  1. According to the Buffalo News, which I know most of you have already read today: So giving Wilson and Levy a good answer to the question of who would run his offense in Buffalo was believed to be a key to his interview. His answer for Bills offensive coordinator could be 42-year-old Greg Olson, who worked with Jauron as a quarterbacks coach the past two years in Detroit and in 2003 in Chicago. What the hell. They will hire a guy to run our offense who supervised the quarterbacks (Joey Harrington, some other guys) for 3 consecutive losing seasons? And that was okay with Wilson and Levy. Figure that out, and get back to me, please. I'm going to go puke in my cornflakes.
  2. Having all the choices and interviews, including a guy who had his team in the Playoffs every year but one....vs. a guy who has had one winning season in the past decade....a guy who is touted for his defensive genius, yet his team finished 24th in the league in defense this past year.....a guy from a 5-11 team gets hired to fix the Bills? Now I feel comfortable in welcoming heaps of abuse from the league. We have hired a guy whose defense sucked for a 5-11 team. We might as well have hired Jerry Gray. Are you kidding me? Please, Marv. I believed in you, and now I think you fell down and hit your head on a rock during one of your 5 weekly 3 mile runs. We hired the oldest guy we could find, except Lou Saban. Wonderful.
  3. Under Jauron's wisdom, the Lions defense actually got WORSE this year, dropping from 20th to 24th overall. The team finished 5-11. How can that guy be counted on to do anything positive for us? I hate this hire.
  4. Jauron had a great year. 24th ranked defense....down from 20th ranked defense from the previous year. Solid defensive guy. Let's bring in a defensive guy, the guy who led the 5-11 Lions defense to the stellar 24th ranking in the league. Let's grab that guy. What about Sherman? His defense, despite the team stinking due to unbelievable injuries, ranked #4 in the league. I'm sick to my stomach. I can't stand this hire. Hate it.
  5. Jauron is an old fool. How does being in charge of Detroit's defense qualify him for anything? And how did they do with him at the helm? It's a foolish choice, and I'm thinking maybe I will just take my heart out of the program. I'm deflated, not happy. I'll probably get over it in a month or so. This is not good news.
  6. Mike Martz has made it abundantly clear he will not accept a coordinator position. He's too arrogant. He'll sit out for a while, and then end up coaching the Raiders. Did they hire anybody yet?
  7. Martz said that he and guys like Mike Sherman are tough to hire because of their salary levels. Patrick asked if the Saints told him he was too expensive, "That's what my agent says." He implied that Sherman won't be hired either.
  8. I knew I set myself up for some sarcasm, but the guy is a former bookie, a Packer fan by nature, a Bears fan by nurture, and a Bills fan by marriage. But he has a broad knowledge of sports. One thing he has adroitly pointed out about the Bills over the past few years is that the receivers rarely seem to be wide open. they always seem to be covered. You'd think somebody could coach an offense to get somebody open at some point.
  9. My brother in law is a real football fan from Wisconsin, and he says Sherman is a fantastic coach, and that the players absolutely loved playing for him. I don't know if you remember when he got up in Sapp's grille after a game for cheap shotting somebody. He took some heat for that, but his players loved it. He thinks Green Bay is making a huge mistake. He says Jauron may be a good coach, but the 13-3 record in Chicago was the biggest fluke in the history of football. I remember at least 3 of those games were absurd twists of fate, and Dave says the Bears could've just as easily have been 7-9 or worse. Which they were the year before and after. I say Bring on Sherman.
  10. They should've canned Mularkey last week along with the rest of Donahoe's crew. I think Ralph did well by waiting, he saved 3 million bucks by having MM resign. Time to move forward, we've got plenty of talent, a great guy in Marv, and solid position in the draft. Cap room, too. Hear hear.
  11. I can't believe the guy would quit because of the criticism. If he had any stones, you'd think he'd stay and get the job done. Unless there is some tampering going on somewhere, and he ends up on another team...his quitting just about bakes his future as a head coach. I cannot believe that Wilson and Levy would talk somebody into staying as coach of the Bills. You're either a Bill, or you're not. And I think about how this team folded late in games, and got rolled over by Oakland and others. You can't be a quitter and be part of this team. They say quitters never win. Well, they never lose either. They just quit. Maybe he's quitting because he cannot take the responsibility of another losing season. Maybe he realizes he cannot lead these men to victory.
