  1. It's all subjective, isn't it? I thought Chris Rock was a fine host. Notice when he trashed actors, he turned it right around on himself. He's a funny man. They knew what they were getting. The thing I didn't like that much was the segment from the movie theatre, which basically showed that black people and white people are different. Who knew? I wish Robin Williams and Whoopie Goldberg would crawl into one of those cardboard boxes from Homeless Relief and stay there. I can't believe he did a Nicholson impression. I'm glad I have Tivo so I could blow through most of the BS. One day Martin Scorcese will win the best director award. He doesn't need one, it would be nice for them to give him one. Johnny Depp will win an award one day. he's great. I didn't get Sean Penn's defense of Jude Law. Why single out Jude Law among Rock's targets? Rock targeted himself.
  2. I see quite a few movies. I thought Sideways was great, and had given it a slight edge over The Aviator. Then I saw Million Dollar Baby. That movie is in a class by itself. It was stunning. One thing I find interesting is that nobody is giving away any of the plotlines of this movie. I remember 6th Sense ran sort of a campaign on keeping the secret. Million Dollar Baby does not have to run such a campaign. People just sort of keep their mouths shut till they find somebody who has seen the film, and then they talk about it. I did have a few issues with the movie, but overall I was blown away.
  3. No offense, fellas. But you could continue this discussion via personal message. For the record, I cried during Finding Neverland.
  4. Interesting dialog here. I was a big Hunter Thompson fan, and I think Johnny Depp was spot on in Fear and Loathing. He can't win this year, but eventually he'll put himself in a blockbuster and win. The big ripoff was 1969 when John Wayne won for True Grit over Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight for Midnight Cowboy. There have been many silly choices over the years, and I agree with the guy who posted about Shakespeare beating Saving Private Ryan. Absolutely absurd. I've seen most of the nominees this year. Till I saw Million Dollar Baby, I was all in favor of Sideways. Loved that. But Million Dollar Baby sort of took my breath away. It's just amazing. I agree that Giamatti should've been nominated. Depp was great in that movie, but the part wasn't big enough. Giamatti ruled that picture. Hilary Swank's problem is she doesn't look like an actress. She looks like a pretty girl. But she is just terrific, and she deserves to win. As an afterthought, and I know most people have already moved well beyond my post, I think Nicholson's best performance, by far, is in "The Last Detail."
  5. I was at the Miller Lite pregame Super Bowl party in Jacksonville. Hootie came out and played a set. It was like nobody was paying attention. They came out to no fanfare, and left quietly. But the big news is, somewhere in the second song, I swear I heard a FOURTH CHORD!!!
  6. last year he ran the 40 in, uh...July. I'm optimistic that the line will give JP lots of time to work his magic. He's got game.
  7. i happen to agree with most of you. but, still the guy won 2 league mvp's, and he was 5-3 with the giants, and they blow.
  8. I keep flashing back to Warner, just a few years ago, league MVP, unbelievable stats, great field vision, arm strength.....he thinks he's got a lot left. He is motivated, Drew has been motivated, but never really got r done. Any thoughts on such a nonsensical concept?
  9. I was wondering why Atlanta had the starters on the field and were running up the score against the Rams. It seemed pretty unsportsmanlike. It could be argued that the reason the Rams have done that in the past is that their d sucks so bad that nobody is ever out of any game against the Rams. The guy on the radio said that Mora is close friends with Bobby April, and he ran it up on the Rams because of Martz firing April last year. Martz hung April out to dry for the Rams sucky special teams, and April took the high road. He never mentioned that Martz doesn't give any priority to special teams. The Rams have the worst special teams I've ever seen. The radio guy reminded the listeners of Martz calling an onside kick against the Jets one afternoon when the Rams were ahead 31-7. I can't stand Martz. He's an egomaniac who doesn't know how to manage a football game, and he has conducted the worst drafts in the league.
  10. Man, I've never seen worse tackling in my life. Their special teams are like watching Trott Vocational v. Kenmore West in the early 70's. Martz is a bobo who hired his buddy to coach the defense. He also got rid of Bobby April because Bobby April couldn't coach special teams. Martz's drafts for the past few years have been show-off sessions, rather than team-building. It's absurd. But more absurd, perhaps, was watching the Falcons come down to score in the last couple minutes....with Vick, Dunn, et. al still on the field with a 23 point lead. Poor judgment by the coach, poor sportsmanship all around.
  11. Even though the Jets may contend that they played the game with the same intensity after hearing they'd made the playoffs....I don't buy it. It is my belief that if the Bills had beaten the Steelers, the Jets would've beaten the Rams...and we'd still be out. We'd feel better about the team, but we'd be out. And the Damn Rams wouldn't be in the playoffs. That is another thing that roots like a rabbit. The Bills stomped all over the Rams, the Rams stink, and they are in the playoffs. And I have to live in this town. The horror. The horror.
