  1. the thing is, a Magnum Opus is really dependent on the outcome, if you think about it If McDermott coaches the game of his life but the team loses, whereas in another season he makes a massive coaching blunder but is saved by the other team fumbling at a key moment, then the win will outshine the loss, regardless of the quality of the work.
  2. I asked this question to both of my cats. Both agreed that yes, we are. And before you cite their limited experience with other fanbases, the cats watch a lot of ball.
  3. if I was the HC some of you guys would fire me mid drive. My entire strategy would have been to get 2 1st downs, come hell or high water, and have the ball around the 7 or 8 1st down and goal. There would probably be about a minute on the clock. If KC had 1 timeout left by then, I would run on 1st down but instruct the RB to get as close as he can but not score. Then I would run the clock all the way down to 20 seconds or so. We still have out timeouts, so I take one here. Then, we take 2 end zone shots on 2nd and 3rd down from very close, where the whole playbook is open because we have a timeout still. If we score we're up 4 with less than 15 seconds left and KC has no timeouts. Worst case scenario we kick a FG from extra point distance with like 7 seconds left. It would be trading 1 down for 40 having 40 fewer seconds if we score to respond. It's the inverse of letting the other team score so you get the ball and have time to respond.
  4. plus 72 isn't what it used to be. But it's still 72.
  5. another special teams blunder that costs the team a win and McDermott will have to fire the DC this time around.
  6. IF Bill is done now. IF Reid coaches another 6 years until he is the age that Bill is now. THEN Reid will have a legitimate shot at being seen as the GOAT. Reid will almost certainly have more HC wins than Belichick (and maybe Shula), a better coaching tree (by far), won with 2 different teams, won 100+ games BEFORE ever getting his superstar QB, and have had more success in the modern era with modern players (no "game has passed him by" argument. Bill will have the rings (probably) over Reid. But the GOAT debate will be loud and contentious, whereas now it's a "slam dunk." But Reid could still have 5-6 more years to pad his legacy.
  7. Belichick can't even get a job. Wild! Probably because of his recent goofy staff/coordinator situations in NE.
  8. nah, we all (rightly) love Allen and many of the other players, and the team wins a lot of games. Once you get into the tournament crazy things can happen. The Bucs were right there with the Lions most of that game, as were the Packers with the 49ers. We were very close to a Packers/Bucs NFC title game. So insane stuff happens in a 1 off playoff game where one muffed punt, one timely fumble, one holding call, can make all the difference.
  9. Andy Reid is the true GOAT. As badly as Florio wants him to retire it aint happening. Think of it this way: Belichick is unemployed and basically nobody is interested but Atlanta. If Andy Reid and the Chiefs decided to "part ways" he would be the #1 sought after name out there. Why? Because he has won in 2 places and with multiple QBs. Belichick's success= Brady. It gets even better. If the hooded grump doesn't get a gig this cycle then Reid will almost certainly pass him in HC wins eventually. Reid is 6 years younger. The ONLY way Reid retires anytime soon is if he has some sort of health issue that we don't know about. Because if he retires and walks away from Mahomes he better hope he never gets that coaching itch again in a year or two.
  10. Bills home games are legendary across the league, especially playoffs. Kelce, an Eagles player, even wanted to get in on the fun. It's a truly unique atmosphere. Like a college game, many players have said that. Our problem was not that homefield advantage wasn't enough, our problem was facing the GOAT HC (I still say that and will continue to) and an all time great QB. We have another possible all-time great QB and a decent HC. That's the difference, not the weather, how loud people are, or anything else.
  11. the truth is that, whatever we or anyone else thinks, McDermott will be here for Allen's entire career. With Allen he will win a ton of games. Eventually he'll be the winningest coach in franchise history, regardless of any playoff success. Can't fire that guy. Remember the drought? That will always be the answer. So we must hope he either gets lucky (which could certainly happen) or finds the next Daboll but gets along with the guy.
  12. can we just cut him and then pay him a legal settlement of $5 instead so it doesn't count against the cap? Look, unfortunate accident for Hines, but it's not the team's fault and he never has been an impact RB in the league. Now he's 27 and recovering from a torn ACL, so next season will be his Von Miller season, making it 2025 before he has a real impact, if ever.
  13. sign Darnell Savage (S) from Green Bay if he gets to free agency. Up and down young player, but one thing McDermott does have a history of is getting the absolute most out of DBs He should be a moderate contract as well, so it could work. Poyer and Savage for 1 year?
