy the fruits, but feel they are priviledged so they can hide money and play games... that doesn't seems patriotic to me, that sounds like low grade treason.
  20. Interested to know where you numbers come from... at 36,000 a year, I am better off banking the money and making a deal with the hospital which is ALWAYS better than tha contract rate anyway...
  21. $451.17 bi-weekly for employee and spouse- but we do get a credit towards to monthly nut, which covers much of it outside $100.00 bi-weekly.
  22. I don't necesarily want the ACA to stay in place, as it stands today- I want to be able to buy health insurance even if I have an pre-exisitng condition, and I don't even care if it was rated for risk. I would not vote for Romney, I don't particulary like him as a candidate, and he has been thin with details of what he plans to do.. but then again so is Obama. However, if Christie or a guy like John Thune was on the ticket and we have a truly market Healthcare system in place, I would consider voting for them- but I would like to see what a third party candidate could do, as I have said in others posts, not a lot of faith in the R and D's right now. I am not sure on the amount we would be paying with the ACA in place, but to me, it is better than no option at all. We could do thousand a month, perhaps more for the two of us and still be able to do what we want. My preference would be a CAT plan with a 5-10K deductible, and only have insurance for cancer, or Cardiac issues. Heck, I skipped right over the gay marriage issue... whose right is it to tell others what they can and can't do in the land of liberty?
  23. Did you read my original post? I said I didn't care for some of Romney's positions, but after I said I vote Dem for Healthcare, and Healthcare alone... I also stated I didn't particulary like that fact because the ACA is not great legislation... but it is much better than "sorry, **** out of luck"... And the party of Medicare Part D, Nation Building, NCLB and deficit spending is going to fix things all of the sudden? You guys are funny sometimes, refusing to concede the tenured GOP is just a ****ty as the Democrats at paring down the scope and resposniblities of the Federal Government- no matter who is elected, Government WILL grow... what will grow will be different, but it will get bigger because that what these parties do, and this is who the electorate elect. If I could buy health insurance without a job, I would vote Dem or R again anytime soon.....
  24. He has said he would support overturning Roe v Wade... that is in his own words.... if additonal conservatives justices are appointment to the SCOTUS, I don't think it is out of th question it could happen, do you? I am not going to advocate abortion, nor advoate taxpayers money for it, but I believe it is not my place to chose for others. As far the war on drugs Romney will have the same position as Obama.... I don't care for Obama position.. heck, there are btoh Dem and R's on the radio here in Colorado, together, trying to stop a movement to make MJ legal in the State.
  25. Many of the prediction models are showing a Electoral Victory for Obama... 538 is almost at an 80/20 for Obama, and has him winning/leaning to win in Ohio and Colorado. My guess, no news is good news... keep quiet, play the percentages, keep playing ground and pound getting voters out. 2 D-bags in my office are voluterring this weekend to get out and go door to door- they asked me if I was in, I said "not a chance"