  12. Ah, but the Bills went the entire 70's without beating those Bastages!!! To make matters worse, to add to the humiliation, our very best player of that era turns out to be a knife-wielding spouse killer.
  13. Most of you are probably too young to remember this, but there was a game against Miami in the 70's...the Bills were in the middle of a furious comeback, had cut a 24-0 lead to 24-21, and had forced a Mercury Morris fumble. The DB had Morris upside down, and he dropped the ball before any part of his body hit the ground. The Bills recovered. But the refs called "down by contact," and gave Miami an additional 15 because Pat Toomay bumped the ref on his way to recovering the fumble. The place was in total uproar. I threw a shoe so hard it stuck in the wall of my dorm at Geneseo. The next play, Don Nottingham ran up the middle for about 60 to the Bills 1. The game was over. I thought about that after Lindell missed that field goal, that the defense was caught off guard, or was emotionally unfocused or something, and a rookie runs up the middle for 58. The guy had 102 yards on 14 carries, but take away the 58 and he had 44 on 13. Solid, but not Hall of Fame material. Although it would've helped had the Bills chosen to tackle him on occasion during that 9 minute drive.
  14. I thought it was a bogus call, Reed ran his route and there was a guy in his way, so they had a little contact. It may have been designed that way, much like a crossing pattern....contact is inevitable. It was an unnecessary call. I still think they should've gone for it on 4th and short near midfield with 11 minutes left. What's the worst that could happen? They fail, and the defense has to hold? Pittsburgh ran off 9 minutes to gain 48 yards. Absurd. I have a lot of respect for the Steelers and the way they played the game....to win. They are a better team, and we made enough mistakes to lose 3 games today.
  15. I think the game turned on that call on Josh Reed. I thought it was a bad call, he was running a route, and a defender was in his way. He nicked him, and the guy wouldn't have been in position to stop the first down anyway. But Lindell's miss was absurd. I know for a fact that there are 6th graders who can kick a 28 yarder. My nephew can. Had he made the kick, we would've been kicking off, and not on defense. That means that the 58 yard run would not have taken place. Something else would've happened, but I contend that our defense would've been standing taller with a 4 point lead. Another bad thing was not going for it on 4th and a few near midfield with a little over 11 minutes left. A bad punt and 2 plays later, the Steelers were right there anyway. They ran off over 9 minutes getting 48 yards. It was great offense by the Steelers.
  16. I am so proud of the Bills not bailing on the season. We have about 20-30 fans who show up every week in St. Louis and they put our game on the big screen. This is a great group of guys, very well-rounded. Young, old, white, black, asian, large, small, men, women, kids, it looks like America in there. Lots of high fives and stuff. Some guy came in yesterday who said he read about our group on the internet. He lit a ciggy and rooted for the boys. By the way, a 49er fan stopped by yesterday to congratulate our group. According to him, Mike Nularkey was the popular choice to coach the 9ers last year when they chose Erickson. I think Mike would've made a big difference out there. He's the right guy for our team.
  17. He was a slashing Pro Bowl Calibre running back as recently as last year. He ran around with cracked ribs, for crissake, and now he gets in for a play or two? Even if they were going to deal him for a draft choice, don't you think he has enough talent to add some diversity to this attack? And showcasing his talent would also add value...true? I think TH would rip through some of those holes that WM can't seem to penetrate. We should mix it up!!
  18. First of all, a lot of the coverage tonight rightly focused on Bobby April, who was run out of town by Mike Martz last year. I was actually laughing out loud when Clements returned that punt for a TD. April is a good coach. I was wondering why Mad Mike was wearing a suit. Did he stop by the Men's Wearhouse over the weekend? I've never seen that guy in a suit. The late news sports guys spent a lot of time talking about the alleged cheap shots by the Bills, as if that determined the outcome of the game. Moulds' shot to Fisher was cheap, nobody got hurt, he got penalized 15 yards, and the Rams scored on the next play. So? Martz was accusing the Bills of deliberately hurting his players. The Clements hit on Holt was cheap, no doubt. I still don't know what he was doing. But the injury to DeJuan Groce was caused by his own player blocking our guy (Tucker) into Groce's path. In fact, Tucker's back was to Groce, and Groce hit Tucker's helmet with his knee. From what I read here, Travis Fisher was hurt trying to chase down Moulds on the reverse. The announcers didn't notice any cheap shot. And their other guy, Garrett, was apparently knocked flat on Clements' punt return. Martz is a jerk. He can't figure out that Special Teams can determine the outcome of a game. He puts his weakest players on ST, and he only devotes a small portion of practice to ST. He spends most of the time on that brilliant offense of his. He's one of the only head coaches in the league who calls his own plays. He's an arrogant putz.