  14. I would feel sort of sad walking around with an AFC EAST CHAMPIONS t-shirt but that's just me. It means exactly the same as the Bucs NFC South title this season.
  15. That's why I think it was the "secret story" referenced in the "fire McD" thread. Nothing else makes sense.
  16. We'll just have to hope Von Miller returns to being even a pretty good DE who can make a few plays. He did show some signs of life late in the season and in the playoffs, so there is some hope there. It just makes no sense to cut him. We'll be fine cap-wise. There's always moves to make.
  17. 6 total punts forced in the last 4 playoff losses COMBINED. 1 turnover TOTAL (this past game's goal line fumble). Zero sacks TOTAL. You mean to say for 4 years in a row when McDermott's defenses barely offered resistance once we got past the Wild Card round but it will somehow be different in year 5? His defenses have actually been remarkably consistent. Every playoff loss looks almost exactly the same. Zero pressure from the DL, zero turnovers, the other team moving the ball at will.
  18. For some reason this thread makes me picture Pegula sitting in his office all riled up, his nameless assistant standing behind him waiting for some sort of order... then suddenly Pegula picks up the phone like Mr. Potter in It's a Wonderful Life and yells "Get Tyler Dunne in here!"
  19. why are so many WR nuts? Is it something about the position?
  20. Brady could leave for an OC job I believe, if he wanted to.
  21. Sacked 4 times vs Bengals in the AFC Title Game (at home) also threw 2 INT Sacked 4 times vs Patriots in the AFC Title Game (at home) Sacked 3 times in the Super Bowl vs Tampa also threw 2 INT Our defense has played him 3 times now. 0 sacks. 0 INT. With all of the investment on the DL, that is flat out unacceptable. Actually, the defense played its best game against Mahomes and the Chiefs this time around, finally forcing a fumble and holding them under 30 points. It's hard, no doubt. The deep rounds of the playoffs are when you face the real teams that actually deserve to be there, not the Wild Card cannon fodder.
  22. IMO the "secret story" is Pegula has spoken to Belichick about his interest in coming here as HC. Obviously it couldn't come out unless it gets done, thus local guys are sitting on it and nobody wants the Dunne treatment because everyone involved would deny it anyway, you'd be ridiculed, and it might even make it not happen. It would be the last time you ever had any access to the team. But "Belichick and the Bills" has popped up in enough rumors the past few days that it makes me wonder. It fits the "bill" (no pun intended): 1. Only a few would know and it would be top, top secret because of the optics and PR (not sure there's any written rule that says you can't talk with a free agent coach while you have a coach, though. Doesn't have to be an "interview" just a conversation). 2. Would obviously be something that could not come out unless it gets done 3. IF it came out that Pegula was speaking to Belichick about coming here while McDermott was preparing for a playoff game, of course it would be a real negative for McDermott, to say the least. After the Dunne piece, this is the only potential McDermott story that would be the end for him here, given that I can't see him having done anything wrong/bad/immoral and he's already been accused of pretty much everything possible in the "he said, she said" category by Tyler Dunne. I think it's that: Pegula spoke to Belichick about coming here, and there are obviously some people who know about it. Reporters aren't going to publish that with their name on it, and sources would out themselves by discussing it. So you get Florio being cute about "a team without a current opening" being a suitor for Belichick, and today's "Would the Bills consider a coaching change?" article. Rex Ryan saying "he wouldn't be shocked" to see the Bills hire BB. I would. I'll say that. Be shocked I mean. So that's just odd.
  23. I agree 100%. Also, I can't wait until "Mahomes is the GOAT" is the unquestionable line and if you bring up Brady you'll get shouted down. I'll actually enjoy that I think.
  24. That's the thing... KC will 100% load up on offense this offseason. This was their "down year."
  25. on WGR this morning they read this incredible stat: in the 4 most recent playoff losses (KC,KC,CIN,KC) McDermott's defenses forced a TOTAL of 6 punts in 4 games, with 1 total turnover forced (the goal line fumble this weekend) and zero sacks or INT. That's a pattern, not "well, injuries..." How will it be different next time around? That's the real question. What evidence is there? To even get to, let alone win, a Super Bowl you are going to have to beat the top QBs and coaches. This isn't Brady's AFC where he had 2 games to win against the Titans and Jaguars to get there.
