Are College Offenses The Future of The NFL?
Cynical replied to john_bult's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Spread offenses in the NFL are not new. Option offenses in the NFL are not new. No huddles offense in the NFL are not new. Mobile QB's in the NFL are not new. There is nothing new in the "college spread" offense that is not already being used or incorporated to some extent in the NFL. Nothing. Rules will have a far bigger impact in determining if the NFL becomes a bigger, full size version of arena football. -

Apparently not. "City officials say the trestle can’t grow because of the train tracks above and utility lines below."

Which NCAA HC could succeed as an NFL HC?

Which NCAA HC could succeed as an NFL HC?

This. There have been many interviews where he has alluded or implied that very thing. The biggest example was Drew Brees. Saban wanted Brees for the QB position while at Miami. He was denied by the Dolphins medical staff. (think about that for minute. Brady and Brees in the AFC East for the past 10 years ) -

At the professional level, I can see that being the case. An expectation starts to set in. In the pros, great players stick around, and as long as the team can afford them, the great player is there for many years. So the team can remain great for years. In college, the great player leaves after 2-3 years. In some cases, they only started 1 year, because they sat on the bench behind an upper classman for 1-2 years. Throw in the fact that a coach at the college level is dealing with a completely different roster by their 5th year, each year is a different team. Based on that, each championship feels different. In the 3 NC that Saban has acquired at Alabama, my favorite without a doubt was the one vs LSU. The other 2 do not even come close.

http://www.chatsports.com/cleveland-browns/a/exclusive-browns-preparing-offer-urban-meyer-biggest-coaching-contract-nfl-history-24607 Some excerpts: "Following numerous conversations exclusive to Chat Sports over the last month with several of our most trusted sources, we have learned that the Cleveland Browns have plans to fire head coach Mike Pettine and offer Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer the largest coaching contract in NFL history. The contract would also likely include an option for a small equity ownership in the Browns' organization. The sources are close to Browns ownership and have ties to several Big Ten athletic departments." "Our sources tell us that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is leading the pursuit of Meyer, and that he is prepared to give Meyer full front-office control, including the future of GM Ray Farmer." Yea, I'm not buying it. Even if its true, Urban would be an idiot to walk into that dumpster fire.

IIRC, Smart interviewed for the Auburn HC vacancy after Chizik was fired. After the interview, Smart withdrew his interest in the position. So, the majority of Tidefans knew it was only a matter time before he left. Going to UGA is not surprising or shocking. After all, "Momma called."

So LSU decided to keep Les. Good for them. http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/lsu-football/analyzing-decision-to-keep-les-miles/ Sent from my XT1080 using Forum Fiend v1.3.1.

http://espn.go.com/ncf/story/_/id/14204487/good-possibility-lsu-tigers-buy-les-miles-contract-source I can see both sides of this. LSU wants National Championships, and Les hasn't delivered one in years. The "Tiggers" have now lost 3 straight. Les/LSU have lost to Saban/Bama 5 straight times with little perception that direction will change in the future. However: "He has a 110-32 record at LSU, and his .775 winning percentage is the best of any LSU coach -- including Nick Saban (.750) -- in the past century. Overall, Miles has a 60-27 record in SEC play." Hell, there are numerous college programs would sell their soul to experience that kind of success. LSU can probably get a better HC. But there is also a big possibility they can get a worse one.

Mizzu's Gary Pinkel is stepping down at the end of the season. http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/11/13/gary-pinkel-to-step-down-as-mizzous-hc-over-health-concerns/

Interesting. If the article I read was correct, that's a 2 game suspension according to tOSU policy. But JT has only been suspended for 1 game.

Breaking: More Trouble for Manziel - Alcohol Involved

His parents, especially his Dad, are part of the problem. Yep. When Johnny was still at aTm, JM went into a rage, and destroyed a set of golf clubs over a parking ticket he got while playing a round of golf. Daddy's response? They (the police I assume) are harassing him (JM). They know who's car that is. -

http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/south-carolina-football/steve-spurrier-said-tuesdays-retirement-press-conference/ “First of all, I’m resigning. I’m not retiring. Get that part straight. I doubt if I’ll never be a head coach again, maybe I’ll coach a high school team or something. So don’t say I’ve retired completely from coaching, who knows what will come in the future" Sounds like he has had enough, at least on this level. -
Wow, just wow. http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/arkansas-football/video-bret-bielema-flops-sideline-vs-alabama-personal-foul-called-tide-ol-result/ This is the type of move that just reeks of desperation. I am beginning to believe Bert's days are numbered in Fayetteville.
