just awesome! Marv is sharp as ever and seems to be living his best life. He's ready for the SB winning party too!
-
he's back! I do love #97! Line him up next to Walker and let's roll
-
In other words, we're a few weeks away from him signing with Dallas and hearing about how Dallas is home, Cowboys are where he always wanted to be, etc.

I was kind of shocked they didn't draft Cooper DeJean He seemed like a McDermott type player through and through.

McDermott - "Still looking for that other safety"
TheFunPolice replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
I wish someone in the media would ask coach McDermott whether preseason really matters anyway (worded better than that, but that gist). NFL coaches obsess over every detail of every day, so the idea that all the practices, all the film sessions, and the games where young guys trying to make the team have the chance to step up "doesn't matter because it's preseason" would probably send him on a rant/tirade. It matters where you park your car. How you walk into the facility. The temperature of the coffee at 4AM when you show up. The song you listen to on the way in to work. The number of leaves in the lettuce in your salad. And so on.... I wouldn't be shocked if an NFL HC counted the number of ice cubes in the ice bath for optimal efficiency. -
McDermott - "Still looking for that other safety"

I really wish this was like Madden where there's a bunch of 82-84 OVR DBs always ready to sign... it always felt like cheating but hey -
Wow! I had this memory in my head of him being amazing in the playoffs. I guess it was based on the KC game. Wow! I had this memory in my head of him being amazing in the playoffs. I guess it was based on the KC game.

Gabe is what we all want: another guy who shows up for the playoffs. It's like he has a superpower where he becomes unstoppable, but only in January (and hopefully February too).

McDermott - "Still looking for that other safety"

I read on here that preseason doesn't matter, so someone ought to clue coach McDermott in on that ASAP before he makes an emotional roster decision. -
I cannot stand Lafleur or his ridiculous dodgeball team.

Does there need to be a rethinking of the basic D?
TheFunPolice replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I get that they aren't scheming up exotic gameplans, but guys are just getting beat out there, and that's the main issue. We don't really care, and Bosa (big yawn on the sidelines which we can all relate to) doesn't care but the guys on the field are getting to live the dream and are trying to make every rep count to build their career as NFL players. You drop a ball as a WR it might be the only opportunity you get that game for a number of reasons totally unrelated to dropping the ball. Maybe you get subbed out. Maybe you were only going to get a few drives and the ball only came your way once. And you dropped it. You don't think that matters to that player? Just listen to McDermott after the game. He was disappointed and expected more from the guys out there, even hinting that they might have to see who is out there to sign. -

I get "it's preseason" but I also think some on here underestimate how competitive these guys are. They fight at training camp practices because tempers run hot. They want to crush each other at Fortnite, table tennis, basketball, golf, checkers... These high profile athletes (backups or not) are simply not wired to suit up, go onto the football field in front of thousands of people plus those watching on TV and allow themselves to be embarrassed, pushed around, and pancaked "because it's just preseason" and "we're just backups anyway." A lot of these guys are trying to make the team, trying to put good things on film in case they are cut loose in a couple weeks. This is their career. If players don't screw around and dog it because "it's just practice" then why would they do so in a game? So I think there are concerns, such as getting little pressure from the DL. This is a continuing theme. So is the coverage. With Allen we can score enough points and put enough pressure on the other team that we win games. But what we saw is more of the same. None of this means the team won't look much different in the regular season, obviously. But you'd like to see some signs of life from the DL especially. Or WRs not dropping passes. Or DBs not getting abused out there. -

This game is practice so they do care. There's a reason these guys are 2nd and 3rd teamers -
The first one is the hardest especially for a Bills team with all the history of their own plus the 4 SB losses, etc Once they get one I think they'll get 1-2 more. Maybe Allen goes 2-1 in Super Bowls by the end In that scenario it's a bummer not to go 3-0 but having 1 or maybe 2 in the bank changes it dramatically.
-
We'll get there and win. This QB and this team is way too good not to. If The Bengals OL could have held up for another second in their SB Burrow Zach Taylor and freaking Mike Brown would have SB rings because the WR was wide open for a game winning TD

awesome news! They paid the man! -
Hard to say... I would imagine it would be tough for him, but then again, if he DID go the CEO route he could go down as one of the all time greats if he gets Allen's entire career plus a few years after. It could be sold to him, I think. Many legendary coaches aren't thought of by many as being from one side of the ball. John Madden: he was just a football coach. Vince Lombardi: also a football coach That's a high bar, but say he goes CEO route here, hire a Fangio type whose defense works in big moments in today's game, and wins 2-3 Super Bowls and coaches here for 20 years. His name would be up there with those guys when it's all said and done. And people will remember most the flashy QB, big games, and say McDermott was just a great football coach.
-
agreed 100%! This is why, if things don't go well for the defense yet again when it matters, I am in favor of McDermott transitioning to CEO type of HC and going and getting the best DC there is and letting that guy run his system here, just like Brady does on offense. That way you get all of the best of McDermott while the defensive system hopefully gets upgraded to something that can stop the top offenses using as much of the current talent as possible. Pete Carroll's background is defense but he isn't really thought of by many as a "defensive HC." Who ever talks about "Pete Carroll's defenses"? Build a great team and let McDermott lead it. But let the coordinators do the Xs and Os and build their own schemes.
-
McDermott could also completely hand over the defense to one of the top available former defensive head coaches and carry on as the leader of the team. He doesn't coach special teams, why does he need to coach defense? Be the younger Pete Carroll, who I bet 90% of NFL fans don't see as a "defensive HC" or "offensive HC" just a HC. Great leader, sets the tone, etc.
-
If the Bills lose in the playoffs again, regardless who the team is, and especially if the defense disappoints yet again, this will be the national conversation like it or not. Allen is a superstar and the Bills are currently a team in the spotlight. All the national media will be saying "not even 1 SB appearance with Josh Allen at QB?" Allen has been one of the best QBs in recent playoff history, yet zero SB appearances. It isn't the same with the Ravens. Lamar's play has dipped significantly in the playoffs, so you can't just blame the coach. Here we have Allen elevating his game in the biggest moments, yet the coaching and defense do not step up. That's an issue. At some point, what is the value of a defensive HC whose defense always lets the team down in the playoffs? That will 100% be the discussion. Hopefully, it's all moot and we get to and win the SB!

if anyone tanks for Arch Manning could it please be an NFC team getting a good QB for once? -
3 years, 35 million, 25 guaranteed. A bit over Williams deal in all key areas. Cook will be 29 at the end of the deal and maybe can get 1 more.

It was a direct shot across the bow at Burrow based on the Netflix Quarterback series. Next episode I expect Josh to take the OL to the Strong Museum after practice and go through the different types of fossils and then an astronomy lesson at the planetarium. I am just kidding, but it's what I thought of! It makes sense if you watched Burrow on Quarterback on Netflix. Always yapping about dinosaurs and fossils and other random science stuff. Now that I'm saying all that I wouldn't be shocked if it was some kind of inside joke based on Burrow in the Netflix show. Sort of like a friendly jab that the players would get but most would miss.