  12. I live in St. Louis, and the playcalling got WORSE after Martz went in the hospital. The guy had Faulk, who can still somewhat bring it, and Stephen Jackson, a first round draft choice with tons of ability....and he still averaged 35 passes with 25 runs per game....with a rookie from Hahvahd and another 3rd stringer at QB. The only reason the Rams are allowing the interview is they are obligated to pay him for next year, whether they fire his ass or not.
  13. I believe Martz and Fairchild had a history.....Martz loaded up his staff with cronies like Larry Marmie, defensive coordinator, whose main accomplishment was leading his men out of the way of oncoming running backs and wideouts. Fairchild had some issues with the temporary coach, at one point nearly coming to fisticuffs. I would hope that the Bills pass on Fairchild. The Rams would be down by 3 and the Rookie From Harvard would be throwing passes all over the field. I think they can do better. Take the guy from New England.
  14. I'm glad the TD era is over, but I am sick of reading that drafting Mike Williams was one of Donahoe's biggest mistakes. Nobody said that at the time. At the time, he was all over ESPN, big Mike. great pick, yadda yadda. I personally was rooting to trade down because one guy cannot make that big a difference...the team needed more picks. but there was no trading partner, and Williams was hailed as a very good pick. Now, he has not lived up to expectations. That's on Mike Williams, not Donahoe. His big mistake was hiring GW.
  15. Why don't some of you relax. Marv is trying to put together a developmental squad. Remember when Marv had the team, only 1 or 2 new guys made the team every year, but he had to get to that point by building a roster.
  16. i hope that you meant this note as your "two cents," because postage went up that much today. I think the Seahawks will have all they can handle with the Skins, and they may lose. I believe that New England will beat Denver, and the Bears will beat the Panthers. I agree with you about the Colts. But it won't be easy.
  17. everybody seems to believe this debrickashaw guy has Boselli-like potential. And he's in great shape, and will get better. I'd trade down, if I could. Get an extra mid round pick or something. i hate the salaries they have to pay these top 10 picks. E.g., Mike Williams. Unproven....much better to pick later in the round. You get great athletes without the 12 million dollar bonus.
  18. You're right, I just looked it up. Maybe it was the Pope who was 80. Maybe it was my dad. Somebody was 80 and was doing something. I really admire 80 year old people who do things, that's what I'm trying to say.
  19. Just as a point....I really couldn't stand Reagan as President. I'll just leave it at that. My point is, he was the leader of the Free World at 80, and all we are asking at here is for Marv to lead the Buffalo Bills back to glory. Admittedly, this may be a bigger task.
  20. Just because 95% of people in this world don't take care of themselves enough to be mentally astute as octegenarians, why criticize a couple guys who have accomplished as much as Marv and Ralph? If I keep reading tasteless comments about liver spots and Simpson characters, I may no longer rely upon this board as a source for information, inspiration, and interest. Don't be dumb, don't be dirty. Words to live by.
  21. I couldn't read the whole thing, the guy is just a little out there. But Levy had a good run in KC in the late 70's. They had success. He then did a great job in Canada with the Montreal Alouettes. Levy is a good man, and he will do a fine job.
  22. I believe that Marv Levy at 80 is smarter than 90% of other football people, and knows more about football than approximatey 100% of the people who visit this board. I read his book, I've been a fan of the Bills since I was 7. I would say to give Marv the benefit of the doubt, except I have no doubt. He will succeed, in my opinion.
  23. Marv is in a great place. I trust him. He's in better shape than most Bills fans, and is a lot smarter. He's a natural born leader, and enough with the jokes about being old. If anybody posting here has any dignity whatsoever, you will respect Marv Levy for having the guts to come back to the game. He cannot possibly hurt this team. Ralph is 87, we pretty much accept his judgment, don't we?
  24. I don't hate Mularkey, I hate his playcalling....once he settles in and gets past the first drive, he calls plays like a friggin' 2nd grade girl. I hope Ralph has taken away his option to call plays. He needs to focus on overall supervision of the team, not play calling.
  25. He just can't call them during the game. I"ll bet part of the deal is that he has to relinquish the playcalling to the coordinator, the new guy. The Bills were great coming down the field the first time, then when MM had to think on his feet, he failed miserably. Too bad you can't script an entire game.
