Eh - they bend the rules a bit and probably get OPI called on them more than most. It's a bang-bang play though so its really tough to throw the flag when you have to identify if he was blocking before the ball is out, and is he within the LOS... etc. Sort of like seattle and their constant holding - they aren't going to call it every play... so do it often and make it a physical game. I don't mind zone coverage - but you need to have really athletic LBs, and a SS who can lay some wood. You're secondary also have to be excellent at tackling. Seattle plays mostly zone and they're right up in your face a good % of the time as well. We have the d-line to create some issues up front (assuming theyre in shape and you know... care)

That's all well and good - But we don't have a top 5 QB. So you still want to throw 40 times a game?

I think this actually hamstrung us even more. Rex emphasizes both of these things. Stopping the pass is the most important attribute for a team that doesn't have a top 5 QB... because you're at least making it difficult for a top 5 QB. Even if we add a new QB who can help us pass more effectively (say in the draft)- we won't have a top 10 QB for the foreseeable future. That's why you have running teams... because you don't have the QB to run a Brady/Ryan/Rodgers type of offense. Dallas had a rookie QB and ended up the #1 seed because they built their team to be a running team. But If you're going to be a running team - you had better make it hard for a guy like Brady or Ryan to carve you up.

This makes no sense... I thought the reason we move on from Tyrod is because he's not a franchise QB, and were trying to build for sustained success. Your reason for not bringing him in is because you want to bring in a 40 something year old QB who's apparently flamed out with his team? I'm cool with moving on if you want to get younger or something, but I'm not for cutting him because we "might" get someone in 2018... Without knowing who's available, or why... or whether they'd come here. Keep him or cut him, but just have a PLAN.

Yeah - i think we still wanted to keep him. After we lost him it was a tad ridiculous that we didn't make a play for anyone though. Especially in the draft in May. We draft a redshirted guy with an injury.

Not true - we had Mario's dead cap, Glenn's Franchise tag, and Gilmore's 5th year, oh and Richie's contract too. Until Glenn signed an extension we had very limited cap space to do anything. We non-tendered Rambo and Charles. We didn't put a 2nd round tender on him because we wanted to have you know... a little bit of room to dumpster dive and actually fill out our roster.

We couldn't retain him. The offer sheet was unmatchable with our cap situation. We also didn't put a 2nd round tender on him for the same reason. We wouldn't have been able to keep mills or bryant.

one of his TD catches they like... forgot to cover him... Steelers didn't come to play at all. And big ben looked really sloppy - skipping balls to receivers, nothing coming in clean. Even some of their good gains were on ankle high bad passes that the receivers snagged.

I still don't really get this argument. We tried to keep him... We couldn't afford to tender him at 2nd round because we didn't have the Cap Space (glenn was franchised at the time we tendered RFAs, and Gilmore was on his 5th year - both big cap hits) at the time. We also therefore could not match his offer sheet for the same reasons. You guys act like we straight up cut the guy or something.... We did straight up release stefan charles, and bacarri rambo though - two guys who i thought were nice depth pieces.

So we're the linebackers and pass rush though... we knew we were gonna be a running team.

PA in shotgun never works as well - the running back is always eyes up on pass protection so the connection doesn't always happen.

No i think Greg roman prefer's shotgun - he ran mostly shotgun at SF as well.

I dunno about that- i'd say maybe closer to a bortles draft than an EJ. There's no "cant miss" guys like winston/mariota/luck/RG3 - but the class is relatively deep and talented. The top 2 guys from last year wouldn't stand head and shoulders above this class either.

I tend to agree here - if you miss on "your QB" then take another shot next year - but pick guys that you like, and roll with it. It's not an EJ draft, and it doesn't seem to have a Luck either. Do your homework on all of them, and get your guy! There's always next year!