  19. I was digging thru some crap in my attic, and I found a tape entitled "Football Game 9/29/90". I had set my VCR and gone to the game v. Denver. That was one of the worst games I've ever attended....Bills losing 22-9 with about 11 minutes left, Denver lining up for a 26 yard field goal which probably would've clinched it. But Nate Odomes blocked the kick, Bennett recovered and ran it 80 yards for the TD. (I was in the other endzone, watching it thru binoculars, and noticed Bennett running my way, most peculiar) A couple plays later, Leonard Smith intercepted an Elway pass (deflected by Leon Seals) and ran it in. A couple plays later Elway fumbled at the 3, Kenneth Davis scored one play later. 74 seconds that shook our world that day.
  20. The umps suck. They just do. The 3rd strike on Edmonds on Saturday night was a half a foot off the plate. Same thing tonight with Walker, Edmonds, and Reggie Sanders. The third strike on Sanders in the ninth tonight....he checked the swing. I'm convinced now that if Fox doesn't show a replay, it was a bad call. Anyway, the reason the Sox are winning has more to do with the Cards giving them free passes over and over and over. You can't walk two guys to face any of these hitters. They've got serious lumber. Keep the bases clear, and you might have a chance. Another thing. Nobody is behind in a 7 game series till they lose one at home. The Cards haven't done that yet, neither has Boston, a 128 million dollar collection of loveable ragamuffins.
  21. One of the candidates could illustrate the potential horror of a nuclear weapon being in the wrong hands.....by saying something like this: on 9/11 the nation was attacked by hijacked jets, and nearly 4000 innocent people were killed. If a nuclear warhead were to hit New York, we could lose millions and millions of lives....it is absolutely imperative that we stop the spread of nuclear arms NOW. Kerry won the debate. Any Republican who says Bush won is lying. Any Republican who actually believes Bush won is delusional. But remember that Mondale kicked Reagan's ass in the first debate in 1984. Reagan buried him in the 2nd debate, and throttled him in the election. I think Bush will come out swinging in number two, especially in the town hall setting right here in St. Louis. Michael Moore is appearing on the same stage the night before, by the way. He called the University and booked it himself, at a substantially reduced fee.
  22. The Cards have a terrific lineup...Walker, Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds, Renteria, scary. They've got 5 gold glove winners in their defense. Their starters have been extremely solid all year, 4 15 game winners. Their middle relief has been sturdy. The closer, Isringhausen, is the guy who scares me the most, as a Cards fan...I don't trust him to get anybody out, ever. If they have a vulnerability, it is in the position of closer. However, with that lineup on offense, it's possible they won't need an effective closer to advance.
  23. First of all, I really don't appreciate your referring to me as "this guy." You don't know me. The fact that you remember me at all stuns me. That was, what, 4 years ago? As I recall, you told me you didn't need any money for those seats, and I told you I'd send you something anyway.....and never did. I'm sorry, it was preseason, and I just got lazy about it. People were handing out tickets in the parking lot like they were sample mustard packets, by the way. I know that doesn't change the fact that I didn't send you funds, but it's the truth. Send me your address again, you have a different screen name than you did back then, I think you lived in Chicago or something, and I'll send you some money. By the way, thanks for the sentiments, considering the nature of my trip...I don't care about the 20 bucks, or whatever I owe you for those tickets, when you said you didn't want any money anyway. I'm going to send you money, and I'd appreciate it if you point that out to the board when I do. Come to think of it, that was a pretty cheap shot. Send me your address and I'll send you money.
  24. Here goes the sympathy card. My parents both passed away within the last year and a half, and we have sold their house. My sisters and I are coming home to take care of a few things, and to spend the last night in the house. My sisters are leaving Sunday morning, I'm leaving Monday. I'm thinking, what better way to say farewell to WNY than spending the afternoon with a bunch of crazy Bills fans, cheering the team to victory over the dreaded Patriots? So, if any of you think you might have an extra seat, or would like to at least take my cell phone number in case somebody develops a case of tryptohistodykrophobophilia day of the event, please send me a message. Thanks too much.
  25. I was going to try and make that point today. The Jags are playing great ball, and their toughest game so far was probably the Bills game. We should've won that one, you guys know that all the planets were aligned against us in that game. The Raiders, I don't care what anybody says, are extremely tough this year, especially in that building. If not for a few jam jobs by the refs, we had that one too. Let us see what the future brings. We win this Sunday, it's a whole new world.
